Thursday pregame: Twins/White Sox

Posted on September 25th, 2008 – 3:53 PM
By Joe Christensen

I’ll post the lineups now and send updates as they come.

Update (6:25 p.m.): It sounds like there’s a good chance Cliff Lee will skip Sunday’s start against the White Sox after skipping Thursday’s workout with a stiff neck.

(*) Manager Ron Gardenhire said all of his relievers will be available to pitch tonight.

(*) Glen Perkins was very encouraged by his bullpen session on Wednesday, saying it was the best he’s felt in about a month. Sounds like the extra rest this week will do him some good for Saturday’s start against KC.

(*) Jose Mijares is eligible to be on the Twins’ postseason roster. I’ll have details in the notebook.

Update (8:32 p.m.): La Velle will keep you updated on Kevin Slowey’s right wrist injury over on his blog.

Twins (86-72)

1. Denard Span, RF
2. Alexi Casilla, 2B
3. Joe Mauer, C
4. Justin Morneau, 1B
5. Jason Kubel, DH
6. Delmon Young, LF
7. Brian Buscher, 3B
8. Nick Punto, SS
9. Carlos Gomez, CF

Starting pitcher: RH Kevin Slowey (12-12, 3.85 ERA)

White Sox (86-71)

1. Dewayne Wise, LF
2. Orlando Cabrera, SS
3. Jermaine Dye, RF
4. Jim Thome, DH
5. Paul Konerko, 1B
6. Ken Griffey Jr., CF
7. Alexei Ramirez, 2B
8. A.J. Pierzynski, C
9. Juan Uribe, 3B

Starting pitcher: RH Gavin Floyd (16-8, 3.84 ERA)

Metrodome. First pitch: 7:10 p.m.

Alright, let’s do this!!!!!

MarkW says:

September 25th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Sox sticking with the same lineup, I’m surprised to not see Swisher start any of these games… he pinch hit the other night, so I wonder why he’s on the bench again.?

RL says:

September 25th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

How many tickets have been sold for the game so far?

Joe says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

So…study for LSAT, or watch the Twins?

MarkW says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Well, I tried looking up just 1 ticket online and never got through due to the “high activity” I’m guessing it will be close to sold out by game time…

But I’ll be there.

Joe, study at 10pm, AFTER the game.

Scott says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

Joe, there’s plenty of other nights to study for some silly test. The decision is an easy one.

Twins!

AaronK says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:05 pm

Even if you chose to study, honestly would your mind be on the books? Or would the mind wonder about the game. Either way no real studying can be done. Watch the game!

Evets says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:07 pm

I have a feeling Slowey will bring his ‘A’ game tonight. He will probably have to because I’m thinking we won’t get much off Floyd. I hope the huge crowd and the wacky atmosphere get to Floyd….we shall see…

MarkW says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:09 pm

Nice to see it cleared up, should be a nice party on the plaza before the game!

Kill-a-brews says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:10 pm

It’s actually too late to buy tickets for tonight’s game online. All the “high activity” online is due to selling potential ALDS strips, and probably upcoming games against KC.

It doesn’t get more exciting than this!

Go Twins!

JustinCB says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Joe, no need to study for the LSAT, especially when Twins baseball this good is on. You’ll regret it. Knock that games section out and the rest of it isn’t really worth studying for anyway. Take a few practice tests and call it a day and then ask yourself, do you really want to subject yourself to the three years of utter abject boredom which is law school?

JustinCB says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

You should get a degree as a statistician and try and get a job working for a front office somewhere. THAT would be an awesome job.

gobbledygookguy says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:15 pm

i suppose buscher is back in for his defense? would we have won last night with buscher playing 3b?
like gardy always says pitching and defense!

MAUER FOR MVP says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Listen to Twins game, do Chemistry project that is due tomorrow, or go to schools bonfire?

Kill-a-brews says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

Sorry, my bad. You CAN buy tickets for tonight’s game online at this time. That wasn’t the case a year ago. Ain’t automation great.

DIGGITY DAZ says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

Let’s do this! Let’s knock Floyd around like a dime-store you-know-what and feast on that bullpen. I want this game to be in the bank by the 3rd inning: Twins up 11-1.

GO TWINS GO!
GO TWINS GO!
GO TWINS GO!

Good lineup! Kubel and Morneau have pretty good numbers against Floyd. Let’s hit some hard liners to the OF and watch them Old Sox chase them into the gap all the way to the wall.

WIN TWINS!

Catmandu says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

bury harris….why…can’t this dude play regularily or for LNP

JustinCB says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

throw chemistry project INTO bonfire, and then go put on the Twins.

BC of ND says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:18 pm

If you wanted to you could watch Ozzie’s meltdown tonight and write a term paper for your psych class.

Glanzer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:18 pm

Biggest, most important regular season game at the Metrodome ever? I’m pumped.

MarkW says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

Daz: Exactly right, we need to tag Floyd early, he’s susceptable to walks, so it’d be nice to get Span/Casilla on early and then drive them in…

MAUER FOR MVP says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Chemistry project is digital, and I probably won’t throw my computer into the bonfire.

I think I’ll do project and game at same time.

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Lastnight was the biggest Twins game I ever went to. The place was rockin…

Chad says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Just heard on Dan Berrero that the Indians are considering shutting down Cliff Lee and not pitch him against the White Sox. Not cool

Walter Johnson says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Joe says:
September 25th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
So…study for LSAT, or watch the Twins?

Joe, you still have more than a week. Enjoy the game.

Lost says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Interesting to compare the batting averages in the middle of the ChiSox order to the Twin.

Thome, Konerko and Griffey the big name guys are averaging .240 but lots of HRs.
Twin have Mauer/Morneau/Kubel/Young all around .300 with fewer HRs.

Advantage Twin!

Chad says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Why are people asking if they should study for tests or go to school’s bonfires????? Are you crazy! Why would you do anything but watch the game tonight????

Joe says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Twins it is! As if there was any doubt, I can still fit in a few games before 7:10…

jsin says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:35 pm

I AM a statistician, and I can tell you there are plenty of us who wish we could work in the front office. Kinda competitive, or perhaps you “gotta know the right people”.

