Much Much Much better lineup. I like Harris in #2, I like Tolbert playing for Everett and I like Monroe as DH
I like this lineup.
that Tolbert I tell ya.
I was wishing it was Punto.
But I always do, I’m going to go sulk in my corner of angst.
This is the lineup I would like to see. Now lets see if Tolbret and Lamb can hold down the Left side. I have my douts.
Karlee,
Now, don’t be sulking, Nicky will be back. His swing is looking better.
Let’s go get ‘em. I like the lineup. It will be interesting to see who Gardy runs out there in the 7th and 8th innings tonight if Baker is out and we have the lead.
like this lineup till Cuddyer comes back
Great lineup i heard an update on the examination of Everett’s arm they revealed that it was actually linguini. I hope Monroe will take advantage of this opportunity.
I am predicting that Monroe swings for the fences every at bat and in the 8th hits one out.
If Everett goes on the DL, who gets called up?
Span will return to the lineup against right hand pitchers. Monroe back to the bench.
Bushman as Gardy would say
the old craig was much more fun
Craig, I need to be held *weeps*
I mean I love Tolbert, he’s fancy.
But I miss good ol scrappy Punto with his hustle hustle hustle.
fyi: Neil Diamond is comming here on tour!
ps: I hate Neil Diamond.
“If Everett goes on the DL, who gets called up?”
Maybe Brian Buscher .405 - .605 - .342. - 38 AB
Now THAT is a winning lineup! I like it, it should be the everyday BO until Cuddy gets back.
Why isn’t Punto playing he had the hardest hit ball of the season last night nearly won the game if the lF’r wasn’t so lucky.
I feel like this should be a 1940’s game Tigers vs. Senetors with a guy named Clete in the lineup.
If Everett goes on the DL before Cuddy gets back I would think either Casilla or Buscher. Then when Cuddy returns early next week Span would maybe be sent down, or the guy they called up if they want 6 OF and just 5 IFers. Or maybe a suprise and Gomez is sent down.
Sorry for all the random thoughts
There, there, Karlee. Don’t cry anymore. Nicky will be back in there. I promise you. The swing is looking good.
I hate Neil Diamond, also.
CRAIG.
Do not say “who must not be named” real name more than three times.
*HINT* it sounds like Busch.
And do NOT water him or feed him after midnight ![]()
trade redmond to the yankees for gonzalez solve the yamkees catching problem and solve our ss problem. put everett on the dl bring up morales.
I heard on the radio they got the X-Ray back on Everett’s shoulder and it said; A one legged man has a better chance of winning a ass kicking contest than Everett does of starting at SS for the twins again.
Shoulder examined? On the day after he commits a HUGE throwing error? Anyone else find that ironic, if not humorous (and spare me the hate emails about making light of an injury–no one wants to see anyone get hurt, of course)
oh no, not the Jose Morales craze again
Casilla has looked like crap, He has had 4 errors and is batting like .130. I would call up plouffe and see what he really has.
Interesting decision to have Kubel in RF and Monroe DHing, instead of the opposite.
Career Range Factor at RF:
Craig Monroe: 1.82,
Jason Kubel: 1.00
plus Monroe knows the park…
Maybe Everett can dh!
Monroe in the starting lineup is the ultimate consolation prize….he should’ve been given the chance for some payback last night when it counted…let’s hope he doesn’t hold a grudge and shift the focus from getting back at the Tigers to getting back at Gardy!
Karlee,
Okay. I won’t mention that name again.
That play Nick made at third, on the highlight reel. Who else could do that? No one. What game was that again? Nick alone, is worth the price of admission.
Jason — if Monroe has that little professionalism, he should be released immediately!
Pitching duel?
From the current Tiger’s lineup only Ordonez (1.121) has a career OPS higher than .788 against Baker, and as far as the Twins go, only Harris (1.500) surpasses that mark against Robertson…
Neil Diamonds 60’s stuff was pretty good. Give it a try.
If we lose tonight, it is all on you bloggers. When Monroe K’s 3 times and Tolbert throws wide of first, you’ll come crawling back to me to ask how to fix it.
(The answer is Nicky)
But, you’ll have to beg.
craig after being span’s champion last winter what do you think of him now?
The only time I will beg for Punto is to be released
amen, twinlves…
[…] Around the Majors created an interesting post today on Everett to have shoulder examinedHere’s a short outline […]
You could can tell that Everett’s shoulder is not right, he threw that like his shoulder is in pieces, for a guy that is suppose to have a pretty decent arm to put hardly anything on it and have it 6 feet short isn’t a good sign…… I don’t know I would think Buscher because he is hitting best but I also look at it and say I think we need a SS kinda guy, maybe the guy we got from the Rockies but he hasn’t hit well yet either……
gobbledy,
Span is an even better player than I thought. He has loads of talent.
Joe,
Macri has been awful on the field this year. He committed 4 errors so far. Now the team has 2 utility infielders (Tolbert and Punto) which is a mistake. If Everett goes to the DL, a bat should be brought up. Take your pick: Buscher/Knott/Jones/Ruiz
Joe I have an idea as to who can play ss.
His first and last name start with the same letter. I’ll give you a hint “n”
Pretty funny how Span got his first HR wasn’t it? We had a good laugh and hug in the dugout last night with that.
what’s joe got to do with starting ss. that’s my job.
Nick Nunto?
Nerek Neter?
