Saturday pregame: Twins/Royals

Posted on September 27th, 2008 – 12:05 PM
By Joe Christensen

I’ll post the lineups here and send updates as they come.

Update (12:10 p.m.): The Royals are a major league best 35-24 in games started by lefthanded pitchers heading into today’s start by LHP Glen Perkins.

Royals RHP Gil Meche is 10-3 with a 3.16 ERA since June 10.

Update (12:45 p.m.): The Angels clinched the American League’s best record on Friday night and opted to begin the ALDS on Wednesday.

That means, if the Twins reach the playoffs, they will open on Thursday at Tampa Bay. The Angels will play the Red Sox. (Corrected from earlier, as the Rays officially clinched the AL East title on Friday.)

(*) Kevin Slowey said his right wrist is less sore but more stiff today. “Not as painful, but decreased mobility,” he said.

If the Twins have to play a one-game playoff with the White Sox on Tuesday, Slowey would be doubtful to make that start. However, the Twins are hopeful that he’ll be ready to make a start by Game 3 of a potential playoff series.

Once the swelling subsides, Slowey should be able to start playing catch and go from there.

(*) Brian Buscher has the flu, so Brendan Harris is at third base.

Update (6:10 p.m.): Cleveland pitcher Cliff Lee has been scratched from Sunday’s start against the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune. Bryan Bullington will pitch in Lee’s place.

Royals (74-86)

1. Mike Aviles, SS
2. Alberto Callaspo, 2B
3. Jose Guillen, RF
4. Ryan Shealy, 1B
5. Mark Teahen, LF
6. Billy Butler, DH
7. Alex Gordon, 3B
8. John Buck, C
9. Mitch Maier, CF

Starting pitcher: Gil Meche (13-11, 4.05 ERA)

Twins (87-73)

1. Denard Span, RF
2. Alexi Casilla, 2B
3. Joe Mauer, C
4. Justin Morneau, 1B
5. Jason Kubel, DH
6. Delmon Young, LF
7. Brendan Harris, 3B
8. Nick Punto, SS
9. Carlos Gomez, CF

Starting pitcher: LH Glen Perkins (12-4, 4.50)

Metrodome. First pitch: 2:55 p.m.

Glen Perkins owes it to MN Twins fans to pitch well today.

bufftwins says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:15 pm

We really need this one today. Perkins vs. Meche. I’m worried to say the least. Morneau needs to start taking some better swings.

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:16 pm

He absolutely has to pitch well today.

Any word on when the Homer Hankies are coming out? The other day LaVelle wrote that they had been ordered.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:27 pm

I predict that Perkins will be on his game today, our Twins MadDog Junkyard Mutts will fight and scrap and win this one. GO PUPS!!!!! WIN TWINS!!!!!!!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

Perkins should be on the shortest leash of his life, given the Royals’ excellent record against lefties this year. Thanks for the stat, Joe C. The Twins lucked out when they didn’t put Blackburn on a short-enough leash.

I hope Boof is prewarmed up a la Broadway during the Vasquez start. Gardy better be playing this like game 7 of the WS.

Do NOT want to play a tiebreaker on Tues in Chic. We have no starting pitcher for that game. (Humber!!?)

The Dr is in the house……..

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

I’m thinking I want Gomez in the 2 hole. I love Casilla, but he’s in the standard MLB slump right now.

Actually, I’m thinking Gomez might lead off. Too radical though.

All to say, bunt-bunt-bunt. Push Meche into another state of mind.

And THANK YOU INDIANS for POUNDING the palehose last night as requested by your truly.

I missed the game last night cuz of work. Twins always lose when I miss the game.

THANK YOU FOX for airing the game today. I’ll be glued. Tomorrow too.

Not to worry.

Gardy, keep the leash nice and tight on MadDog Perk!!!

If Tampa and Boston tie, who’s the WC?

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

ugh,

no thank you fox… i will have to listen in my car

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:49 pm

Tampa is the division champ

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:55 pm

gophers have mostly been competitive today

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 27th, 2008 at 12:57 pm

mostly

Heatonator says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:16 pm

How long does Perk last? 4 or 5?

