Trade time: Give us your best proposal

Let_sMakeDeal.jpgOK, your turn again. We’re hearing Tampa Bay infielder Ty Wigginton is among those the Twins could target in a potential trade in coming weeks. The draft is over, so Terry Ryan and fellow GMs can focus more on making moves that will bolster their teams.

Get creative. Think these things through. We checked on Dmitri Young, for example, and the Twins aren’t interested. Too much baggage, if you’ll remember the way the Tigers dumped him last year.

There have been some doozies proposed in the comments section. Ryan Zimmerman for three spare parts? Dream on. Zimmerman is considered a franchise cornerstone for Washington. Think of the parts teams typically move before the July 31 trade deadline. And since this is about the Twins, think seriously about money. Melvin Mora, for example, might benefit from a change of scenery and regain his All-Star form at third base for the Twins. But he’s under contract for about $9 million in 2008 and 2009. In other words, no chance.

Carl Crawford? Wouldn’t that be something? Again, we’re not seeing it. Tampa Bay would probably demand a major league ready starter for Wigginton and probably three studs for Crawford, who could also be considered a franchise cornerstone.

So give us your best proposal. You’ll get bonus points if you research the financial implications and, more importantly, look into your crystal ball to determine how such trade affects the future. Remember, the Twins refused to trade Francisco Liriano for Alfonso Soriano in 2005, then refused to part with Matt Garza for Soriano in 2006. We’re handing you the keys to the franchise, so you better take care of it. But go ahead, now, trade to your hearts content.