Interesting decision to have Kubel in RF and Monroe DHing, instead of the opposite.
Career Range Factor at RF:
Craig Monroe: 1.82,
Jason Kubel: 1.00
Kubel has all of 100 career innings in right, nowhere near enough to draw any conclusion of any kind. Monroe’s lack of arm is also significant.
C’mon Karlee, tell us who it is.
Is it Nunto, Neter, or someone else?
snepp,
You are really going highbrow on this discussion.
Are you sure intelligent life can be found on this blog?
I live in NY, i hate how much they fawn over Nerek Neter
It’s Nick Ninja.
Idiots.
Haha.
Oh!!! Nick Ninja! Of course. Why didn’t I think of that?
Karlee,
What happened to the poetic writing style?
I miss that.
Think Santana is having any second thoughts about how wonderful it would be to flee the nice MN fans and play in NY? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/15/sports/baseball/15mets.html
substitute Cuddy in there, and this is the lineup I want to see on the field… we just switch up Kubel, and Monroe, and we never see Span or Punto again!
Santana has $130-some million dollars in the bank… his great great grandchildren (and then some) are set… methinks no second thoughts
methinks santana’s great-great grandchildren would have been pretty well set with $85 million in the bank, too.
Santana’s making too much to care. Of course I could be wrong, like Daryl Strawberry when he played for the Isotopes.
Johan loves Minnesota. He wanted to stay, but he couldn’t accept Carl’s, half pay offer.
I know what this team needs, another “clubhouse guy” who cant play a lick of baseball. Kind of like Denny Hocking. I wonder what he is up to these days? I hope that finger healed fine after getting it stepped on, celebrating at the bottom of the pile.
What’s it going to take to get Mauer out of the 3 spot? Name it, Gardy… a new bowling ball, a new windbreaker, a new bullpen, an actual Latin-American scouting department, the God-given acumen to know better than to march Guerrier out for a third straight inning? Just name your price, Gardenhire.
I wouldn’t be surprised if throw last night was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Everett.
If it is, that’s too bad. You hate to see a guy’s career end because of injury.
But, for the record, I do like this lineup tonight. I also would not mind giving Ploufe (spelling?) a chance at the big leagues.
How I wrote all haiku like.
You miss it.
Ahhhh yes, indeed.
Breezy, outside. Wind whirling.
Wooosh wooosh.
Johanna Montana.
What’s it going to take to get Mauer out of the 3 spot?
Cuddy being healthy again. Pay attention and maybe you’ll be able to catch up with the rest of us.
Neshek can’t pitch in the cold. Maybe Guerrier too.
Okay, tonight……….
Wonder if Gomez swings at the first pitch if it’s down the middle instead of bunting.
How about this idea — Give Monroe some considerable time w/ Cuddy down, which would hopefully get him on track. Then, since we currently have too many outfielders, trade him w/ maybe a person like Redmond, for an infield prospect? Or, trade Span and Redmond for an infield prospect.
In any event, this organization needs to do something to get more talent in the infield. Hopefully they can swing something.
I kind of like, don’t want to watch the game.
I still feel nauseous from last night.
Blech.
At least Monroe is playing now
/sarcasm
Slowey is the only guy in the dugout with a stocking cap on.
Blackburn pitched 5 shutout innings last night.
Whoo HOO. NO BUNTS TONIGHT!!
ground rule double hello.
Wow, that looked like a HR for a second.
Snap.
I think that’s one of the few times you look at a GRD and think “Aw heck that’s lucky for Detroit…” ![]()
Nice double and SB by Gomez!
Hahaha, Carlos likes to steal things.
especially my heart.
*pitter patter*
hahahaha, wow I’m so kidding.
T…
Get a job and maybe you won’t have to sit around collecting welfare checks and spending 24/7 on a Twins blog, you lil’ piece of white-trash.
BTW, what’s “flargle blarg”?
Whoo HOO? AHHHHOOO!!!
Scott, are you there in China tonight?
Gomez leads off with a 2B and steal 3rd. Harris walks.
Im calling double play for Mauer.
Since ya know, he LOVES doing that now.
Get a job and maybe you won’t have to sit around collecting welfare checks and spending 24/7 on a Twins blog, you lil’ piece of white-trash.
Boy, you know just as much about me as you know about baseball.
MAUER BEATS THE RELAY?
WHAT.
No double play? YEAH.
Now you know how to hustle, baby jesus hates being dubbed the double play guy.
Glad you were wrong Karlee.
M&M are fuds….
Half right Karlee. If you don’t mind, could you try calling a 1 run double by Morneau ![]()
Nah, that didn’t work T.
She was an inch o being right, Shaun.
Is that an old song or something?
Yes, I agree that T needs something in his life more than his crappy baseball team. Every day (and night!) he’s on here blowing the sh$t like he knows the difference between a baseball and a muskmelon when it’s obvious to everyone that he’s never even played the game. Riddle me this Obi Wan T (since you are the Burning Bush of baseball knowledge that the rest of us only wish that we could be): if a baserunner leaves third-base too early when tagging up to go home on a sac-fly, what’s the proper protocol for the pitching team to record the out? Hint: it’s NOT chase him into the dugout. If it takes you more than twenty seconds to come up with that answer, do the rest of us a favor and shut the hell up for now on.
Mauer put the ball in play, and a run scored. Better than a K.