Wade says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Brandon Duckworth owes it to baseball to pitch like his usual mediocre self Sunday, starting in place of Zack Greinke.

Ole says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:22 pm

“”Do NOT want to play a tiebreaker on Tues in Chic. We have no starting pitcher for that game. (Humber!!?)”"

Um Blackburn?

He’d get the start if Slowey isn’t ready, but it sounds like there is a slight chance he may be. Blackburn would be on 5 days rest for that Tuesday playoff.

Little Miss Sarcasm says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Slowey is a gamer, if he can grip the ball and throw it with some sort of control he will take the mound on Tuesday if needed…. but it would be nicer if he does that in say game one of the ALDS

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Anna,

You won’t see any Homer Hankies unless the Twins make the playoffs. Been the way they’ve done it since 2002.

Aaron says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:29 pm

“Um Blackburn?”

Um…automatic loss. Blackburn is a glorified Kyle Lohse at home and a glorified Sean Bergmann on the road.

P.O.S.

Ole says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:31 pm

This afternoons Twins game is going to decide everything i think. The Royals have a clear cut pitching advantage in this one, and the Sox have the same advantage in tonights game(although Vasquez is on 3 days rest).

Given our game will be over before the Sox game even starts, this game takes on even more importance. Win and you put a ton of pressure on the Sox, it turns into a must win for them. However if we lose it will put even more fire under there belt, and probably relax them a bit.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:32 pm

“Um Blackburn?”

It’s a possibility that Blackie is our 5th start these days, if Perkins comes back strong today.

I don’t want the tiebreaker.

Have to win these 2, and hope for a split in Chicago.

Last hope, of course, is Leland can beat Ozzie Monday. Man, that WOULD be fun to watch…..

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

5th starter, not 5th start.

juanie says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:36 pm

Twins badly need a win this afternoon to put some pressure on the ChiSux who play a night game.

I don’t want any part of a Tues game in Chicago. Let’s take care of business today and tomorrow, Twins. I guarantee Cleveland will win at least one of the remaining two in Chicago.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:38 pm

We need this win today Glen, lets rebound from the last two outings.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:41 pm

if we can move up 1.5 games today, we can do no worse than a tie. Lets at least clinch that.

Hopefully Lee goes for the Indians tomorrow. The White Sox COULD have some trouble because they’re pitching Vazquez and Buhrele on three-days rest.

Ole says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:44 pm

““Um Blackburn?”

Um…automatic loss. Blackburn is a glorified Kyle Lohse at home and a glorified Sean Bergmann on the road.”

Blackburn has given up more then 3 runs 3 times in his last 16 starts, i wouldn’t call him starting an automatic loss. Of course if Slowey is healthy you pitch him, but if he isn’t who else do you go with? You’d be lying if you said you’d rather have Humber or Bonser out there.

rayreiner says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:45 pm

From the perspective of Cleveland, they get a shot to score some more runs today. Vazquez on 3 days today, and Buehrle on 3 tomorrow (after 120 pitches Wed)…it all means the Tribe will have a good chance to plate some runs. Here’s hoping they have some guys playing with an eye toward next season and wanting to make a good impression. Go Tribe. Twins need Perk to throw good, and one guy to step up with the bat, and they’ll win today. Maybe Morneau breaks out today…

AaronK says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:52 pm

If we can get in, Baker and Liriano would be ready for Games 1 and 2. Plus Slowey should be ready for a Game 2 or 3…so pitching wise we would be setup very nicely.

I would go with Baker, Liriano, then Slowey

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:56 pm

I’d go with Baker and Liriano, then Slowey if he’s ready. Otherwise I’d go with Blackburn whenever we’re at HOME. I’d confident with him in the Dome.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:56 pm

First however, I’m hoping we can move 1.5 ahead today and clinch the tie. Then we’d control our destiny tomorrow.

Matt_ethec says:

September 27th, 2008 at 1:59 pm

The rays have already Clinched. Did so last night with a Yankee Loss.

