Gomez sick for series finale against Toronto
Posted on May 15th, 2008 – 10:13 AMBy Joe Christensen
Carlos Gomez, Joe Mauer and Mike Lamb are not in the Twins’ starting lineup for today’s matinee against Toronto.
Updates to come…
Update (11:15 a.m.): Gomez has the flu. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Gomez might be available as a late-game defensive replacement, but he was throwing up and didn’t sleep well last night.
Mauer and Lamb are getting routine days off with a day game after a night game.
Scott Baker’s bullpen session went well, and he will leave Friday for Fort Myers, Fla., where he’ll throw two bullpen sessions and likely pitch in an extended spring training game next Thursday. He has been on the DL with a strained right groin.
Update (2:15 p.m.): The Twins have acquired Blue Jays minor league infielder Sergio Santos and sent him to Class AAA Rochester. Santos fills the spot opened when Alexi Casilla was promoted to the big leagues. Santos, 24, was Arizona’s first-round pick (No. 27 overall) in the 2002 draft. He batted .186 in in 26 games for Class AAA Syracuse this year.
Update (2:45 p.m.): Gomez replaced Craig Monroe as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning. It’s 2-2.