If it takes you more than twenty seconds to come up with that answer, do the rest of us a favor and shut the hell up for now on.
Does the 20 seconds start before or after I stop caring what you have to say?
T,
Just gotta ignore those types-either their mom didn’t love them enough or their dad loved them TOO much.
Mauer almost looked like he got crossed up on the first pitch. I thought it was a strike, but Mauer caught it so badly the ump didn’t have a chance.
Is Mauer still tired?
If Cuddy is what it takes to get Mauer out from batting three then this team is in big trouble!
young should have been put in the 3rd slot and mauer way lower anywhere in the lineup…..as much success as robertson has had, you would think gardy would try and get as much out of the righties as he can….but as much of a gardy backer i have been, i am beginning to ? some of his choices…probably should have even put puntos rt handed bat in rather than lamb , but we will see…..
So you don’t know then, Gammons?
Santana’s successor doin’ his Santana-ism.
Just gotta ignore those types…
Well, Shaun…he’s almost right. T as he exists is actually a combined posting persona created by a combination of the Twins front office, Gardenhire, and Nick Punto.
Our job is to spread goodwill, merriment, and cute wittle puppies around baseball blogs across the world.
…We are T-gion.
That wasnt a bad pitch it was just left over the plate a little too much but it was down.
“Is Mauer still tired?”
From what? Watching the third strike down the middle of the plate all the time?
“Well, Shaun…he’s almost right. T as he exists is actually a combined posting persona created by a combination of the Twins front office, Gardenhire, and Nick Punto.”
You forget Sid Hartman and Dick Bremer.
…Still waiting for the answer, Sparky.
You forget Sid Hartman and Dick Bremer.
T-gion acknowledges the contibutions of Mr.’s Hartman and Bremer. Soon we shall overcome that which they call “Reusse”
OK, I have a stupid favor to ask. I work the afternoon shift in central Wisconsin(No Twins on radio or TV here). Plus work has a surf control from hell. I can go to this website because it is a newspaper but it won’t even display the scoreboard part of the sports page.
Would someone out there mind just posting the score and inning for me every once in a while?
I try to figure out whats going on from reading other posts but sometimes it is hard.
Thanks in advance.
That would be a good job for all those T guys, zwiefz.
While they’re getting organized, it’s 1-1, bottom of the 2nd.
Baker isn’t looking terrific this inning…walked Cabrera. But it’s a dangerous lineup.
“I try to figure out whats going on from reading other posts but sometimes it is hard.”
Yeah, after all, if you read T’s posts the Twins have already won the next six World Series.
sure zwiefz… it is 1-1, after 2 innings.
Gomez double, stole 3rd, scored on mauer ground ball to 2nd. tigers score on sheffield HR off the left field foul pole.
Renteria doesn’t run well…Inning over.
To add to romer’s:
Twins scored their run on a Gomez ground-rule 2B, SB, Mauer fielder’s choice. (Harris out at 2nd)
Detroit’s came off of a Sheffield dinger (to left field as per his usual MO)
Oh…dang. Carlos G outran me to respond. Durn that Gogomez!
I said NO BUNTS THIS GAME, Gomez…….
Tolbert with a bunt single to leadoff the inning and then Gomez with yet another horrible at-bat, pops up the bunt to the catcher.
Gogomez=Poor Man’s Guzman.
And after the failed bunt, smacks his head with the bat. And swears in his native tounge back to the plate.
Tolbert SB.
I am flattered that someone decided to post as me!
Tolbert scores on a Mauer single. 2-1
And I see we’ve digressed to impersonating users. Fun.
I am flattered that someone decided to post as me!
Samer here, saves me some time. I think I’ll go make tacos.
Mauer tells all the doubters to STFU!
Still waiting, T…
You MUST know the anwser to the question! You couldn’t possibly be so temerarious to suggest that others don’t have YOUR baseball acumen when you can’t even answer a question a second-grade little-leaguer could.
The coaches steal a run from Robertson. Tolbert with a perfect read on his SB. Pudge’s throw way late.
Now he scores.
No kidding T…they REALLY need to get registered names on here.
Morneau fly out to LF. Going to bottom 3rd.
“Samer here, saves me some time. I think I’ll go make tacos.”
So is this poster a character from the movie Fargo?
After last night’s slugfest, looks like we’ve got a duel of sorts tonight.
Hunker down Baker, you’ve got your work cut out. Put that monster back to bed.
Little does JoeC realize that everybody that posts here is just one of the many multiple personalities that make up T-gion.
Yes. I’m that freakin’ insane.
“Morneau fly out to LF. Going to bottom 3rd.”
Ah, so the master plan is revealed! T is practicing to be the next Bremer.
Pudge SB as he kicks the ball outta Tolbert’s glove. Great throw by Mauer.
Answer on the Hawking query from 50 posts ago:
Denny is doing national radio for FOX.
nicky hangs onto that throw…
Actually, T is 31 years old and is an employee of one of Mr. Carl Pohlad’s banks. He has worked there for the past 10 years. He is a favorite employee of Mr. Pohlad, and even is allowed to call his boss, Uncle Carl, although there is no blood relationship.
Methodically and surreptitiously, T has embezzled a whopping 400 mil dollars from Uncle Carl, over the past 10 years. All the while T has ingratiated himself with Uncle Carl by vigorously defending him on the Twins blogs. Though accounting irregularities have been noticed, absolutely no one suspects T.
