Monday lineups: Twins/Yankees

Posted on June 2nd, 2008 – 3:35 PM
By Joe Christensen

The Twins were slow to post the lineup today, so there apparently are some injury concerns that we’ll try to sort out as the afternoon progresses.

Nick Punto is not in the lineup, so perhaps his hamstring is acting up again. He is on the field playing catch as we speak, however.

Nick Blackburn was in great spirits, however. His upper lip is still very swollen, but he plans to throw his usual bullpen session Tuesday, keeping him on pace to pitch Friday at Chicago.

Updates to come…

Update (4:40 p.m.): Punto did indeed tweak his hamstring during Saturday’s 12-inning loss. But he told Gardy he hopes to be ready to by Tuesday.

Justin Morneau was also questionable today after fouling a ball off his right knee Sunday and tweaking a calf muscle. He convinced Gardy he could play.

Scott Baker arrived at the Dome and will throw a bullpen session Tuesday. He’ll start Thursday, and Boof Bonser has been told he’s moving to the bullpen.

Cmon Livian,

I am in a bet for wins and you are 2 behind the leader…. I don’t want to pay out that beer! Go Twins :)

I hope ESPN isn’t blacked out here. I can’t stand another Kay called game.

I get to go to the game! Woo hoo!! Wish Kubel was in there, but I’m really happy that at least Mauer is in there against the lefty.

Someone find Souhan. How is it possible for all these old and tired Yanks to be trotted out for yet a 4th game against us?

Gardy must be sick or having a sometimzer moment not having the team MVP-unto in there.
Of course the way he gets after it and battles he may have re-injured himself.

Jason says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:35 pm

“Wish Kubel was in there”, Seth?

What is it with the Twins’ bloggers…first Gleeman and now Seth…I guess having access to a computer does not make you an expert after all.

Kubel is 4-for-25 post grand slam (as I have well-documented on Howard’s blog). I get it if it’s a hero-worship thing, but from the standpoint of logic…Monroe is the right call and probably overdue to get regular reps as the DH. The dude’s only 31.

william says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:40 pm

When are the Twins going to bring up Jose Morales to be the back up catcher? He is a better hitter than Redmond and just as good or better defensively. Also, Morales can run the bases. Morales is a switch hitter like Tolbert and can add alot to the quality of the team. Morales was an outstadning catcher at AAA last years when he was the League ALL-STAR catcher. His average is steadily climbing again this year. The guy is a regular hitting machine and should be with the Major League team instead of Redmond. Redmonds should be the bullpen catcher. Morales is 25 years old and should not be waisting away at Rochester. With Redmons aging, the Twins need to bring up Morales for some quality experience.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:44 pm

No way Nicky sits two games unless he is hurt again. I think we have a hint of what the next personnel move might be when Baker comes back… It looks like Punto may have some longer-term, slow-healing injury to his hammie. Maybe he goes DL again and we do a short-term 13 pitcher deal until we can trade a pitcher.

Our MIF options are dwindling again, if that’s the case. I still think our next spot to fix is SS, rather than 3b.

I think we have 3 ok guys to run through 3b right now on the 25 man roster (Lamb, Harris, and Macri) with more guys waiting in the minors and Tolbert maybe healthy later this year.

2b is going well with Casilla… don’t mess with that right now.

But, SS is pretty iffy. I like Harris’ performance there — on the balls he can reach; but he can’t reach as many as we need him to.

So, either Casilla moves over to SS and we risk messing with his short-term success or we play Harris there and give up a few more hits up the middle and through the 5-6 hole. If I was Smith, I would be looking for a trade to fix a MIF spot.

SweetOne says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:47 pm

William,

While you may be right that Morales deserves to be up here, Mauer is our starting catcher and they would prefer Morales to play every day in AAA instead of once a week up here.

Redmond is suited to the role of back up catcher at this point of his career.

Josh Meyer says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:48 pm

With Baker coming back, are we going to keep 13 pitchers and option Macri? Why not release Rincon?

