Money and calories

There’s a parallel between checking accounts and exercise, I’ve always thought. You bank your money the same way you bank calories, and you spend money the same way you burn calories through exercise. My colleague Kara McGuire, a personal finance writer who understands pretty well how that all works,  now tells me on her blog Ka-Blog! that there is a new economic theory around weight loss.   It’s all about incentives, they say. So she’s going to put it to the test.  She’s promised to give away $240 if she does not stick to her exercise program for three months. And you can sign up as a beneficiary of her failure, if you like. (Read her blog for instructions.)

Now, if only someone would pay us to exercise….  Â
