Justin Morneau left Friday’s Twins game after colliding with Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo in the eighth inning. Morneau appeared to catch his sternum on Olivo’s left shoulder and the impact stopped Morneau to a halt. The ball scooted past Olivo, and Morneau was able to touch home plate for a run, but he stayed hunched over as Manager Ron Gardenhire came to check on him.

Luis Rodriguez took Morneau’s place at first base for the bottom of the eighth. Updates to come.

UPDATE: Morneau was taken to a hospital for X-rays and scans on his chest. The game just ended with a 5-4 Florida victory. I’ll head down to get the news and get updates here ASAP.

Pregame: Dontrelle Willis will not face the Twins on Sunday. He’s throwing, but the team pushed back his start because of a forearm strain. Byung-Hyun Kim is expected to take his place.