Jason says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:48 pm

william makes some good points, there…although Morales didn’t exactly light it up when he was brought up last season, did he?

Plus, Red Dog is in the Gardy Country Club…heck, he’s Chairman of the Board…so that’s wishful thinking, william.

I don’t mind the 13-pitcher thing so long as it only lasts until the team finally gets an off day…in the short term, it’s not a terrible idea.

Jason says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:50 pm

On Joe C’s update:

Luckily for the fans, the right guy was able to convince Gardy to play him today (Morneau instead of Punto).

PDX Twin says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Boof to the ‘pen! Good decision, I think. That must mean they are pretty confident that Blackburn will be ready to start on schedule.

“william makes some good points, there…although Morales didn’t exactly light it up when he was brought up last season, did he?”

If my memory serves me correctly, he was 3-3 until he was injured sliding into second base in his first and only game at the ML level…

JP says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 4:58 pm

That’s not exaclty sucking…

Steve in Beijing says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:12 pm

Glad Blackburn is in good spirits. Didn’t Jim Kaat get hit by a batted ball and lose some teeth in 1960s? Has he commented on getting hit, if he was “gun shy” when he came back, etc.?

BTW, we do get ESPN overseas so saw Twins-Yankees a couple days ago. With ESPN East Coast preferences, I see the Twins as much here as I do in the US!

Sniff the bat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:13 pm

Why not release Rincon?

I smell a trade. They could DFA him and trade him to the highest bidder. As bad as he’s looked of late, he probably is worth a prospect. We got decent value back from Castro and Ortiz. If nobody offers anything, then you try to slide him through waivers. If he’s he claimed, no big whoop, except for the million plus dollars your paying him for zero innings. I doubt they’ll keep 13 pitchers, especially with Punto’s tender hammy and Harris’ lead feet.

pedro says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:13 pm

So who do you guys think will make the All-Star team for the Twins this year? Mauer and Mourneau are both second at there positions. Will we see Nathan? Blackburn? Any long shots out there? Maybe Gomez if he has a big June?

twinsfan32 says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:22 pm

Boof to the Pen!! Yessssssssssss. about time. they should try to trade boof. he’s still young and i think he would do alot better in the NL

thrylos98 says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:43 pm

All-star team
at this point, Mauer, Morneau and Nathan are probably the only Twins who deserve to be there. Gomez needs to go really crazy and hit .400 in June to be there. The only other pitcher with a remote outside chance is Livan, if he goes something like 6-1 on his starts before the AS game. I hope that they both do that, btw :)

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 6:08 pm

I can see no realistic scenario of Gomez making the All Star game this year, even though I am one of his biggest fans.

He has a few too many holes in his game yet. While he would bring some excitement, there are too many OFs established that will go in front of him.

I think Mauer and Morneau are the only realistic players for this year. Maybe Nathan if he gets a bunch of saves in June.

Nicky could make it if he wasn’t injured (just kidding folks).

Col. Nathan R. Jessup says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 6:17 pm

With Livan devolving before our eyes it seems like the thirteen member pitching staff isn’t such a bad idea.

Maybe he can provide us with another bench bat with the 13 arms.

A-Rod says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Right down the middle and just below the letters………THANKS, Livan!

thrylos98 says:

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 6:40 pm

Look for the same pitch next time up… only moving the ball over about 2 feet — chest high, over the batter’s box.

sincerely,

I miss Johan says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 6:54 pm

it’s angers me, really. Even though many people feel the Yankees have an unfair advantage with all the money they spend, both the Yankees and Twins have filthy rich old men for owners. The difference is the Steinbrenners actually care.

The New and Improved Craig says:

Harris isn’t as bad as what everyone thinks, but it became a dark day for Twins fans, when the news came out that the Punto hammy is still sore.

Can the Twins get Barty back in exchange for Delmon and Harris?
The Twins have plenty of OF, but it’s lean at SS.

