Nick Punto tested his left hamstring during batting practice, and it didn’t go well. He said he definitely feels a strain in there, and the Twins plan to place him on the 15-day disabled list after this game.

There will be a roster move announced later.

So who do the Twins call up to replace Punto?

Casilla? I doubt it.

Basak or Clark? God help us.

I sure hope nobody gets hurt out there tonight. The Twins don’t have any spare infielders who can play tonight, with Harris and Punto out.

The question is, who will replace Punto on the roster? No infielder at AAA has played well enough to warrant a call up. Matt Macri has 8 errors already. I suppose it’ll be Buscher, but that doesn’t help the middle infielders. The other option is Casilla, who’s played well of late after a horrible start. It will be interesting to see.

i think luke hughes should get his shot while punto and harris are injured…. give him a shot… best thing that happens is everett doesnt start anymore…. :P

i think it is pretty obvious that buscher will be called up. tolbert gives us a backup at ss or 2b, if harris can’t go soon, they’ll have to make another move.

Yikes, this team seems very injury prone this season. It needs to stop!

kmack says:

Plouffe or Hughes. Both seem to be hitting well at AA. Maybe even Tolleson.

Brock says:

I actually think it should be an outfielder since we only have one backup out there on a normal day. So probably Denard Span.

JP says:

only one back up for OF?

both Kubel and Monroe can play OF with Kubel able to play LF and CF and Monroe all three. if they call somone up it will be an infielder.

What a tragic loss to the Twins.

Please god don’t let it be Denard Span.

I have no problem with them bringing someone up from AA like Plouffe or Hughes.

Kubel or Monroe DH usually, that is what I was saying

When was the last time the Twinkies brought somebody up from Double A? That doesn’t happen much but I would like to see Ploufe rather than raiding the bare cupboard at Rochester.

I think that Hughes is the best candidate for call-up, but seeing that he already has 5 errors this year and 24 k’s I doubt Gardy will go their. He will continue to act like this team isn’t suffering because of the lack of pop in the lineup and play weak hitters like everett and punto all the time.

Yup it will be Buscher will be the called up and he’s just as good Lamb as far as I’ve seen…..maybe better.

Oh……..Punto.

*goes into hiding*

Buscher, Watkins and Basak are all starting tonight at Rochester (so does Span & McDonald). On the other hand, Casilla is not… do you think?

T says:

May 10th, 2008 at 6:12 pm

Provided Harris doesn’t have to go on the DL, Buscher should get the call. Lamb showed last night he has some potential as a bench guy, but his consistency isn’t good enough for a starter.

I’d still like to see Buscher get the starters nod with Lamb serving as a bench option and backup 3B/1B.

Kevin H says:

It won’t be Hughes. He’s hurt. He crashed into the wall while playing CF and fouled a pitch off his foot 2 or 3 days ago. He hasn’t played since.

It will almost certainly be Buscher. Keep in mind, Cuddyer can play the infield in an emergency.

BC Beneke says:

thrylos,

I haven’t looked… is Casilla playing well? If he isn’t wouldn’t they be wasting an option on him to bring him up as a backup player? I would give Casilla as much playing time as humanly possible, and hope that he’s the 2nd baseman or SS of the future here with Tolbert.

mj1 says:

fresh blog…casilla coming up??

JP says:

May 10th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Don’t like the ump so far. He’s squeezed Perkins on two pitches so far. And the SO on Tolbert and strike called against Mauer looked similar to the strikes called.

CALL IT BOTH WAYS.

T says:

May 10th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

BC, Casilla + Tolbert infield? I didn’t think Harris was doing too bad at the moment.

JP says:

May 10th, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Should say strikes not called for perkins. CALL IT BOTH WAYS.

JP says:

May 10th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

GREAT AB by GOMEZ RBI with the walk!!

Lets go Tolbert.

sane says:

BC,
They have already used their 2008 option on Casilla when they cut him this spring.
He can go up and down at will the rest of this season and it still counts as only one option.

JP

Did you say that Kubel could play CF? You have got to be kidding me. Have you seen Kubel run? There is no way in hell that Kubel should ever step foot in CF. Monroe can barely play CF but Kubel can not.
