Gomez not in Saturday’s starting lineup

Carlos Gomez is not in the Twins’ starting lineup tonight after leaving Friday’s game with a head injury.
Gomez said he has a mild headache today, though he is confident he’ll be able to play in Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers.
He actually bumped his head twice Friday while stealing second base in the fifth inning. The throw from catcher Ivan Rodriguez got him, and he also bumped into second baseman Placido Polanco’s knee.
Still, the Twins doctors examined Gomez on the scene and cleared him to go home last night.
“When they tell me that, I don’t feel scared,” he said.
UPDATE: Ron Gardenhire could rejoin the Twins on Wednesday in Chicago. Mike Gardenhire’s funeral likely will be Tuesday. … Interim skipper Scott Ullger said Carlos Gomez might get Sunday off, as well, since the Twins are off Monday. That would give Gomez a full three-day break.