Going Yard says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:17 pm

at least their showing anti-steroid comercials during the breaks - coincidence??

romer says:

thrylos98 says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Craig (new and “improved”),

lets see:

Harris: .249/.327/.329; 2HR, 14 RBI, 5.52 range factor and 0 errors at SS (league average 4.51)

Bartlett: .249/.300/.281; 0HR 9 RBI, 4.53 range factor and 5 errors at SS

Duh!

Not Terry Ryan says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Everett_Fan says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Bartlett truly can’t hit a lick but Harris needs to hit more like he did last year to play SS because of the range, although he does handle the balls hit to him.

Going Yard says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:27 pm

livo is pumped - I like it!!!!

The New and Improved Craig says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:27 pm

thrylos98,

Bartlett can play SS. Harris is a temporary patch, because they don’t have anyone else, right now. Harris will eventually get a look at 3B, when the middle infielders heal up. He’s not really a middle INF.

The New and Improved Craig says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:29 pm

The renowned patience of Gomez.

thrylos98 says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:33 pm

Craig,

I sort of quasi agree with you (see all of those modifiers?) , but given the availability of middle infielders who can actually really hit, Harris is ok.

I’d rather have Harris there than Punto or Bartlett. Harris is actually a better shortstop defensively than both of them and a better hitter than both of them… look at the numbers. Everett is way much better fielder so when he is really healthy he should be the starting SS… but Bartlett? Christian Guzman is a better SS than him ;)

Not Terry Ryan says:

A slow, schooboy shuffle by Harris. No DP.

Everett_Fan says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Harris is a sad case. He is stiff and conservative. He has the raw ability for 2b but he is to tense. Livan needs to teach him to relax.

The New and Improved Craig says:

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Doug M,
I agree Mauer put himself in a bad spot. No reason he had to reach that far for the tag if he was better positioned. If he is in right spot and drops a knee down, it is easy call for the ump.

If Mauer blocks the plate properly A-Rod never APPEARS to have crossed the plate, thereby removing all doubt in the Umps mind.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Had to remote in to work while I was watching the game, just getting in. Offense is looking good for the most part.

Yankees winning tonight in typical Yankee fashion. Get a few hits on their own then get some of those little “helpers” now and then.

For example, I count at least three times in which Cano should’ve been out. And once when Rodriquez should’ve been out.

But alas, that is the woe of ANY team playing the Yankees (especially on National TV). You gotta do everything you can to avoid the close plays, because they’ll get those.

Every time.

The AYCE, and then the Gas Discount thing. Nice.

The New and Improved Craig says:

The kid must have gotten a little pissed about the play at the plate.

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:31 pm

It’s down to Delmon and Livan inthe HR derby.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:31 pm

BTW:

The only people who ever imply Mauer is anything other than Mortal are the same people who continually rip on him anyway.

Everybody else just accepts him as another play (though he has a good ability to get on base)

Just a funny observation.

BayAreaTwinsFan says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:32 pm

This has been a good series. Hasn’t been pretty at times but at least the Twins have been keeping it interesting.

T says:

Weird…looks like he already shaved the beard prior to the dinger.

Hmmm. Perhaps a reverse Sampson?

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:33 pm

For fighting against the Yankees and the Umps in the same series, Twins have held their ground quite well against this team.

Much better so far than in previous years…*knock wood*

Mudcat says:

Ain’t gonna happen.

The New and Improved Craig says:

Joe ALWAYS reads these blogs. All the Twins do. Gardy studies them, to help him figure out the batting order.

I won’t go as far as FSN to say this is the “Evolution of Mauer”…

But I will note that I have never seen Mauer drive one like that before. He wanted that pitch and he got it.

…And Ump can’t call that one safe. Not at all.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:36 pm

An out call. Unbelievable. And on Jeter too. 2b ump didn’t get the memo.

thrylos98 says:

At least a real call…. darn

Nora says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Love it Jeter gets tagged out.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Yeah, THAT is why we need Cuddy’s bat to keep heating up.