BTW, there are plenty more statistics to do than sports stats.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:37 pm

I skipped class freshman year to go to the WS parade in 91 and skipped many a class in spring 97 for the NCAA tourney….. yeah i was in college awhile. :)

Sweetone says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Heatonator,

Unless the Twins win the next 3 and the Sox lose the next 3, the AL Central won’t be over before Sunday, so then Lee should pitch.

Catmandu says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

Because LNP is in line-up….may go watch grass grow at Como Park

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Bar is OPEN….No matter where one is, at the Dome, at Home, or on the Road, It Is Time!!!!Time to Grill Tuna fillets, Green Beans with special white sauce, and lots of Gooooooood Cooooool MILLER LITES. AJ Pesh says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Catmandu, as one of the biggest Punto bashers of the year, I say it’s time to put the anger aside and unite as one as we go into the most important game of the past 2 years! GO TWINS!!!

AJ Pesh says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

DrDon, how’s about you ship some of those Tuna fillets and Miller Lites over to West Fargo? That’s a quick drive for you!

earl says:

September 25th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Study or the game? that’s a no-brainer. Skipped class in 87 to watch us play KC. Skipped a final to watch us play Detroit (professor still passed me) GPA means nothing in the business world. GO TWINS

Chad says:

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/rosenblog/2008/09/sox-should-forf.html

This is how the White Sox and their fans are going into tonights game. Love it, backs against the wall.. Time for the Twins to kick their @$$ tonight and knock them out.

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:00 pm

The Sox-Tigers makeup game would be played on Monday, and the one-game playoff would be Tuesday, correct?

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

AJ Pesh…I do not deliver, but I do offer curbside service. Find me….Concordia College neighborhood, and trust me, my friend, the “scenery is awesome” if you know what I mean…LOL Let’s Go PUPS!!!! WIN TWINS!!!!!!!! Knock the Sux back to the South Side of Chicago, licking their wounds and kissing the AL Central Title Bye-Bye!!!! Our MadDog JunkYard Mutts will RULE!!!!! It is Miller Time here!!!! GO MUTTS!!!!!

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:09 pm

What was the blown call that is referred to in that Chicago online paper? It says Gomez shoulda been called out at second in the third inning, but he struck out that inning..?

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

TWINS WILL RULE….WHITE SUX WILL DROOL, and AJP is the epitome of a fool, and I hope to God that the ump behind the plate has a fair strike zone for Thome….Thome will end up 0 4 4 with 3 K’s if the umps call a decent game. WIN TWINS!!!!!

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:13 pm

Lest we all forget….Joe Mauer is ONE of the reasons that the Twins Pups are where they are….He call one heck of a good game from behind the plate, JoMa is the BEST CATCHER IN THE MAJORS!!!!!Bar None….speaking of Bar, it is open and it is Miller Time!!!!WIN TWINS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blair says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:14 pm

Joe ,
Baseball is just a game and passing the LSAT could be the key to your future. Take my advice and study during the commercials.

John Swan says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

gobble:
the answer is yes. Buscher can play some D as well. He made a great diving stop Tuesday to save a double…..Even better than you man Harris’.

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

Good advice Blair….

chi-town hustler says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

Oh please God,

do NOT shut down Cliff Lee!

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

He won’t be shut down if the game matters.

USAFChief says:

September 25th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

Thanks chi-town.

And we’ll return the favor by getting to the Sox ‘pen late so ya’ll are free to resume the death watch.

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

Aaron says:

September 25th, 2008 at 6:18 pm

The key to tonights game: A CONSISTENT STRIKE ZONE FOR BOTH TEAMS!

Aaron says:

September 25th, 2008 at 6:21 pm

or for the home team…one game in three is not asking for much

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 6:23 pm

Lexi getting on base is the key to this game.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

If the Twins can get to Gavin early and not let him pitch pass the 6th inning they should do really well. He’s done well against the Twins in all four of his previous starts. Go Twins.

Daniel1966 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

Dr Don, Sounds like a good time is brewing in the F-M area tonight. Enjoy yourselves all and let’s go Twins!

Maybe this was covered earlier, but what was everyone’s thoughts about the Gomez pick off last night. Was he as out as he looked at first? I thought the second angle of the play made it look closer. What do you think?

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Me neither! Excluding in October.

September 25th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Daniel1966 says:

Southern Arizona, where the clock just passed 5 pm. Set ‘em up, barkeep!!

DrDon says:

Aaron says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

I thought they would add to the schedule, at least for this series.

romer says:

Krissy says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

Hey Daniel1966, My bar is open too, and we have a real professional ump behind the plate tonight…Mike Reilly…he is good and consistant. and romer…let her fall asleep and come on back, man. Slowey is the man tonight…3 up-3 down, now our turn….Let’s go MUTTS, run em ragged…bunt, run, steal, kick, bite, chase, and let AJP shake his head in wonderment…WIN TWINS!!!!

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Just got here, so I don’t know if this ground’s been covered.

Does Ozzie know how to make up a lineup? What are Ramirez and AJ doing batting 7th and 8th. That’s crazy.

I’d have ‘em 1st and 2nd. With all his talk and praise of the Twins’ pihrannas, why doesn’t Ozzie run his pirhannas 8-9-1 with AJ the batman movin’ ‘em around from the 2 hole, and then that massive power coming up?

I’m glad Ozzie ain’t smart.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

That’ll do! now another one of those and then a blast.

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Gladden is ranting about the poorer Sox (read “old”) outfield. “Got enough HRs, now you’d better get some defense out there” or words closely to that effect.

Twins were DH-starved last year. The Sox have three great ones this year, AND Griffey.

Neither situation works.

tg says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

is there any score yet?

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

thrylos - correct, all 3 have been very good. I was thinking in past years I’m not remembering a case like this - or a couple as you note. There have been trades (Stewart) but not from the minors in early/mid-season.

David says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

I agree with Chief, this is such a big game can’t play for 1 run in the 1st inning. Poor managing there.