In 3-4 years T will have embezzled enough of Uncle Carl’s funds to make an offer for the Twins team, that Uncle Carl simply cannot refuse. Thus, T, will become the new owner of the Twins, purchased with Uncle Carl’s very own money.
We need a new SS.
Ah, so the master plan is revealed! T is practicing to be the next Bremer.
If that were the case it’d be more:
“Morneau hits it HARD…it’s BACK….and Braburn catches it for the 3rd out.”
And I dunno if that one user wants play-by-play or inning by inning.
Please put Everett back in. I won’t to show my six year old girl how not to throw a ball to first.
SB? Pudge? busted run-and-hit?
When did they start giving the other team 3 outs an inning?
Well that’s no fair Craig, what with you being my evil twin brother.
But in all seriousness, that’s probably one of the funniest things I’ve read from in a while. Mind if I borrow it? I’ll give you full credit.
Hey Craig, do those ‘accounting irregularities’ include the fact that Santana’s and Hunter’s contracts have disappeared altogether?
I’m calling a Toby Gardenhire home run.
Wait..
where am I?
end of 3. 2-1 Twins.
That was actually all my idea. Uncle Carl had the checks written, I pretended to get mugged (Craig played the theif) and the money was lost.
Thus, no Hunter or Santana this year. But don’t worry, once I’m owner they’ll both be back.
And yeah, this is the actual T.
Wait..
where am I?
2020 maybe? Got any stock tips?
Actually Uncle Carl would recognize his own money when he saw it because it has the word “Sealy” imprinted on it from being under his mattress all this while.
Karlee, that was funny, no matter where you were. Saw Toby play h.s. ball at Roseville. He wasn’t even the best player on that team. lol
Actually Efus, I’ve ironed that out of all of it. It’s all part of the laundering process.
….see, that’s how you know it’s the real T. REALLY bad puns.
“Well that’s no fair Craig, what with you being my evil twin brother.
But in all seriousness, that’s probably one of the funniest things I’ve read from in a while. Mind if I borrow it? I’ll give you full credit.”
T,
It’s yours to borrow.
Why did you have to bring up the evil twin thing? Mom always liked you better. That’s why I went over to the dark side.
Wasn’t that the plan Craig? You take over the seedy baseball underbelly, I take over the front office (first step the Twins, next stop Commish).
Together nothing stops the MLB from becoming the next FIFA. (Except people in America will care)
“I’m calling a Toby Gardenhire home run.
Wait..
where am I?”
Karlee,
You are funny, and making me laugh.
T, invest in Plutonium.
Thats what Nick Punto eats for breakfast.
That and the souls of everyone under the Mendoza line. So he eats himself. And thats quite wrong sir.
For the sans-tv group… After 4 innings, Twins 2, tigers 1. Baker giving up just one hit (a long one)
adam everett is the best defensive shortstop in the major leagues, so i hope his arm is ok and he comes back soon
T,
You know the plan. Haha.
KLK.
Just, no.
It’s like saying Sidney Ponson is a sexually attractive person who is the love child of bert blyleven and johan santana.
It’s all a lie.
There must be something broken with FSN’s graphics. They don’t seem to have stuck around more than a few pitches each inning.
Craig, I think you and I just wrote a movie.
Odd blogging tonight, which is ok with me.
It’s like we all washed ashore after the shipwreck last night, and now we’re lounging in the warm sand.
I don’t know……looks like Tolbert had a play at 2nd.
from an article by the astros reporter in the houston chronicle last year:
“[Everett is] the best defensive shortstop in baseball. He saves run after run, makes hard plays look routine. He’s so good he’s easy to overlook.
He hit just .239 last season, but made just seven errors. His .990 fielding percentage was the fourth-best in NL history. He went 53 straight games without an error at one point.
He was named baseball’s best defensive shortstop by The Fielding Bible, which had a panel of experts study the position. Before the 2006 season, The Fielding Bible called him “quite simply the best shortstop in the Major Leagues.”
-just google “adam everett fielding bible” if you need more convincing
That was a HECK of a throw by Gomez. Fast and dead-aim.
Strong throw by Gomez…..5 feet off the mark.
Did you see my arm?
in fact the article is titled “if you dont like adam everett, you dont understand baseball” - just give him a chance, you will love him soon enough
Nice work by Scott
5 feet up the 1st base line, T.
Tigers start with 2 hits, but don’t score.
2-1, end of fifth.
End of 5. Twins 2-1
5 feet up the 1st base line, T.
I see that now. I was mislead by the fact Mauer was ready for it. ![]()
Adam may be a fine SS, but the wing has to heal.
Another scorcher for Mauer……NOT!
He’s 2 for 3 after that bloop double.
Just tuned in. Did I see Pudge bunting?
WTF? ? ?
Way to break out of the slump, Joe.
Touch em all
Gardy makes the right call THERE!!!!
Ho. Lee. Crap.
Morneau puts the Twins up 4-1.
Justin Morneau!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that kid. Where would we be without him?
WooHoo! 2 run shot by Morneau!
“Ho. Lee. Crap.”
Chinese cook on 1960’s television show, Bonanza.
yeap, Pudge try to bunt on a ball up to his eyebrows…
Mauer 1R 2H 2RBI Double put 60 pts on is BA and some jokers here continue to dog him?
You’d think he as a Presidental candidate you’re so entrenched and reflexive in your commentary.