Doug Munson says:

Mudcat- Is that a call?

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:38 pm

As safe as A-Rod at home.

T says:

Great bounceback inning by the Twins there. Got the run back right away and make a huge play to keep the Yankees off the bases.

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Going Yard, I’m not watching ESPN. So I take it from you that ARod was out.

Yep, pretty clearly A-Rod was out. Ball was there in time. But, Joe gave himself too long a sweep tag to make and didn’t block the plate, so it was not as easy a call as it could have been.

Nice that Joe could give us the run back.

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:41 pm

Fifth inning, eighth innning, whatever Telly.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Abreu gets a simliar play to Cuddy and miffs it.

Again, this is why Cuddy’s bat needs to keep heating up. Because he’s got that arm and can read that baggie like a pro.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:45 pm

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Mudcat, you get a half call for the go ahead run. ;)

romer says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm

I sincerely hope this offensive performance by him tonight gives D. Young the guts to field and do some power hitting.

thrylos98 says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm

(btw… Monroe has the highest OPS this season against RHP for the Twins… that’s why that was a stupid move)

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:47 pm

Not smart at all.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Nora says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Double GRRR.

tessa says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm

it wasn’t smart seeing how delmon just could have scored.

Col. Nathan R. Jessup says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm

I think that it is clear that Smiling Carl needs to add Delmon’s daddy to his payroll…or maybe he can replace Vavs with Poppa Young.

In case you didn’t know, Pops Young is in town for the game. Gardy told baby Hartman that he thinks Delmon is coming along in his listening to the coaches and it was a good thing that his dad was here to help him psychologically. Reading between the lines I don’t think, from the interview today, that Gardy is really hip on Young the Elder being around to “talk” to Delmon. Seems like it’s working to me.

JP says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:49 pm

can Lamb stay in the game as the DH and punto go in the field at 3rd?

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Not Terry Ryan — the reason it is not a good steal attempt is that Farnsworth hasn’t retired any batter yet before that attempt.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Pretty sure the steal was Gardy’s call there.

If Casilla weren’t heating up, I’d start to think Cuddy and Young were warring to shift around the #3 and #5 spots.

But watching Gomez and Casilla 1/2…how do you break that up? Or Mauer/Morneau?

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Carlos is right on. Barnswallow hasn’t gotten anybody out yet!

JP says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:52 pm

supposed to be a hit and run? maybe. they just showed the coaches talking to delmon on the bench, so i doubt it.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:52 pm

JP — no; Punto is our DH for the moment. Lamb will have to play 3b.

Nora says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Gomez is not good in those situations it seems. Needs to work on that.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:54 pm

JP - other option is to give up the DH and put Nicky at 3b and have pitcher hit if that spot comes up again.

Nora says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Really annoying. Would have been nice to be up by 2.

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Carlos G- they can make the switch with Punto at 3B and give up the DH.Since it’s the ninth and they are assuming Nathan closes it out that’s what they will do.

tessa says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm

go go gets too excited that he could be the hero and starts to think about all the funny things he’ll say to joe c and then when he thinks about the at bat it’s strike 3 :(

JP says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm

thanks carlos. don’t think you give up the dh though.

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Nathan’s going to have to earn this save….

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Wow I thought for sure they could give up the DH,hope I’m wrong and not Gardy.

Going Yard says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:58 pm

There it is. Boof is officially in the pen.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 8:59 pm

Yeah, Gomez still gets overanxious in situations like those from time to time.

He’s getting better, but it still pokes through when we least want to see it.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Doug M - I don’t think Nicky is feeling good enough in the hammie for lateral moves. Otherwise, I believe he would have gone to 3b.

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:00 pm

To second for one, first for two.
Double play!

Shoot.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:02 pm

Huge comebacks. Big game for some guys that needed it… DY, Cuddy, Joe’s 1st HR…

Could have won all 4 games. But getting the last two is great.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Great series by the Twins. Fought hard in all four games. Gotta be proud of this split.