Steve says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

“That means, if the Twins reach the playoffs, they will open on Thursday against the AL East winner. Tampa Bay’s magic number to clinch that division is one, so it’s looking like the AL Central winner will open at Tampa on Thursday.”

Am I missing something here? Last I checked, Tampa clinched the Divisional crown last night.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

Big game today, Twins’ fans. The chicken has been grilled, chilling now, and will have the cold chicken with ranch dip, some vegies (mainly brocolli and cauliflower), and plenty of the great health food from the grain group….GO MUTTS!!!!RUN PUPS!!!!WIN TWINS!!!!! and romer, getcher butt up to Moorhead soon!!!!!!!

JA says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

We need some energy today, they were pretty dead looking last night. A line-up shake-up might have been in order. Good to see Harris.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

There will be attendance taken today during the game blog….romer from Tracy, Craig from Fosston, DrDon from Moorhead, gaty from wherever, Kissy Krissy from wherever, macleod from wherever, and whomever else is interested from wherever….

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Morneau needs to heat back up for the final two games, hopefully Mauer will continue to hit and the speedsters will provide some energy.

Win out and we’ve done everything we can. We can’t control what the White Sox do.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

I said it earlier in the blog, and I will say it again…..Perkins will be on his game and our Twins’ MadDog Mutts will WIN!!!!!!!!!! GO PUPS!!!!WIN TWINS!!!!!!!

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

Perk needs to come out strong with a long outing. I hope we blow them away early with the offense. I’m really nervous and pumped for this to start.

Good thing it got moved up…

Biscuit says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

Said it before, say it again. The lethargy on the field last night was palpable. It wasn’t a letdown. It was a laydown.

Today: Sux win, Twins lose. Tomorrow means everything.

God. I hope I’m wrong.

AgateHunter'swife says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:18 pm

MadDog Junkyard Mutts
DrDon says you will win
Thanks Doc, no worries

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

Tomorrow wouldn’t mean everything though. If that happened, the Twins would be down by a half game and the Sox would control their season.

If both teams won tomorrow, they’d still be down a half game, and the Sox would need to simply beat Detroit on Monday to take it.

Plus, Garcia, a guy that hasn’t started in about a year, will take the mound for the Tigers.

I’m hoping the Twins come out strong today.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:21 pm

I agree with TwinsTerritory….time for Justin to carry the load these last two game….and the rest of the PUPS do their jobs so that can happen….

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:22 pm

If Morneau comes out hot and leads us to two more victories, there is no way he isn’t the MVP.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:24 pm

You got it AgateHunter’swife and AgateHunter agrees……..Let’s Go Get ‘em Perk…pitch like you did the day after your new pup was born….Twins Rule, White Sux Drool, and AJ is a jerk….WIN TWINS!!!!!

Jesse says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:25 pm

DrDon I am orginally from Hawley, MN. Moved to Bloomington in May. Went to the game last night, not too exciting.

Heatonator says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:26 pm

I’m here and I’m bringin the heat!

Let’s hope Perk does the same…

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Our magic number is “3″. We win today, Tribe beats White Sux today, down to “1″, then a win tomorrow for our young MadDog Mutts, and the division title belongs to the MINNESOTA TWINS PUPS!!!!!

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Hi Jesse, welcome to the blog…Good to see ya HEAT. Hey Jesse, my son lives in Farmington….and last night is over, today is the Day for our PUPS to rule!!!!!

TwinsTerritory says:

Buckwheat says:

Vintange Santana today: 7 ip, 2 hits and 0 runs. That’s exactly what the Mets needed. Swivelhead Perkins, can you emulate your mentor today? Go Twins.

Jesse says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

DrDon, you are right, I bought my playoff tickets yesterday, so I am ready.

DrDon says:

Shawn in Binghamton says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:51 pm

cubs here too, until the rain delay ends in Boston…. will have to go to the car to listen on XM at some point

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:54 pm

Hey! I went to MSU and was going to go to that game today vs Winona State. It’s Homecoming. Feel free to give updates.