14-11

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

Let’s see here, I get to enjoy a coooolllllddddd Miller Lite in every inning the Twins score, so it is Miller Lite Time in Moorhead. How about Arizona, Daniel? and my friends…where is our Florida codger jmarksor, and bostonrob when we want them????

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

I love the strike zone of this ump btw

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:28 pm

HEATONATER, hard to see the ball in the OF sometimes, as you know. Griffey looked like he had it, got turned around a little, and lacks the speed to recover.

Mauer hit it 390 feet. 1-0 Twins.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

Let it be known that the home plate ump is apparently a huge Jr. fan…

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

I thought the same too.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

it used to be distro’d as close as Scranton, not anymore. Magic Hat had a beer last year i liked alot. some red label with a motorcycle. Not a fan of most of their beers.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

That was a nasty pitch, no more of that…

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:36 pm

Dick and Bert are as excited tonight as we all are, but they are holding back, as they have to. Betcha ol Hawk Harrelson on Sux TV is already whining, whatcha all think? Win Twins!!!!!

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:36 pm

That was a nice piece of hitting by Punto

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Sand with salt water —- HA!

That’s what you drank on R&R in Danang, no?

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

romer,

the Marshall job won’t happen….
too small town anyway

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Here comes the firedrill crew…Punto on, GoGo up.

JP says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

BASES EMPTY!!!! PUNTO GETS A BASEHIT!!!!

The Jason Tyner of the infield. Most empty .280 BA you’ll ever see.

Slowey looks good.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Way to go Carlos.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

That was a nice double for Gomez

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Crap, they held Punto. That woulda been fun.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

Dang it Span, that is a big at bat early in the game. Take a couple pitches.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

Span buddy be a little more patient, ugh.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

i agree gatty.

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:41 pm

What was that D-Span? All the AB’s where you work the count and then 1 pitch fly out? Need some runs boys.

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

29-23

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

All right, I’m here with my Morneau jersey on. Stupid boss made me stay a late for work. I’m all caught up with the taping of the game. I know you were all concerned.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

SWING and a miss!

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

Almost, I felt Span should have taken a pitch, but too late now. Up to the SlowMan. Great K……

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

Slowey just took Alexi to handling school

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

Have you guys talked about the 3rd crappy ump in a row?

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

Thanks romer!

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

“too small town anyway”

But apparently a larger than the whole state of PA when it comes to good beer.

But ya can’t be happy unless the better half is.

Ah, now for a St. Pauli Girl. Why aren’t these damn things twist-offs. Gotta go.

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Wow, good wood by AJ!!!!hahahahahaha

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Macleod says:

30 pitches, 3 innings, 0 for 9. Nice.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

That was a real quick and impressive first trip through the order.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Thank god I have the Hawk muted, since I bet he is bitching about the Gomez pick off last night.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

I’m calling a Morneau homerun.

Louie says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Way to go SLOWEY!!!!!!!!!

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

AJ was so mad he almost ran over the 1st base ump.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Wow, great job Slowey!

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

uneventful trip throught the order. now just need to pile on the run support

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Shawn that was an ESB if I remember correctly… try their IPA (I think it’s called Krazy Kat), pretty similar… their new mixed pack, has a great lager (called Participation Lager) that really kicks

and here comes the Dick, mentioning the “perfect” word…

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Heatonator, can’t tell ya how well Slowey is doing, because…………well, you know what I have to do — or rather, what I have to NOT do.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

I’m rubbing my Morneau jersey to help your call.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:48 pm

I miss Leinenkugels, especially Honey Weiss. Stupid California doesn’t have it.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:48 pm

What? Alexi should have just struck out on that pitch. Alexi feeling he just got away with something strikes out on a pitch outside…

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Macleod - got my 1991 ALCS shirt on for the 3rd day. Let’s keep it going guys!

Slowey looking awesome, go for the shutout!

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

wow. take note Slowey. Out out outside.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

thrylos,

#9 is the one i really don’t like. Some of the others are pretty good.

TwinsFix says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

Nine up, nine down for Slowey. One third of a complete game. Very impressive, and it’s hard not to get caught up in those “perfection” glasses, but we/they need to focus on the offense.

Slowey is doing his part, let’s see those runs!

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

romer…you mentioned “good beer”. Your were redundantdant….LOL

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Macleod,

i bet Honey Weiss will be there soon. It just got to NY state.

Jake Leinenkugel took us out drinking in Chippewa Falls a few years back.

drunk day

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

interesting strike zone. nothing inside, and outside balls called strikes

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Sounds to quite in the Dome, make some noise people.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Why does anyone throw a fastball outside to Joe Mauer? Just walk him…

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

nice job joey

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Mauer….2 fer 2, c’mon Morney!!!!!

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

nice battling by Maur. rest of team take note!

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Shawn,

#9 is toilet water spiced with cardamom. Uffda. I hate that stuff

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Now Morneau needs to hit the ball very hard and very far.

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

AJ was so mad he almost ran over the 1st base ump.

I saw that and thought it looked like he was looking to give a shot to Slowey.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Morneau is due …

Louie says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Up to .329 Pedroia at .326

TwinsFix says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Excellent example of Mauer being Mauer there. Working the count, allowing his teammates to see Floyd’s full arsenal of pitches, getting his pitch count up, sitting on a pitch, and dropping it to left field for a single.

2008 batting champion?

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

I, along with many, said the M & M boys needed to play big tonight. Mauer’s doing his part. Your turn MVP!

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:54 pm

Hey TCfan….Mike Reilly, plate ump, is known for this, but he is consistent.

Louie says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Come ON Morny.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

I hate it when FSN does that behind the plate view. It is a replay view, not a LIVE view.

TwinsFix says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Got him on the changeup…

TwinsFix says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Come on Span/Kubel, what have us pundits been preaching all year? Patience!

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

49-30

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:57 pm

Ok, fans, let’s all refill our beverages of choice, make the bladder gladder, and be back and cheer on the SlowMan for another perfect inning. LET’S GO TWINS!!!!!!!!!!

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Stop this behind the plate madness!