JP says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Actually if I’m a Yankee fan, I don’t want Arod just coming off the DL sliding hard into second.

Game over!

Quick Poll: What channel did you watch this game on … FSN or ESPN

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:03 pm

That felt like a 15 round Championship Fight.

DrunkenWildDude says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:04 pm

espn

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:04 pm

FSN all the way. I could barely tolerate it on ESPN when it was the Sox…let alone the Yanks.

romer says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:04 pm

FSN

Carlos G says:

thrylos98 says:

Great series - I agree that we could (and should) have won all 4.

Out of town watching on ESPN.

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Carlos G- one game off the DL and LNP is to sore to play an inning at third? What did he come of the DL for? I hope that’s not the case.

A-Rod says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:06 pm

I play as hard as I want. I get the job done……mostly.

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:06 pm

FSN. Gotta love what’s his name’s homer calls.
Dick Bremer, I know.

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:08 pm

Doug- yes, the story is that he didn’t start last 2 games because his hammie was sore again. IMO, he ain’t quite healed yet. He looked a little bit lame after he hit 1b on the bunt. We’ll see. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses more time.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:08 pm

There’s some magic in that bench apparently.

Sit Gomez a few and look what happened. Sat Delmon and he appears to have woken up.

Considering that neither Kubel or Monroe can play well in extended stretches of starts may be some evidence of that.

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:08 pm

ESPN for Me.I can listen to Dick and bert anytime. The the threesome that called the game did an excellent job.Very fair coverage IMO.

JP says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:10 pm

espn. thought they did a good job.

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:11 pm

Going Yard says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm

I’m a twins fan through and through, biased as that may be, but watching the away games announcers on MLB.TV make me realize that Dick & Bert are the best in the game.

DrunkenWildDude says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:14 pm

i said espn just to change it up a lil get tired of listening to dick and bert sometimes but i dont mind them except dicks fake hr calls. they are not as bad the wild douche broadcasters, they are probably the worst comparable to fox’s nfl 3rd and 4th teamers

Tyler says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:14 pm

I hope that the Twins maybe can pull off another trade with the Mets at the deadline. I wouldn’t mind the Twins trading Livan for Aaron Heilman, or any other strong “hold” type bullpen pitcher. I think one more strong bullpen pitcher would take a significant amount of pressure of the bullpen and make this team much better.

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Delmon’s Daddy watching.
Joe’s Daddy probably watching.
Bring Mr. Kubel in. Tickets are discounted $3.989 each.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:16 pm

“Carlos G- one game off the DL and LNP is to sore to play an inning at third?”

Gardy would be crazy to give up the DH spot in a tight game against the Yankees.

Especially considering how stretched out his pen has been the last few games as it is. Now you want them to possibly hit?

Yeah, Nathan gets his job done that doesn’t happen…but with the lead Gardy goes by the book. The DH stays in the lineup.

T says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Doug, was ESPN the Morgan/Miller Dynamic Duo?

romer says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Ha! Good one, Mudcat.

romer says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm

10-3 now in Livan starts.

Macri looking good.

Jason says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm

1. Listening to ESPN commentators was a joy

2. Winning 6-5 (2008) is a heck of a lot more fun than losing 2-0 (2007)

3. Way to go Cuddyer and Young…you guys deserve a night to tip them back!

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm

T-No.I don’t Know the play by play guys name but i like him.Hershieser and the former mets GM(forgot his name also!).I turn the sound down on Sunday nights just because of Morgan. It’s to bad they are paired together, because I like Miller.

Tyler says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm

I thought Mauer was actually going to yell at the missed call at the plate. That would have been CRAZY!!!

JP says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm

no T

No morgan no miller. otherwise no way i watch there.

it was the hershiser group. like i said earlier thought they did a good job.

Jason says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:25 pm

ESPN was Dan Shulman, Orel Hersheiser, and Steve Phillips and they did a phenomenal job…and they weren’t predicting the outcomes of at-bats or circling anyone either…funny how that works.