Something more important came up, though!

Another way to look at things gang, is if we can win today, going into tonight, the Bad Guys will need to win THREE games, provided we win tomorrow. I think that’s a pretty tall order for them and they will feel the pressure.

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:56 pm

The Boston-NY game has absolutely NO bearing on anything. It is absurd they’d even be showing it to any part of the country.

But, that’s Bud Selig’s world.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

WE’RE GONNA WIN TWINS.
WE’RE GONNA SCORE!!!

Shawn in Binghamton says:

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:02 pm

Nice play Harris.

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

Sounded like a nice play by Harris.

Ok guys score score score!

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

Good start now we just need to figure out when he is going to hit the wall and pull him the inning before or better yet he could go 7 innings without melting down. But first lets tag Meche early and often.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

The game was a night one, but FOX wanted it because of it’s playoff implications.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

anyone here?????

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Santana just pitched a complete game 117 pitches on 3 days rest after pitching a career high 125 pitches on Tuesday. His era is now 2.53 lowest in the majors. Screw Lee. Ok I won’t mention Santana again.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:06 pm

My same thoughts, where is everybody today?

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:06 pm

That’s correct, TwinsTerritory….FOX changed that game time to air it on their national network…..

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Ok Twins lets do something here. Casilla steal?

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Johan about gave up a game-tying homerun on the last pitch, but got him.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Hey TwinsT….Hopefully at the Dome, I would be if I lived close….

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:08 pm

either steal or Hit and Run……

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Come on Mauer

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Listening to Gordo too of course.

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

Steal against uncle buck

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

Bert is on with FOX….good choice with his insight into a pitch by pitch account.

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Morneau hasn’t done anything in a week. Come on JMO

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

ROMER!!!! got the same here…radio, game on TV, the blog crew showing up….and Casilla no on third…..

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Right, DrDon. Listening to Bert too. My superstitions will keep the baseball gods happy.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Casilla sham-bluffing at 3B. Pitcher pitches ball into dirt.

That 89 mph cutter looks easy to hit for a single.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Radio is about 7 seconds ahead of the TV. I hear Gordo, and know what is going to happen. LOL

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Wow..terrible.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

What in the hell is going on with Morneau? He better figure it out if the Twins want to make it.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

That was a terrible strike 3 on Justin!!!!!!!!!!! Guess we get no help from umps today….I maintained long ago that MLB want WhiteSox to win division. Bummer!!!!!

AgateHunter'swife says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

I’ve got Cubs on fox here in the west.

DrDon, AgateHunter’s Wife checking in from Sutherlin, Oregon at the present. AgateHunter and I are full-time RVers and travel 365. Grew up in MPLS and get the Twins on Dish. Getting ready to head south.

Go Twins! Win Twins! Love our Twins!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

Morneau is tired. He usually will just at least try to faul that pitch off.

Wish he could’ve been DH a few games the past 2 weeks. No backup 1B?

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

There were a couple different bad strike calls in that inning.

Willie Nelson says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:17 pm

What is Morneau doing up there? That pitch was righ down the middle and he lets it go by, then bitches about it? Pathetic!

Willie Nelson says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

Looks like we can look forward to the Twinks making another guy look like Cy Young again, just like last night.

Buckwheat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

What has happened Morneau is the new Punto. Noooooooooooo!

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:19 pm

Keep it up PERK!!!!!

Heatonator says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:19 pm

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Is is too late to sign Scott Stohoviak to replace Morneau?

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:21 pm

Well I found a stream of the game online.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:22 pm

Perk is coming through.

Think the Twins will stop striking out?

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:24 pm

Hey Willie…If you can’t be positive please go visit jmarksor somewhere in FL. Same with Buck…Glad to hear from the AgateHunters….Let’s Go PUPS!!!!!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:24 pm

AgateHunter’swife, ever hang around Thompson Beach on the North Shore?

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

Shaun, Where is the stream that you found online at?