With Kube’s 3 K’s, I was just gonna say it looks like Monroe will get more DH AB’s.
Then I have to watch him bat, and…….nahhh.

*universe implodes*
No lead seems safe against this team.
Good grab by Lamb. Poor throw, but good grab by Morneau.
Ugly play, but it worked.
4-2 on a Maggs Solo-shot.
That’s a BIG defensive play now.
Quality start for Baker. 4-2 Twins.
KLK…Nick Punto is better on the field.
Sorry.
I win, always.
Another fyi: AL is better than NL
Danny G on the radio seems to think that Maggs was a little too proud of his work.
Baker needs to roll now and go 8 so he can hand the ball straight to Joe.
Let’s see — Guerrier in the 7th, Neshek in the 8th, and Nathan in……..wait……..
Sorry.
T, Craig…
Get a room, would ya?
For a solo shot to draw within two he did stand and watch it a little too long
Maggs should get dusted next time off. Just saying, that’s what should happen. It wasn’t that pretty of a HR to admire it that long.
Gladden is old school. Gotta love it.
Anyone else hear the barn yard lamb noises from the crowd when Lamb is at the plate? Hilarious.
Just tuned in. Had to work late. Was J-Mo’s blast a good one?
Well, that’s no good. Tigers have enough issues already with their staff.
Boy, the injuries just keep piling up for the Tigers. That Willis/Cabrera trade is starting to become far more crippling than they thought.
0-3 pitch. So you know the Justin got one he liked and took it downtown.
Just tuned in. Had to work late. Was J-Mo’s blast a good one?
Supposedly measured at 386ft. It was a no-doubter.
yeah, that would be 3-0 pitch. yeash
T,
[sarcasm] I really feel sorry for the Tigers [/sarcasm]
Bill, not a low liner, but a no-doubter liner type. Ordonez didn’t move in right.
3-0 pitch? Wow.
My buddy tells me Mauer has 2 of the cheapest hits ever, but they both drove in runs.
i like Nate Robertson i hope he’s not that injured but i hat the Tigers and i know this is going to sound mean but i hope he goes on the DL just to hurt the tigers pitchiung staf
There must be something about Ordonez and not moving on HRs. ![]()
And Bill, he had the green light on the 3-0 pitch.
“That Willis/Cabrera trade is starting to become far more crippling than they thought.”
At least they try to improve their team though through trades and FA’s.
My buddy tells me Mauer has 2 of the cheapest hits ever
He drove in one on a FC, and then a bloop double that the LF couldn’t get to (ahead of Morneau’s homer).
The first hit was a true one though.
Mauer cheap hits = slump busters
At least they try to improve their team though through trades and FA’s.
Just a tip, you should probably take the fake name down before replying to the person your impersonating.
So, uh…this series starting to be eerily simliar to the Chicago series.
3 out 5 hits HR’s
&^%$*$&$%(&Z
That’s Tigers baseball! 3 solo shots.
Gotta knuckle down now, collar is getting a little tight.
Baker is this year’s Santana when it comes to the gopher ball.
I swear.
If we lose tonight.
I’m going to just lose it.
But I guess I always have Hockey to look forward to.
Anyone warming up? Deja vu? Gardy learned his lesson?
Just out of curiosity, there’s been 4 homers for 5 runs tonight.
Out of last night’s 20, how many were off of the longball? 1 from Pudge’s “dinger”
As a resident of the DC metro area I’m enjoying a Twins, Caps, Wild triple headers tonight. Caps not looking good at the moment, hopefully the rest goes better.
Anyone care to start a pool for who the first Twin to go deep not named Kubel or Morneau??
My prediction is Gomez some time in June.
wake up bert, that pitch was high to Thames.
Baker recovers and looks strong.
4-3, end of 7.
Will Baker pitch the 8th?
Pushing 90 pitches that might be it for him tonight.
Maybe one more baserunner?
84 pitches for Baker after 7.
Welcome Welcome Darby…..
i would imagine reyes would start the 8th to pitch to clete thomas and then crain
With a lefty (Clete Thomas) coming up, I can see Reyes there…
Anyone care to start a pool for who the first Twin to go deep not named Kubel or Morneau??
Mike Redmond in an emergency pinch hitting situation pops one out just over left field for a walk-off 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians to complete the sweep.
*wakes up*
And did they just go to commercial mid inning? This is truly FOX.
“I swear.
If we lose tonight.
I’m going to just lose it.
But I guess I always have Hockey to look forward to.”
Karlee, are you a sports junkie?
Pitching change.
MLB.com has Baker at 91 pitches.
A solo shot from Lil Joe would be stupendous.
How nice is it for the tigers to have their AAA team in Toledo??
Imagine if our AAA team wa sin St. Cloud.
Dream on…..
pitch count = overrated
I mean, dream on re Mauer.
What a bizarre delivery…
Okay, one of those pitches was a ball.
pitch count = overrated
Tell every manager in the league that.
…Okay, ALL of those pitches were balls.
Dream on re Morneau too.
WTF was that morneau
in comes crain
questionable strike call that’s WTF.
That’s what I don’t get. All of these Managers are old school guys that played back in the day when pitch counts weren’t tracked very close. The othe night, Bert said he had over 200 CG’s in his career. What’s so different about the game nowadays?
Multi million dollar signing bonuses for draft picks and $100 million contracts.
I just love me some Hockey and Baseball.