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

yeap, Floyd is up to 49 pitches, and his splits show that his limit is really 75. After 75 expect major suckage for him…

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

It’s tense knowning they’re just a homer away. Come on Slowey.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

Nice pitch by Slowey

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Can’t be giving up homeruns to Orlando freakin Cabrera.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Thanks, Buckwheat.

:)>

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Tried it again against Orlando and he hits it a little farther. Come on Slowey, be smart out there.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Why oh why couldn’t the radio guys shut up about the no-hitter?

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

He’s been going to the 4-seamer well too much now.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

where is that freaking plexiglass wall at the LF when you need it?

TwinsFix says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Buckwheat,

You forgot to knock on wood. Thanks for that Cabrera homer.

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

OK, settle down SlowMan….nothing hurt…get the DP now….

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

It’s now a little less tense.

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Fool me once, not fool me twice on the same things.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

Ok. I’ll shut up. I’m going to get some supper.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

Heatnonator (hereinafter “HEAT”), Slowey has a 1-hitter after 3-1/3.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:03 pm

talk to each other!

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:03 pm

I’m guessing Gomez didn’t yell loud enough.

David says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:03 pm

That is 1 you do not play for 1 run in the 1st inning against a team that scores most of it’s run by the home run.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:03 pm

WTF was that!!??

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:03 pm

Span’s ball all the way. Way to be super-man gomez.

David says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Should say why you do not.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Casilla was bunting for a hit it wasn’t a straight sac.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

what a mistake by Span

Heatonator says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

I’m listening on the radio. What just happened?

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Gomez tried to do too much that time, Span’s ball.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

rookie mistake

BayAreaTwinsFan says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

That’s what you get when your OF’s can cover so much ground.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Could be the season……..ya never know.

Koomer’s full of s**t, the crowd was not loud as the ball came down.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

gatty,

the CF has priority in every fly ball at the OF… Gomez called it. Span should have ducked.

TwinsFix says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

It’s all falling to pieces.

I think it’s time for another crucial strikeout and Gomez catch. Anyone else?

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Slowey needs to get a K here.

Get out of this mess and the bats need to come out of the freezer.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Hmm, easy play Vs. hard play. I know Gomez had a right to the ball, but Span had the easier play

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Span may have been close but Gomez is the CF if he can get there its his. Tough break. Both were yelling so its obvious Coom isn’t full of anything and it was too loud to hear.

The New and Imroved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Morneau and Kubel are over-swinging. They are playing low percentage baseball with those big swings.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Free run for the White Sox. Hopefully it is only one free run.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:08 pm

So can you do an E8 as an official scorer on that one?

David says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Be carefull with Jr.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

You are all right about it appearing to be Gomez’s ball, but I did see Gomez point to himself as if saying his fault … don’t necessarily know why … but he did.

Crain Suck says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

is this the end

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:10 pm

That sure looked like a FB. Only 82 and rising.

2-1 whiners.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Yeah it was Gomez’s fault since Span had the ball in his glove.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Tough when you have to get 5 outs.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Are you freaking kidding me Buscher?

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

wtf

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

why does Buscher get to play?

he can’t field

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Time for some chin music. You know GD well AJ and his pitchers would do it.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Argh. How quickly things can change in this game.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

there goes Butcher…

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

So far, 6 more pitches for slowey and 2 free runs. The difference between this game and the last two games is the defense. Bad defense loses games.

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Butcher! Small ball in reverse killing htem.

The New and Imroved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

The Twins Achilles heal. They can’t field.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

No it was Spans fault because he isn’t the CF. He needs to get out of the way and let Gomez have it.

Louie says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Come on guys pull it together

The New and Imroved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

heel

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Why are their no errors?

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

No Gardy!

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Good question, Nora. Both should have been imo.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Cmon Slowey stop the bleeding. Pick up your teammate for giving you crappy defense and he’ll make up for it with his bat (hopefully)

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Really? Our defense sucks so lets get Guerrier up. Wow.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Get bent Gardy. If you think that relieving Slowey with Guerrier is a good idea, that is too bad.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:15 pm

NO Guerrier

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:15 pm

Does anyone, even his family, want Matt Gueirrer to pitch in this series?

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:15 pm

Is the idiot warming Guerrier of all people?

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

So if Uribe hits HR here and all of a sudden its 7-1 you don’t want someone ready?

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

There’s the chin music at just the wrong time. If he can’t get the fifth out, this game is over.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

About TIME! Quicker than giving him the intentional unintentional.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Would have been nice if he had gotten him in the ribs and done so on the first pitch.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

did he swing himself right into that pitch?

The New and Imroved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Taking charge in CF doesn’t include plowing into the corner guys when they are about to make a routine catch.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

that was about a foot too low

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

what in the heck is going on. let him get out of it, its not like they opened up the floodgates on him! way to instill confidence in supposedly your number 3 starter for the playoffs by yanking him when he gives up a measly 3 runs (2 of which were not his fault).

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Settle down Slowey. Alot of us don’t like AJ but this was not the time to hit him.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

And that very well maybe the season.

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Ballgame

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

5-1 Sox.

1-1/2 games out. Twins need to sweep KC. Don’t think the Sox can sweep Cleveland.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

OK, see you later then.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

6 more ups, with their pitcher throwing a lot of pitches. Get it together and come back.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

ok i spoke too soon…but hitting AJ doesn’t make it better Slowey

Louie says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

IT’S NOT OVER TILL IT’S OVER!!!!!!!! COME ON!!!!!!!!!

The New and Improved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Poor Slowey. The fielding collapses. He deserved better.

OhOh says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

6-1. Yep, the season boiled down to this inning.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Wow. What a disaster of an inning. As people have said ‘wtf was that’ inning.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

Twins gone! Youth at its best. See ya next year. So sad, too bad.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

I wanna eat crow, but the Twins bats seem to have hibernated like they did last night.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

damn, typical minnesota sports team. when things are working they eff it up.

Shawn in Binghamton says:

i fell off my stool

Willie Norwood says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

Just got back from out of the country for the past two weeks. I was looking forward to seeing this game tonight. Ooof.

It’s not what I hoped to see.

Um, Matt Guerrier? WTF?

