Twins manager Ron Gardenhire made it official following today’s 8-7 loss, saying Joe Mauer would return to the lineup and catch Johan Santana for Sunday’s series finale. Mauer has not started since Aug. 25 because of a strained left hamstring.

Jose Morales, who went 3-for-3 today in his major league debut, has a sprained left ankle and will probably miss 2-3 weeks, Gardenhire said.

“We know [Mauer's] not totally healthy, but he’s feeling pretty good,” Gardenhire said. “So you gain one [catcher] and you lose one, I guess. A not-so-healthy one, and you lose a healthy one.”