And when it’s on one after another, I don’t have to ask for much more.
Maybe a turkey burger.
Wow. A Twins pitcher comes inside! Thank you Jesse Crain.
Who will be the first pitcher this season to pitch a complete game for the Twins?
A) Livan
B) Someone else
C) No one
All of these stats like saves and holds and what not lead to the specialization of the bullpen.
If it works for one team…inevitably the rest will follow.
Turkey burger? Give Buffalo a try sometime.
See, now that pitch was as high for a ball as Morneau’s was low for a strike.
And I can see this one begin to slip away.
need a ground ball…
Nathan better be getting loose
Throw the hook and get him to roll it over.
Toby:
Good luck with that.
Good to see Crain get a chance here. I hope he comes through.
HR guess not named Kubel/Morneau = Young, though I’m not sure how, as he just doesn’t seem right to me right now.
Jesus, don’t miss up there again!
This is why I hate pick-off throws.
Gardy, Nathan. Now. Please.
AHHHHHHHHHH Why even pay him any notice
Why even throw over there at 1-2? Stupid
Now we need a K or a pop up.
Man, Span in right and he’s to that ball fast enough to maybe hold the guy at second.
MAYBE.
walk him or punch him out
Agreed DJB. I hate when they get tied up with pick-off throws.
Wow that was strike 3 there
Oh you have to be KIDDING me. That was better than ANYTHING the ump called against Morneau.
K zone is getting smaller and smaller
*sigh*
I would walk Ordonez
Thats exactly why you throw around him. What happened to Twins fundamental baseball in this series… Whats gardy thinking, you have to throw around him
How Stupid can a manager be
Man, Span in right and he’s to that ball fast enough to maybe hold the guy at second.
MAYBE.
Ummmm, not even close.
You’d have been a little more credible a minute ago.
Pitch around Ordonez to get to Cabrera?
Why not pitch around Mauer to get to Morneau?
Should have had joe loose and ready for this situation
So much for that great bullpen. It has not exactly done its job lately. Oh well, they are on pace for the kind of season I expected…
Ummmm, not even close.
Shhh…I’m in denial!
Lets see you walk Ordonez who kills the Twins, or you pitch to a guy who hasnt swung the bat well all year. I swear if they lose this game, you can pin BOTH losses on Gardy, then the bullpen.
Why do you pitch to him? we are fu&^% lucky we are tied.
mike, it’s Detroit’s offense. They weren’t going to stay quiet forever. The Twins woke’em up last night. And now they have to suffer.
But in all honesty, that K-Zone has all but vanished in this inning.
He’s the closer. Right or wrong he only pitches the 9th.
Wrong btw but that’s the way it is. I think he made 3 appearances before the 9th last year.
DElmon needs to step up and get extra bases so we can end this thing without needing to use anyone other than nathan.
Crain bringing 95 mph heat. Now loses command on the 76 mph curve.
I smell a HR
I predict a big blow by Delmon to put the Twins ahead. Massive shot.
Woooo way to go Twins! game over, have a nice flight back to the cities… garbage baseball
Mariano Rivera seems to have had a fine career pitching the 8th and 9th inning.
Absolute nightmare
Lets see you walk Ordonez who kills the Twins, or you pitch to a guy who hasnt swung the bat well all year.
And just knocked it over the fence.
At least now the pick-off throw doesn’t make the difference.
Why do you pitch to one of the premier hitters in baseball with 2 outs and first base open?
Unbelievable.
just walk the first 8 guys and pitch to Thames.
“It ain’t over ’till it’s over” - Yogi Berra.
Or not.
I guess you shouldnt walk anybody if your going to groove a fastball right down the middle.
Got that right romer.
The Twins needed Nathan tonight. I have NO idea why he hasn’t been brought in yet.
The story of this series is the bullpen meltdown.
Absolutely embarrassing. The offense can’t give them 9-runs every night.
Why would you throw a fastball to HIM of all people in a 0-2 count. This is embarassing.
YEAH! Way to go supposed solid bullpen 2 blown great games by starters in 2 day. Gotta love it
Shhh…I’m in denial!
Of course at this point it doesn’t make any difference anymore.
I was afraid of this happening.
Everyone screaming for Nathan is right but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.
Crain just hasn’t be right since 2006. Him or Rincon for that matter. I guess I see why the Twins felt they need to keep Natahn around-at least to have one consisten bullpen guy who SHOULD pitch in the 8th inning sometimes.
A pretty high fastball too, Toby.
No reason Nathan can’t get 4 outs.
Papelbon can
Rivera can
Gardy, way to blow this one…
Nathan needed to come in there. He hasn’t pitched since Saturday, and this is a must win (salvage a split after almost taking the first game)
If he blows it, then you’re screwed anyway and have to piece something together…but that was Nathan’s time.
Now we will see if who belongs in the lineup. They can step up or step down AAA Ball
Agreed about Nathan - would have brought him in with the runner on 3rd…
Nathan hasn’t pitched since Saturday.
Very bad decision to not bring him in.
Why keep Nathan he never pitches
2 blown great games by starters in 2 day.
This is the bullpen’s problem. The starters scrwed up, but they had leads when they left.
Against a mighty lineup. (Yes, this is a good lineup)
Twins wound up the Tigers…I’d hate to be the team playing Detroit after this. They must REALLY like the Twins right now.
Piece of trash.
