No word yet this morning on whether the Mets have reached agreement with Johan Santana, but the signals from New York papers suggest a deal will be reached before today’s 4 p.m. (Central) deadline.

The New York Times had a Mets club official acknowledge that a six-year extension was a reasonable possibility with the final price tag reaching $150 million. And, from the New York Post:

A major league official who had talked to a person involved in the negotiations said he fully expects the deal to be completed. The Mets have not wanted to go further than a five-year extension for Santana, but according to the official, the parties are haggling over whether the extension’s sixth year is either guaranteed or an option that could be triggered by reaching an innings level. The official also said the contract will average at least $21 million annually.

“Santana’s people seem determined to get the total over $150 million,” the person said.