Ian says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

Way to go Kubes….but some will probably complain that you didn’t get to 3rd….C’mon Delmon!!!!!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

Shaun is happy…

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:28 pm

Way to go Brendan.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:28 pm

Too bad Casilla can’t get the flu too, so Tolbert could hit some doubles.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:29 pm

Right decision by Ulger.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

Now it’s time to GOGO!!!!!!!!!

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

romer???? this does NOT sound like you.

Heatonator says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:33 pm

I mean the flu comment about Casilla.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:34 pm

Shawn was here earlier….maybe he is getting lucky!!!! Anyway, back to the PUPS!!!! Now we hold KC again, LET’S KEEP IT UP PERK!!!!!!!!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:34 pm

Why does the FOX broadcast every Saturday sound like it’s being broadcast from outer space or something?

God, the TV broadcast in the 1950’s sounded better with PeeWee Reese and Dizzy Dean.

Prince Rupert sure runs a shabby business, doesn’t he.

Buscher and Casilla have been slumping a bit. Buscher getting sick is turning out to be a serendipitouus thing.

Nothing against Casilla. Just figured if he’s unable to play, then the YoungPup Tolbert would probably come in and hit for the cycle.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:38 pm

looks like the ump will call the high strike like he did on Justin…as long as Ump is the same for both, issss goooooodddd.

DrDon says:

romer says:

Hey Agate, Shawn is in Binghamton. That’s upstate NY. I know that because I was born there.

Glad you’re with us from WA?

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:59 pm

Still abiding by my pledge not to dis any Twins player. They can do no wrong:

We shouldn’t be anywhere near this pennant race with all the rookie-types we have.

But they’ve been excellent rookie types as a whole — Blackie, Lexi, Go-GO, Tolbert, Ruiz, Perk, Buscher, Young, Span, Mijares, Korecky. Yeah they’re not all rookies, but close to it.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 3:59 pm

funny comment Agate….re:DY, but no more the way DY is swinging the bat. And I do not pop one after every score….just each inning the PUPS score in….last night I had to borrow from the future. LOL. LET”S GO PERK!!!!! YESS!!!! good K!!!!

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

Dazzle just called Perkins, Slowey. That’s ok, I called Slowey, Tapani yesterday morning! I don’t know, for some reason he reminds me of Tapani, but he was a long time ago!

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

Shaun, is the feed really slow and does it keep stopping to buffer for you or not?

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Good post romer…..that is why things like this season, and this blog is so much fun. Gotta love it….LET’S GO PERK!!!!!!!!!!! yesssssss the big K

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Shawn, Perkins looks stronger and stronger after a so-so beginning. His high FB might as well be Nolan Ryan out there.

Heatonator says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:03 pm

Perk lookin good

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

“for some reason he reminds me of Tapani, ”

That’s the way I felt about Slowey last year………..first impression. Remember? He had kind of a big curve. They’ve taken that away from him.

That’s okay — it wasn’t as big as Slowey’s or Blyleven’s.

Hoof_Hearted says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

yay bremer was not on that call!!!

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:05 pm

I know Bert just said that Perkins arm wasn’t tired, but come on. There is a big difference in his pitching since he got that much needed rest.

MartinP says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

Bob: I´ve been watching the games through that site all season. The stream is usually a couple of minutes behind due to ocassional rebuffering. A lot of it depends on your connection speed, you need to have a high enough upload not to ruin the stream for the other viewers. Today is a great day because there are 3 streams of the Twins game at different quality and therefore connection speed required. If it´s buffering too much for you, try a different stream.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:07 pm

Thanks, DrDon. Wish I could pop one. Gotta do a show for a biker type’s BDay party tonight. Bringin’ the sherrif’s-line tape with me!

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:21 pm

gatty790 says:

At least the DP is still in order…

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

romer…Yes, and blueberries are also a member of the grain group, at least that is my philosophy….just no potato group, unless the original potato.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

I woulda brought in Reyes. Then Boof.

The Twins players can win it all this year. It all depends on how good Gardy is.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Half the lead is gone

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Potatoes for me only when I don’t have a banana, or I’m on the road.

That run was a given. Perk is struggling. Might be out of gas. Don’t know what Gardy leaves him in.

