Everett, Punto updates; Saturday lineups

DETROIT — Twins shortstop Adam Everett will not need surgery but will need to rest to recover from his latest injury, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
The results of Everett’s MRI exam showed a stress reaction in his glenoid bone. Not a stress fracture, like Brad Radke had two years ago, but a stress reaction (a weakening of the bone), as Joe Mauer had in his leg last spring. The stress reaction is also causing some inflammation. So Everett will rest until he feels 100 percent and then begin a throwing program.
Nick Punto could rejoin the team by Tuesday, Gardenhire said. Punto reported no pain in his strained left hamstring as he ran the bases, took grounders and batting practice in Fort Myers, Fla. Punto will play five innings in an extended spring training game Sunday, and if things keep going well, he could join the team in Kansas City.
Matt Tolbert’s left thumb surgery went well Thursday, and there is no change in the timetable for his return. Probably two months.
Matt Macri will make his major league debut tonight, starting at third base. Mike Lamb had a big game last night, but Gardenhire pointed to Lamb’s .100 (2-for-20) batting average against lefties.
Joe Mauer is catching tonight and will likely catch Sunday afternoon, Gardenhire said. Normally, catchers get a break with a day game after a night game, but the Twins are off on Monday.
Gorgeous day here in Detroit, but neither team is taking batting practice because there is a kid’s clinic taking place, with hundreds of fans on the field.