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

Just got back from Wendy’s and walked over about ten people who just fell off the bandwagon.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

Buscher looked like a cow running for that ball and poor Slowey slipped while trying to throw. Keystone Cops stuff!!

Bluto says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

This game is over and that is too bad. We were so close to the division lead. Looks like Slowey might have fractured his arm by his reaction to it. Bad defense loses games. Sad for it to end like this, but at least it was swift and painless. Well, not for Slowey…

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

And the fact the Gas Can is in looks like Gardy is conceding…gulp.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

Goodbye then TC fan.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

No possible way the Twins can score more than six runs against the Sox. In fact they haven’t scored six+ since, uh, Tuesday.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Bluto,

it was the Japanese…

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

The was NOT a playoff team performance. No way, no how, not this team. Let the Angels reign, if the Twins don’t!!!

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

bye nora, where you going?

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Might as well give up the DH, put Kubel in right……use Ruiz, and Cuddy, and Red as pinch hitters for the pitcher.

The New and Improved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Great hitting, good pitching, good speed, awful fielding. The 2008 Twins.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

I’m not going anywhere but it sounded like you were. LOL

This is Guerrier’s audition for next season.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

6 runs 6 innings. More than doable. Let’s go get them

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

6 more times at the plate people! Keep your “it’s over” talk for after the game. Or, believe in this team, and we won’t say it at all. White Sox. Crappy bullpen. Come on! Who’s with me?!

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Oh, I didn’t know that Vazquez is going to replace Gavin Floyd. The Twins will score all the runs they need easily now…

arschlach says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

Rookie mistakes all the way.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

Really hope Slowey didn’t break anything.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Great job by Guerrier stopping the bleeding. this game isn’t over yet, but its not looking good.

BayAreaTwinsFan says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

“Delmon Young takes strike one.” I don’t think I’ve ever heard that before.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

romer,

Span was not the problem. That was a fluke (as it was the ball off Slowey’s arm). However, Butcher cannot field. Period. He should be benched.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Twins can overcome this but Twins pitching has to put up zeros the rest of the game.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

You should here the ChiSox announcers - it’s like Christmas came early!!!!!!!

zwiefz says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

I can’t watch the game so I don’t know how bad the defense was. I will say this though….RELAX.

1)This is a young team and mistakes are going to be made. You don’t have to like it but it’s not the end of the world either

2)Did everyone really expect the White Sox to roll over and play dead? They have been in first all season for a reason-they’re a pretty good team. I’m pretty sure they have pride and want to make the playoffs as much as the Twins.

I hope the Twins make the playoffs, but no matter what happens tonight or this weekend, I’m going to call this season a success and look forward to the next few years.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

15 extra pitches for Slowey, and 5 free runs.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

“…they haven’t scored six+ since, uh, Tuesday.”

Ha-ha, eaa. I needed that.

Remember, Sox pen is crap.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

well, we were handing out gifts

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

There is always the White Sox bullpen.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Will be glad when the Twins get out of that hell hole of a place - puts me to sleep and screws up outfielders, like it did Span when it counted

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

It is easy to stop the bleeding when the victim has already bled to death…

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Stop being realistic and mature, zwiefz.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

up by 5 and he walked Buscher. There is hope!

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

The biggest homer broadcaster ever: ‘Haw’

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

I meant ‘Hawk’ LOL

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

We need to get Floyd out of here soon.

mkinnc says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

Thrylos, “Bluto” was tossing out an Animal House reference.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

So Cal - Tell me if I’m wrong but the Dome difficulties never used to affect Twins OF’s - probably cuz they were more experienced than now- but it always seemed to be the visitors that were thrown off in earlier days and it was a huge advantage. Lately its been 50/50.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

He gone!!! arghhhh

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Slowey out. Won’t pitch next Tues.

Bullmoose says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Man did the wheels fall off the Twins bus fast!

JP says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Man on base.

Punto is worthless.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Good job by Punto to at least drive up the pitc count.

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Nice!!!!

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

2 of the fielding gaffes somewhat made up for. Span can help some more.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

I believe!

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Holy crap…could it be?

The New and Improved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Bring home that runner, Span.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

We have a NEW group (in the most part) and they still do not have a hang of it at the HunptyDumptyDome

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Was hopin’ Punto would bunt with 2 outs. It woulda worked.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Now Span needs to do his part and get Gomez in.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm

span needs to make up for last at bat now.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm

Steal home Gomez.

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm

Man do Go-Go’s swings look a lot more under control tonight. Nice hit. Better late than never.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm

he’ll be lucky to go 5. then it’s sox bullpen time

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:33 pm

i know gardy hates when they do it, but a twins homerun would be nice here.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

WILD PITCH PLEASE!

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

GOD DID WE NEED THAAAAAAT LUCK!!!

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

We’re in business boys (and girls).

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Oh my…

BayAreaTwinsFan says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

:)

The New and Improved Craig says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Bring home that runner, Casilla

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Come on Casilla..do something good.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Clutch by gomez!

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

How about 8-6 Twins win?

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Casilla can go deep

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

GO SPAN

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Maybe a homer” call by the ump on the Span double.

6-3 palehose.

Biggest AB of Casilla’s life.

DAMN!! He smacks another one towards first. And he’s out but one of these times he’s gonna get a triple out of that.

BayAreaTwinsFan says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Almost another run.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

ChiSox announcers: We score 6 and they come back with 2. . . they’re back in it. They also are complaining that Span’s bloop double was foul and kept replaying it.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

So, Boof is available? Everybody, right?

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

5 innings, 4 runs…

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Good bottom half.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

one more there would have been nice. now we need to see the pitching out of the pen that they got last night.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

Da** it Casilla…

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

Sox announcers don’t do that when the breaks go the other way. It all evens out in the end.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

That double by span was a micro meter fair. Tough luck on the Casilla ball.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

75 pitches by Floyd in only 4 innings.

mkinnc says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

And just like that things are beginning to look up.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Bottom of the 5th will be telling. Big at bat for Morneau coming up.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

Well, top of the innings will be telling as well.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

Reyes…Really?