2-1 Twins. It’s your game, Gardy.

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Thanks, 2010.

Whew, now let’s get some runs!!!

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Nice job of keeping the damage to a minimum.

Willie Nelson says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Typical Perkins. Throw 4-5 innigns of good ball, then blow up. Next year he should be in the pen.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:25 pm

Somewhat surprised that Gomez didn’t try and throw the tank out at the plate. But they get out of the inning without losing the whole lead. Time for the offense to show up now…

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:25 pm

OK! OhhhhhhhhhKAY!!!!!

He can get his win now. Bring in the Boof. And let’s see some chin music, Mr. Bonsor.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:25 pm

OK…..got out of it still with the lead, now it is time for the MadDog JunkYard Mutts to cut loose!!!!LET’S GO PUPS!!!!!WIN TWINS!!!!! We need to score, as coozie is empty….hate to keep borrowing from the future, but will if I have to…:-)

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:27 pm

Come on don’t take strike three down the middle of the plate…

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:28 pm

hey romer….your bran and blueberries….blueberries are brain food and help the brain work good….bran?????? I won’t go to that end, but keeps good balance, LOL. OK PUPS!!!! LET’S GO!!!!!!!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:28 pm

“Next year he should be in the pen.”

Nah. He’ll work on arm and body strength this Winter. He couldn’t really mess with that too intensely this past winter because of recovering from his weird injury last season.

He’ll be a class-act starter next year.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

2-time batting champ up. Walk him….

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Sure enough.

MVP’s BH last time is a good omen.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Perkins is a good number 5 starter

Ian says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

Here is another white sox board. They have a pretty dedicated base. You can find the Twins threads in there.
http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=892a06689e9b36f9418cf862163a1090&f=8

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

During this slump of Morneau’s, he has really opened up his strike zone. That was a disgusting at bat.

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Giving up 1 run is blowing up now? Wow

Willie Nelson says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Most important games of the season, and Morneau does a disappearing act. Be better off without him in the game. Get someone in there who can at least put the ball in play.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Striking out three times in the inning that you would like to score is not good.

Hoof_Hearted says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

no intensity in this must win game disappointing!!!!

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Sorry Gang, but I have to borrow from next inning….c’mon PUPS Defense, let’s get back to the dugout and have about a 7 run inning.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:34 pm

Grey Goose, just don’t jinx anybody, is what I’m saying.

These guys play their ass off for you….

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:35 pm

Willie is back with his negative comments. sorry willie…you can leave again. Let’s go TWINS!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:35 pm

Thanks, Ian for the link. There’s not much going on in the SSS one right now.

BTW, I see the Brew Crew is being no-hit again in the sixth.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:36 pm

First of all this is not a must win game, and second the twins are kind of dead out there, but some of that is on the crowd…

Willie Nelson says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:36 pm

These guys have squandered so many chances today. Remember: your bullpen sucks! You need a five run lead in order to win. Hope its good boof.

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:36 pm

I don’t mean to be sarcastic, but they sure did play their ass off for me last night.

Hoof_Hearted says:

how is this a not must win game??

Merle Haggard says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:38 pm

Johnny Cash says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Damn it BOOOOOF, you don’t touch that ball, it is a double play! What an idiot! Stupid.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Why pull Perkins when he looked good??!!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

GG, they’re YOUNG, duh. They had a letdown after the by-all-accounts greatest Twins game since ‘91.

Now we’re arguing, and KC is scoring. And you ARE being sarcastic.

How’s the self-goosing going. Goodbye.

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Props to the Royals. These guys no how to play the game.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Gotta pull that fat lard outta there ASAP!!!

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Poor inning by the 2,4,5 hitters ballons into a potential big inning for the royals.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Boof is like a BIG, scary-looking dog who is afraid to bite.

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Jeez some “fans” seem to enjoy complaining about losing then winning. Everything was going fine, crickets, things head south and they are everywhere. Pathetic.

