The good: Julio DePaula pitched two innings of scoreless relief. That’s his fourth consecutive scoreless appearance since being recalled from Class AAA Rochester, and he’s lowered his ERA from 31.50 to 7.56. … Torii Hunter also connected for his 27th home run.

The bad: Kyle Davies held the Twins to three runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings. Since being traded from Atlanta to Kansas City, Davies is 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA (corrected) against the Twins and 0-3 with a 9.72 ERA in his other starts. After the game, the Royals actually sent Davies to Class AAA Omaha to make room on the roster for Mike Sweeney. Now, that is a slap in the face.
The ugly: Matt Garza took the loss after giving up eight runs (four earned) on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. He didn’t pitch particularly well, and his fielding was worse. Alexi Casilla had to make a diving stop to prevent one error, and Garza’s wild throw to third base on Joey Gathright’s bunt broke open the game. … Hunter and Brian Buscher also committed errors for the Twins.