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Well, I gotta go. Good luck Twins and put all your good thoughts together and put that energy into a VICTORY!!

[A loss tonight will require Divine intervention or something close to that!]

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Actually the big inning is Matt getting thru the 5th. It’s like holding a match over gas stove.

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Just should not have him pitch this game if at all possible. Guerrier has little to nothing left.

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

We’re going to pay for that.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

“OK, everybody 32 and younger have a swig of JD and relax already.” (Gardy in the dugout.)

mkinnc says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

If Shag can just get by with the little he does have, Nora…

mkinnc says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

…or we could just go to Dennys. That works, too.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

ugh 2 walks in a row; can he get konerko to ground into a DP?

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

we are going to pay for bringing reyes in. he will wild pitch the runner in from third.

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

Any chance this defense is due to nerves? Remember how many times during July and August they got to 1/2 game up or down and then immediately gave it back? Rushing byt Butch and Lexi, bad communication with Span & Go-Go. Just make the plays and give yourself to get to their bullpen.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

this game has nothing to do with our pitching. in reality 3 botched plays, but zero errors on the stat sheet.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

I refuse, still, to criticize any Twins player. They got us all to a place we shouldn’t be anywhere near.

Yeah, it was the easist DP of the year.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

I meant, “Everybody 23 years and younger…”

Crain Suck says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

just no CRAIN

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Ok no more Reyes bashing for tonight. NONE

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Yum yum…thanks for the crow Reyes!

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

HE GONE!

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

ADDA BOY!

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Big Sweat mops up Gas Can’s mess.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

So they made it through with Matty G. Can we now be happy about that fact?

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Should still be 1-1 tie.

Next inning won’t be easy either with Ramirez and AJ coming.

6-3 whiners after 4-1/2.

mkinnc says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

And thus did Reyes fulfill the esteemed role of the LOOGY.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

If Lee doesn’t pitch for Cleveland on Sunday than Halladay should get the Cy.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

sometimes it is good to be wrong.

Bullmoose says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

rally caps

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:53 pm

From the article on MLB.com it looks to me that Lee will almost certainly pitch if there is a race.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Morneau needs to come through here.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Sorry, but the freaking dome is like a mausoleum when the Twins are AB… what is that all about?

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

I was at the game on Tuesday and I didn’t think that was the case.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

great night for mauer, can morneau follow up?

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Yuck

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Doc looks burned out.

Kubel, remember these are the White Sox-u like to homer off them.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

…never mind…

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

LET’S GO DYOUNGER!!!!!

Nora says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Morneau not having a good series. Does HE have anything left?

wipron says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Wouldn’t it be nice if “MVP” could do SOMETHING in the biggest series of the year?

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Delmon 3-run homer

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Delmon, go deep and I take back everything I said about you this season.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

please, please, please delmon - patience, have a good at bat.

Skips Scramble says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

We need to tag him for at least two and knock him out right now.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

If Delmon homers here, does that make up for his year of “good average, but where is the power?”

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Get some runs and get Gavin out of here.

Razz says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Come on “Three Run Jack Young”!!!

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

the first game seemed much louder…. and the least populated to boot.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

I’ll take a hit..no DP.

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

and the least populated to boot.

Nine runs will do that.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Pitching coach told him not to throw the fastball and he didn’t

Razz says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Wow…not one of those was a strike…

JP says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Buscher gets a chance to atone.

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Did he even come close to throwing a strike to him. That’s the Delmon I know.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Buscher needs to redeem himself here in a big way.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

MVP should use a wheelchair and a handicap-access van when traveling, using a chauffer……and receive housecall massage therapy on his legs at night and in the morning.

Serious.

Wanna win the Division or not?

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

it seemed loud the whole game

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Butcher better make it happen now, otherwise he better ride the pine until the end of the season before he is released

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Not to be- Buscher chokes.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

get in there harris!

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

Thyrlos weren’t you on Gardy’s case last night here for burying guys on the bench (Everett)? Yes, there are just a few games left so its a bot different but isn’t that what you are suggesting?

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

The coaches better be chattering and teaching in the dugout. Span, Punto, Casilla coulda bunted recently….for surprise effect etc.

Did anyone bend Delmon’s ear and remind him that a good pitcher like Floyd would slow the game down and pitch him garbage?

Be a BIG BULLDOG, BOOF!!!

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

twins need to stop wasting those scoring opportunities

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Yeah, the luck turns!!

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Man, he’s still an MVP ond D!!!!1

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

At least MVP can still bail Buscher’s ass out in the field.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

Morneau will probably get two more AB, so he can still come through offensively.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

It is too bad that the defense wilted because the pitching staff has looked good tonight.

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

what the heck is buscher doing out there still? get him out!

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:09 pm

eaa,

I am suggesting that the manager of the millennium better give messages. Buscher sucked in defense all season. After the non-play earlier he should have been out… But Gardy rarely does that. And frankly, if I were Gardy, I would put Harris in at 3rd and Everett at SS, moving Punto to second, after those mistakes by Buscher and Casilla…

That’s all I am saying

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

BOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFF!

JP says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

I will love you punto for the entire rest of the night, if you lead off with a basehit or walk.

please! pretty please?

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Both teams next 1/2 innings are coming with some good offense possibility:

Whiners will have top of the order.

Twins have the MadDog track team.

Has Justin ever choked up on the bat?

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

Floyd needs to be pulled this inning if the twins have any wish of salvaging this game.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

Biggest AB for Go-Go this year. Atonement baby!!

JP says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

Punto is worthless.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Ok … (I don’t think he’s manager of the millenium actually) … agree on BB’s D and I was surprised to see him there tonight. But you would yank Casilla mid-game? Really? For Punto and Everett? I know you are a stat guy but I think that’s a tough sell. I’d be curious as to how this board would react if that happened.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Wise almost breaks his neck.

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

That guy should be in AAA.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Man he hit the wall hard, ouch. Span needs to calm down and have a good at bat.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Gomez wants to make up for his mistake,

GET HIM HOME!