@#$% @#$% @#$% @#$% @#$%
So what is the score? Is the inning over yet?
what is going on here
Thank god I almost snapped.
In other news my Caps just pulled w/in 1 on a controversial goal w/ 4:30 to play.
WTF just happened?
Looks like I swore too soon.
Cant reverse it. Cant do it
Did Delmon keep running the whole way?
Young just stepped up
todd jones is friggin ugly
Have to take the ball out of the glove with the bare hand, right?
well theres a good break for our boys
LF pulled a Span and dropped the ball. Great heads up play by the ump.
Great job by Young keeping with it. The only time he slowed up was when the throw was coming in.
Did Delmon keep running the whole way?
He held up between 2nd and 3rd when the throw came in from LF. But it went wide and he took 3rd.
Why have monroe hit we need a hit not a K
Take a pitch, Kubel.
mlb gameday gave the old “in play (outs)” on that hit what happened
Okay, seriously. This K-Zone has me completely lost.
Should bring in span or Red
The ball was going over the fence, LF got his glove on it and pulled it in…but it fell out on his way down.
Delmon on the heads up play kept going and made it to third.
Also of note: that was ruled a Triple.
So as confused we were about Span’s “error” last night, here’s an equal ruling for Young.
Yup, K zone is weird.
LETS GO CRAIG
Way to go Craig!
Just in time for me to see the bullpen implode again. Thank you, Jesse Crain, you bastard.
There you go, Monroe.
Here comes Span as pinch runner
I take back all the bad things I have said about him If we pull this off
Come on mike earn your 3 million with a gapper
Seriously,
Score?
Situation?
I got nothing but you guys here
Monore didn’t overswing for once- nice piece of hitting.
For non-tv/radio: Monroe RBI single to LF. Young scores. Span PRing for Monroe.
Lamb flies out to LF. 2-out. Tolbert hitting.
mike lamb is friggin ugly too
almost a homer?
1 run game 2 outs 1 on top of 9
Yep, official. 2 different K-Zones these last two halves.
That was WAY outside. Pudge is sittin’ outside.
Ump is fricked.
almost a homer?
Detroit LF pulled it back on the field before dfropping it.
these strikes do not appear to be so
Tolbert’s showing some spunk. I hope he can get rewarded.
It’s great, you can see on mlb.com exacly how far off the plate it was and the caption ‘called strike’
Good AB for Tolbert. The count is 1-2 though.
Not hitting like a rookie here. I’m impressed.
I hate these kinds of ABs. Because they always end unfairly.
Tigers attempt the hidden-ball trick. That would’ve been embarrasing.
Good battle, Jones wins.
CRAP.
I am going to go insane watching this team
You got it T. These Tigers could get hot now. scary.
Time for a Burbon and hope the Wild salvage the evening.
Guess I was close on the Young call. Oh well, another blown game by the bullpen. Gotta say, 5 runs against the Tigers pitching is pretty bad
Why didn’t Punto pinch hit for Monroe? I mean, I figured after last night that Punto was the better hitter.
Two lessons learned by Gardy:
1) Sometimes Nathan has to pitch the 8th.
2) Get the bullpen warmed up BEFORE there’s trouble brewing.
Other than that…the offense didn’t look to shabby (with a few exceptions) over this road trip (5, 12, 5, 2, 1, 9, and 4 runs)
I’m glad it’s still earlier in the season though. These are mistakes the team can’t afford to make if the offense is going to pick it up like it has lately.
Well thank god we woke them up in a two game series and not a 4.
Now let’s hope the Tigers beat up everybody else for a while. The Twins need a break to recoup and hopefully get back into their winning ways with some Ws against TB and Cle.
Why is bullpen trying to pick people off. Not like Morneau got a Gold Glove over there.
I dont see why they dont try and steal or hit and run with span on first in either at bat, why pull monroe for a PR if you are expecting to just get 2 singles to score, they were playing no doubles defense, Gardenhire really can be clueless.
Best bullpen in baseball. Yup.
I like this line-up Tolbert struck out, but he battled his ass off at least. Lamb making three plus million this year and not doing shit.
gotta be pohlad’s fault.
PITCH A PERSON U PAY 12 MILLION A YEAR WHEN YOU NEED THEM, I THINK I SAW NATHAN AND HIS AGENT PLAYING CHECKERS IN THE 8TH.
Sorry about that I think I broke my keybooard typing.
The Twinkies will win 70 games top this year.
Twins /Bullpenn you are freakin good. Did Nathan even come on the road trip with yall or is he at the bank, cashing the twins paycheck for not playing baseball. awesome
You guys just jump started our season.
Thanks
Jesse had good stuff but he fell in love with his fastball against Cabrera and that pick off was so dumb. Polanco was going nowhere at first base. Gardy needs to use Nathan sometimes to get 4 outs. Maybe Pohlad can lobby his buddy
Bud Selig to move the Twins to the AL West. I don’t think we can compete in this division with the teams that hit the ball over the fence so often. Also,
Baker has such good command he needs to back hitters off more. Throw up and in and low and in to get their feet moving. If not, he’s going to give up 60 homers this year. 6 solo shots the last two games alone.
Gomez clowns around a bit too much.
Monroe now has higher BA than Lamb.
4 Right-handers in the BP are doing lousy.
But close games in Detroit.
I presume the flu and cold weather are over for the year.
Time to start the season over at the Dome.
