* Kevin Slowey will take his turn against baseball’s worst offense tonight, when the Twins and Nationals play Game 2 of their series. As Reusse noted today, this is make-or-break time for the Twins with 15 of 18 games at home.

* The Twins will face Washington righthander Jason Bergmann, who is 0-3 with a 7.47 ERA in his past three starts. It’s time for some offense. The Twins have nine hits in the past two games. And the coaching staff felt players “gave away at-bats” on Tuesday. Few things frustrate a staff more than players who look like they have no plan at the plate, other than swing, swing, swing.

* The Diamondbacks are next. A month ago, that sounded imposing. But Arizona is 7-14 since May 26. Last night, Brandon Webb turned in his shortest start in four years, in a 15-1 loss to Oakland. He’ll square off with Livan Hernandez in Sunday’s series finale. The other pitching matchups for that series include Randy Johnson vs. Scott Baker on Friday, and Micah Owings vs. Nick Blackburn on Saturday.