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

I telling, Gomez has a different looking swing tonight. I love it.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

you know what, Gomez played his heart out this game…

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Do your job Span and get him home.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Chip, chip, chipping away.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Floyd’s a good fielder. Still, keep comin’ at him Alexi.

LET’s GO!!!

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Who was the guy that slammed into the wall in left and the next day someone put an outline of him on the wall?

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

WE SCORED!!!!IT’S MILLER TIME, GANG, LET’S FIRE UP….

... says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Span was safe, should have 1st and 3rd with one out.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

And here comes Mr. Chip for the Blacksox. (chip on the shoulder, get it?)

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Here’s your chance guys!!! C’mon Chairman.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

i think the outline guy was rondell white when he was with texas.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

If Mauer gets any kind of hit I think Bremer will have a heart attack.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

A bloop and a blast would be a nice gesture from the Sox bullpen…

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Did anyone else happen to be at a Twins/Jays game in ‘92 when the Twins just shelled Jack Morris and they played “Hit the Raod Jack” as he stormed off the mound? The momentum of this moment reminded me of that for some reason.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Do ya start with Boof next inning?

Is this the best batter in history? A battered catcher/batter about to win his second title? In his hometown…….now hitting .331!

Fran says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Butch Huskey was the outline on the wall guy.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

And mauer rolls over on the ball immediately…

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

JP….ZIP IT SHUT!!!!!!!!!!!

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Ok Mauer…that totally sucked.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Mauer needs a shot of that JD too.

Ouch!

Patience, Twins………..

kirby91 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Since when does he swing at the first pitch? Especially by a new pitcher! Damn

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:21 pm

3 innings, 3 runs

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:21 pm

romer - I like it - but no.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:21 pm

That sucked big time. Our two out hitting has not been good this game. Maybe Morneau will be relaxed leading off next inning.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

mauer never swings at first pitch, why there?

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

JP…why don’t you go join jmarksor or bostonrob with your worthless jargon!!!!!!!!!!!

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Crain or the Drain? We shall see.

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

atta boy Casilla…nice snag!!!!

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Great play by Casilla.
Crain really grooved one there…

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

ok Casilla redeemed himself

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

Butcher still at 3rd, mind ya

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Gomez and Casilla back in the game.

Who will bat for Buscher?

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

I hope that Bad Crain will induce a DP ball and not groove one…

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Dick is freaking out about the change in time…

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Who will bat for Buscher?

take your pick… 0 for 2 with a walk so far. Cuddyer, Ruiz, Pridie, Tolbert

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

DrDon, having a brat&Bun with mayo on it — just like the rads. (I’m German-American……tastes good.)

Another St. Pauli Girl. I’m a man of meager means. Only drinking the good stuff cuz the kids visited a couple weeks ago and brought some down.

The “Girl” has produced 3 runs so far.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Why is Cabrera stealing, he is already in scoring position with two outs…

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

Slow it down!! Keep throwing him JUNK!!!!

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Walk him if you have to.

Goddam that was a strike. EASILY!!!!!!!!!

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

romer,

the problem is that Crain doesn’t have any junk. Straight 4 seamer or moving slider… you wan junk, you bring Breslow in

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Nice work by LNP. Lots of time for Konerko.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Simply put, the twins score in this next inning, they win the game.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Is Punto the only player who hasn’t booted a ball tonight?

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Should be 4-1 Twins.

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:34 pm

3 innings, 3 runs

Razz says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:34 pm

Let’s get 3 here and then lean on Mijares and Nathan!

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

Macleaod,

only Buscher, Casilla, Span and Slowey booted balls tonight…

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

Runs Twins Runs.

“MVP” needs to do something valuable here.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

Morneau’s MVP hopes are nose diving.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

dang it

Bullmoose says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Geez, Gardy’s living on the edge

DrDon says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

romer….sounds great, got good kraut to go with the brats???? Had my grilled tuna tonight with special cream sauce, veggies of course, now time for some Bush’s beans and sausages for snack…beats the hell out of dome dogs, and they are still good!!!! C’mon guys, my Miller is empty, need to score, so I can refresh….

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

No offense, but let’s get 1 here and 1 next inning and rely on Mijares and Nathan.

And get 1 in the bott 9th…

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Poor at bats in a key seventh inning can also contribute to a loss…

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Cuddy just wanted to make it quick and painless.

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Let’s see, I haven’t played all year. I think I’ll swing away without seeing any pitches at all! Damn it Cuddy!

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

there goes Cuddy and there goes Gardy…

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

Delmon do something!

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

why no patience with thornton. look at a few pitches.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

“only Buscher, Casilla, Span and Slowey booted balls tonight…”

Get real, thrylos. Only Lexi and Buscher…..

matt says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

what a horrible game for morneau (besides that nice snag at first); his AB’s have been absolutely hurrendous

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Wow, just wow.

I hate the sox even more says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

and there goes the season.

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Very bad inning. Thorton will be back in the eight and then we get Jenks.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Okay, it will take a small miracle for the Twins to score two runs late in this game.

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

I’d give him Span, actually, but not Slowey. Yes, an error but there were a few other circumstances on that play.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

Oops, forgot to eat my salad. Here I go….

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

If the Sox get the Doughboy out there in the 9th, I think it’s over.

Twins looked defeated right now.

TC fan in LA says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

3 of the most important at bats of the season and that is the best they can do?

thrylos98 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

romer,

if Slowey kept that ball instead of throwing it to the sox pen, it would be 1 instead of 3 runs scored. And if Span let his CF catch that fly, Thome would have been out.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

The ump needs to stop moving his head when deciding whether a ball is a strike or a ball

Macleod says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

1 bad inning out of 27! Two more chances boys.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

I don’t like Breslow vs Ramirez

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Whew!!

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

Breslow has been good lately, knock on wood (AJ’s head).

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

Any Jenks up in the pen yet?

eaa says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

Win or lose, that’s fun to see.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

This game will boil down to the next handful of at bats. Time for some Metrodome magic…

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

Breslow rules!! Maybe the Twins should let him bat.

romer says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

You’re right thrylos…….like you can coach that ahead of time. If you get shot, don’t pull the trigger 1.64 seconds later and mistakingly hit your own guy.