They used a revolutionary concept…they acutally discussed baseball directed at a mature audience. Go figure.

Doug Munson says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Jason I couldn’t agree more about the ESPN crew.Shulman is an excellent Play-by-play guy.

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Well, that settles that!
Gardy DOES read this blog!
He knew Delmon’s age.

The New and Improved Craig says:

Tyler says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Jason says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:38 pm

This is actually as good as I’ve felt about a win in a while….

clutch hits by Cuddy and Young were huge breath of fresh air…and i still need someone to pinch me after Mauer’s HR

Mudcat says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm

He’s twenty something.

coondog says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 9:59 pm

carlos gomez- 5th youngest player in AL
delmon young- 10th youngest player in AL

Delmon is still adjusting to seeing the ball off the bat in LF. Playing a new position in the dome OF can make you look pretty bad.

Have to agree with Jason Doug on the ESPN telecast. Was amazed that Steve Phillips had actually heard of the Twins and their players. I thought that guy thought there was only two teams in the AL.

Nora says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm

So Cuddy does not make web gems on his assist. Heaven forbid ESPN make Jeter look bad. LOL

Carlos G says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 10:01 pm

He’s a Young 22. Not like Lebron James. He looked 30 at 18.

OK, Twins FO and Gardy… keep papa Young around for another game or two and if that continues to work for Young DY, then pay papa Young’s travel costs and suck it up that papa Young knows how to counsel Young DY. Not too big a price to pay… if it works.

coondog says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 10:03 pm

I also found it interesting how the announcers were amazed at this new Delmon. Last year when they saw him he was pulling everything, now he’s trying to go the other way. He must be listening to somebody about the way the Twins want their hitters to go about their business. They thought this was going to make Delmon a better hitter than just pulling the ball.

romer says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 10:43 pm

“…and they weren’t predicting the outcomes of at-bats or circling anyone either…”

I couldn’t disagree with you more, Jason, about the Bert circling. I like people-watching. And they do it pretty short and sweet and have a little fun.

But you’re right about predicting stuff and their “calls”. Sounds like high school kids with a radio show.

Some constructive criticism —- 1)there could be more dugout shots, 2)No more phantom HR calls by Dick, 3)No more Sheecago by Bert, 4)Some play-by-play guests (Bill Murray was hilarious on WGN years ago).

Lala72 says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 11:21 pm

Why would Punto be in the line-up anyway? He’s nothing but a reserve player at this point.

Lala72 says:

June 2nd, 2008 at 11:30 pm

BTW: Where is Boof going to fit in? Has anyone done the bullpen count? What, are we going to carry 13 pitchers? That seems pretty stupid for an organization trying to establish more offense. And, you already have Nathan, Matty G., Rincon, Reyes, Jesse, Bass, and the new guy. That’s seven guys, and Korecky SHOULD be up here; he’s more than deserving!

Cut Boof loose. The team is better without him. He’s just the newest Joe Mays or Kyle Lohse. If you can’t trade him, release him and make room for more deserving players. The truth is that if this organization can barely bat an eyelash over the loss of Santana and Garza, we won’t even notice Boof is gone, other than the fact that we don’t have an automatic loss every five days.

Get rid of Boof now. Seeing as he can’t get anyone out in the first innning, what good will he do out of the bullpen???

We already have Nathan and Liriano from the AJ trade. We obviously won that trade, so get rid of the corpulent loser already. It’s just like hanging on to a pair of sh-i-t-stained Fruit of the Loom briefs.

Cuddy is our x-factor.When he produces like tonight,we usually win.Gardy said the staff has high hopes for Young, they at least realize he’s only 22.If we can get Cuddy and Jason going at the same time, watch out!A-Rod still gets all the close calls from the umps,it’s kind of pathetic!

No-no-no-no-no, Lala72. Boof has lots of value.

He just did a 5-inning total stretch Saturday with only 2 ER’s. You think Rincon can do that?
