The Twins announced this morning that rookie lefthander Glen Perkins has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a mild muscle strain in the back of his left shoulder.
They purchased the contract of lefthander Carmen Cali, adding him to the 40-man roster, and he will join the Twins in Texas tonight. Cali has posted a 2.70 ERA in 12 appearances for Class AAA Rochester this season. He pitched 3 2/3 innings on Monday, so he probably won’t be available to pitch tonight, as the Twins send Johan Santana to the mound against the Rangers.
Perkins is scheduled to travel to Minnesota with the team after Wednesday afternoon’s game. He’ll likely have an MRI exam on Thursday and be examined by Twins team physician Dr. Dan Buss. A Rangers team physician, Dr. Keith Meister, examined Perkins following Tuesday’s game and suggested it was a strain of the teres major muscle with a likely recovery period of two weeks. The Twins will know more after viewing the MRI results Thursday.