Louie says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:48 pm

28.36% chance of scoring 1+ runs!

One more time Gomez.

Shaun says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

Thought that was ball 4 Punto grounded out on.

Gomez vs. the Doughboy…

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

Louie says:

16.8% chance of scoring 2+ runs!

Buckwheat says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

Good time for Gomez to bunt with big boy on the mound.

gatty790 says:

September 25th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

I would love to see gomez connect on one of those wild swings. But I am sure he will try to bunt for a hit. Even with two outs…

WIN TWINS!

What a game! Another great effort from the bullpen. Gardy deserves credit for managing a hell of a game tonight. Now we just have to keep up the intensity and can’t feel like we’re already in the playoffs. We have to play with the same sense of urgency and can’t take the Royals lightly.

Three calm analytical points:

1) Those calling for Nathan all year long in the 8th cuz he ain’t worth his money unless he puts in all the extra innings, blah-blah-blah, can now eat crow. He’s got the strength to go 2 now…..THANK GOD.

2) “Rookie-in-the-world-series” phenomenon. We got three of those “rookies” — Span, Casilla, Gomez….with a close runner-up in Young. Can-do, people!!

3) Mauer continues to marvelously hit, but not quite superbly tonight. Had a chance to win the game a time or two tonight. And he got banged up more per-game tonight behind the plate than Red did all last season. And he’s about to go “where no man has gone” —— TWICE! (An AL catcher winning the batting title. And even Star Trek didn’t repeat the same plot twice, right!?!!).

He’d be the team MVP for every franchise in baseball……..except the Twins…..because we got MVP!!!

Wake up, negativismo’s, or this joy will pass you by real frickin’ quick.

TwinsFix says:

September 25th, 2008 at 11:05 pm

If I wake up in the morning and receive a CBS Sports alert via email telling me that the Twins lost…I’ll believe it.

Seth said it perfectly: Unreal. Totally unreal.

I feel as if the Twins could take on the world, but this game was between two pretty bad teams. Outside of the AL Central it won’t be pretty.

But I won’t think about anything other than this game for a while. My heart is too fluttery.

Unreal. Unbelievable. Denard Span. Alexi Casilla. Carlos Gomez. The bullpen. Gardy.

Wow.

The Twins earned this one tonight, lttle by little they got back into it. Face it, the Whities are old and done for…..

“How can anyone provide calm analysis?”

You can call on your “calm” easier when you’re older, gatty. Plus the St. Pauli helps.

Just trying to call out the nattering negativity contributors here.

This really is the beginning of dynasty here. These are Gardy’s boys. Did you see him with tears in his presser just now describing Gomez and his totally positive spirit this year? This stuff goes deep.

It’s a deep well, not one bought with money. And they went WAY DEEP tonight and pulled up the victory from way inside them.

It’s a damn hard shame that Buscher doesn’t have better D. A man can only do what with the gifts he’s got. And he gives 100%. It’s the only thing missing (assuming Neshek returns) on this squad. They need no changes for next year.

That’s the face of dynasty.

romer,
“They need no changes for next year.”

Are you saying that the Beltre trade is off the table?

43,601 at the game. If they had said 55,000 I would have believed it…

TC fan in LA, you are right about Morneau, he had a tough night but has saved many a game for this team. He’ll pick it up this weekend, glad to see those “speed guys” do their thing, that includes Punto who coaxed the walk out of Jenks. Too bad Cuddyer hasn’t done much, best to leave him off the field I think. Kubel not so good tonight, but he had a nice game Monday. It’s good to see them pick each other up and the bullpen? Wow,it’s that dome field advantage working it’s magic!

“Ozzie just said he is going to have a couple sleeping pills with his vodka. I would have have just the bottle…”

Don’t know what kind of sleeping pills he’s taking, but for those of you older than me, that’s how Dorothy Kilgallen died way back (celebrity).

And for those of you my age or younger, that’s how Jimi Hendrix died……a few beers and when he went home he took a barbituate. And then, he was s**t on a shingle (peuked in his sleep).

Lotsa luck, Ozzie.

“Are you saying that the Beltre trade is off the table?”

Sorry, I had a one-word omission. Should have said “They need no OTHER changes for next year.”

Seriously.

This beer-drinking makes me serious. Gonna change doctors. Vodka or whiskey?

Hell, it’s whiskey…..my favorite.

Hey, maybe Souhan can write something like this —

Two hearts collided in right-center tonight. Result? Dropped ball.

Then, two BIG hearts round the bases in record tandem time. Result? DrDon drink’s to HIS heart’s content.

Yowzah!!!

Wow! What a game! Just got home. Haven’t seen or heard anything like it since 1987.

Air kind of got sucked out of the crowd with the 6 run inning. Thankfully we got 2 back right away and we were back at it. The crowd was not willing to accept a loss. That game was willed to be won.

Young guns got it done again. Wow that was fun.

Thanks son, for inviting me along tonight. That was something else. Didn’t even mind the 30 minutes to get out of the ramp.

Just got done reading a ton of posts on the Sox blogs: Besides the hundreds of “F” bombs, the overall concensus is that they hate Gomez and Punto. Yes, they hate Punto. So many Twins fans hate Punto for no solid reason. Sox fans hate Punto because he just helped this team sweep the Sox all week long baby! Now it is on to Puntober and the playoffs! After we beat K.C.

It took you 30 minutes to get out of the ramp? How did you get out so fast? You didn’t drive off the edge did you?

Hey gatty,
Yep, just 30 minutes.

Ears are still ringing or I would be in bed. Hope the boys don’t celebrate too much. We need to do it all over again tomorrow. Man that was fun. Gomez and Span 7 for 10 with 3 triples. That was fun watching them run around the bases. OK, time to try to sleep.

My twin sisters will be at the game tomorrow. They bring incredible luck with them wherever they go.

It’s Saturday I’m worried about. The early start. Guys might be emotionally drained.

Anybody gonna watch the replay tomorrow? I wonder which part of the game they’ll eliminate “due to time considerations”. But, it will be a blast anyway.