Basic Fact of Managing:
in a close game, with two outs in the either, and the tying run at the plate in the best hitter on the opposing team, you bring in your best pitcher.
It is that simple. Sometimes I am astounded by the idiocy of Gardy.
I mean, what the hell is Nathan on this team for if not to get the tough outs at the end of a game? This was THE At-bat that decided the game. You knew it was going to be even before he hit the homer.
How much longer will we tolerate Gardy because he’s a “minnesota guy”?
Whem did we pick up this Neil Diamond and what position does he play>
TigersFan–
Enjoy your 4-10 start. Have fun getting owned by Cleveland and Tornoto this week/weekend.
Two games in a row without Nathan coming out in the 8th with two outs? Im sure glad they payed him all that money to sit out in the bullpen and watch Crain blow it. Good move Gardy
Where was Nathan?
Terrible managing the last two nights by Gardy…the bully yips two 8th inning leads and your All-Star closer rides the pine the whole time…
“minnesota guy” Hardware? Last I checked, he was from Oklahoma.
This three game skid is bogus, terrible bullpen management… isn’t this why we have 12 pitchers? Whats wrong in the pen?
Wasn’t Dick Bremer trying to show off his hockey knowledge by telling us to brace ourselves for a close Wild game tonight?
Meanwhile over in Colorado, the Wild have been on what’s gotta be their 7th penalty of the night.
It’s riddiculous. They get out of the box and are right back in it. Officials should be ashamed of themselves after how much they let the two teams play the first three.
For those curious as to what I’m takling about:
http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=Boxscore&gameNumber=174&season=20072008&gameType=3
And go figure, fights break out.
What? NHL didn’t think three overtime games in a row were exciting enough?
Does anyone know how much speed Tolbert has?
“T”:
I can’t figure out that hockey. Last time I checked the North Stars had three players and Denver had five playing. They had two players sitting in the bull pen. How in “H” “E” double hockey sticks are they supposed to win that way? That would be like the Twins keeping their best pitcher in the pen while the game was still in doubt……..oh wait, we did that the last couple of days. We need a fight! A big rhubarb! A bench clearing OLD FASHIONED BROUHAHA! ! !
“I also would not mind giving Ploufe (spelling?) a chance at the big leagues.”
Plouffe is hitting .235 at AA.
Better to call up some one failing at AAA, or even better, someone SUCCEEDING at AAA!
I think its Buscher replacing Everett (if he goes on the DL).
I would prefer they call up Casilla to see if he responds as positively to his promotion as he did negatively to his demotion in early ST. Maybe a little good news might set him on fire.
Another decision has to be made when Cuddyer returns.
Do they get rid of Monroe or option Span?
Karlee says:
fyi: Neil Diamond is comming here on tour!
ps: I hate Neil Diamond.
Free quote from “What About Bob”
Shrink: Are you married?
Bill Murray: I’m divorced
Shrink: Do you want to talk about that?
Bill Murray: There are 2 kinds of people in the world. Those who like Neil Diamond and those who don’t. My ex-wife loved him.
“I also would not mind giving Ploufe (spelling?) a chance at the big leagues.”
Plouffe is hitting .235 at AA.
Better to call up some one failing at AAA, or even better, someone SUCCEEDING at AAA!
If I’m not mistaken .235 is a career high for him too isn’t it? This kid has hit worse than Everett since we drafted him.
Was reading up on the matchups for the Rays series. What the heck…it’s the only two games they play at the Dome this season!
I mean, the Rays aren’t exactly a mega draw around the league, but what happened to the 3 and 3 series? I know last year the Twins took two trips to Fenway (and I think two to New York) for some reason) for a total of 6 games there 3 here or something riddiculous like that.
These MLB schedulers have their heads up their…uh…butts.
One good thing about the Detroit series——-It was only 2 games.
HAVE FUN !!! GO TWINS !!!
agree with last nights thinking t. why pitch your 4-5 best relief pitcher against the best hitters on the tigers in the 8th instead of bringing in nathan our best relief pitcher? gardy plays by the book, nathan can only pitch in the 9th because gardy’s book says so. but on the bright side (always want to be positive) he should be rested and at this rate he’ll not get much use if they can’t get out of the 8th.
i know it was ?? last night but why throw over to 1st when mauer has a great arm and the runner isn’t a base stealer anyway. are the bench coaches (who calls these plays?) just sleeping?
like I said yesterday we had to win yesterday to tie the series. Now the Twins are treading water while slowly sinking
hes not putting nathan in the 8th cause of nathans past doing more then 3 outs…
thats why.. also he didnt put neshek in because of last night.. who else was he supposed to put in? bass? ok lets give the rookie the ball with a one run game
nathan has had lots of trouble getting more then 3 outs.. sometimes even more then 2 outs….
That’s why quiver cheeks Nathan got a new contract. The Twins Bullpen will be in shambles soon with all the rookie pitchers and Boof Bonser
gobble,
“why throw over to 1st when mauer has a great arm and the runner isn’t a base stealer anyway”
I missed most of the game and don’t even know the situation, so this may be irrelevant.
Sometimes, coaches call for throws to 1B to see if the batter shows bunt early, revealing the other teams plans to sacrifice.
If that is not relevant to this situation, my bad!
Gomez should show bunt then swing away. This would draw the infield in then he could swing away upping his on base percentage and also would confuse the infielders
Thanks Joe C for having a muuuuuuch better blog sight then Howie’s.