Hoof_Hearted says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:41 pm

put in breslow

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Christ, what a horrible inning by Boof. Even the crowd is booing at him. He earned it today…

Harry Caray says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Breslow Schmezlow. Cy Young can’t win a game if his offense sucks.

Hoof_Hearted says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

its easy to complain when it is the same culprits

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

Maybe just a little more bad luck for Boof? (I’m being sarcastic.)

JustnCB says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

Lilly has a no-hitter going through 6 in Milwaukee (where Zambrano just threw one a couple weeks ago). He looks like hes running out of gas though, I don’t think he’s going to make it. Piniella is going to have him on a short leash too with them wanting him available out of the bullpen for the first game of the playoffs.

Cubs gonna be tough in Oct.

Twins-Cubs WS is going to be good (if the pitching doesn’t blow this before they can get there)

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

So Cy Young never threw a shutout then?

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

If the Twins lose today they will lose the division. We got lucky enough Cleveland won last night, but Chicago will win the next two.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOFFFF!!!! GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT OF MINN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ron Davis says:

Way to earn your pay today Boof.

September 27th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Why in the hell would you continue to leave Boof in Gardy?

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

I’m glad these guys are playing their hearts out for me.

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

If the offense doesn’t score you cannot throw a shutout…

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Even if Chicago wins the next two, that doesn’t mean the twins lose the division.

eric says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Some of this is on the crowd? What is this, little league? How can the PLAYERS not get into this game? Uninspired. And bringing Boof in? You kidding?!?

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Somewhere in Chicago, Ozzie is smiling.

Bleeder, dunker, blooper, deflector…

I’ve seen harder hit fowl balls. But, they all count.

AaronK says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Sorry, but Boof pitched just fine, those were all weakly hit…sometimes you just are unlucky. Man, that was painful.

Harry Caray says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

I hope the sox do take it. This sorry excuse we’re seeing today does not deserve it.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

We are not a playoff team, and we’re showing why today.

Our manager takes out the starter with 85 pitches and goes to none other than Boof Bonser. Great idea, it seemed to work.

Our offense has left 11 on base. This team obviously doesn’t want it.

If we lose today, we’re done. The White Sox will take advantage and control their own destiny.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

Boof pitched fine? How about he lets that DP ball go and get two outs? Instead the game is tied and instead of two outs, he’s given up four hits with no outs.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

Gotta tell ya - Gardy is showing his inability to manage in these BIG games - ChiSox where already choking coming in. I have been convinced that Grady is NOT THE TWINS MANAGER going forward!!!!

Hawk Harrelson says:

You can put it on the boooooooooord, Twins Suck!

gatty790 says:

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Game over. Season over. Twins don’t deserve the playoffs anyways. Gardenhire is terrible.

Hawk Harrelson says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:48 pm

Why not bring Breslow in instead of fatass?

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:48 pm

GUERRIER??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? YUP, THIS IS DEFINITELY OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Why is the season over even if we lose? In fact, a loss might actually LENGTHEN the season…

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

I’m just curious, how many think Guerrier just sucks as usual in this stint?

geauxtwins says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

eff Gardy.

Fire Gardy says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Fire Gardy Now! Stick an interim manager in there for tomorrow. He seriously sucks. Doesn’t have a clue how to manage a pitching staff.

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

I do not agree with this pitching change. Enough with your lefty vs lefty and righty vs righty garbage Gardy. Breslow just K’ed a batter and now you are going to bring in Guerrier who has looked awful the last month of the season.

Hoof_Hearted says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

even if gurrier gets through this its a bad bad call. why is it a must win because then chicago controls it not us.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

Gardenhire is TERRIBLE, well below average for sure and not the leader to get this team over the hump - even with this team’s performance this year. he has shown lack of consistency in his decision that lead to player insecurities - totally opposite of TK.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

If we lose, we’ll be a half game back. I just don’t see the Sox missing out on our missed chances again.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

I see we have a bunch of Sux bloggers joining us and ruining it. I’m outa here.

When have they failed us this year?

September 27th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Way outside. GUERRIER?!? Screw this!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Fire Gardy says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Only play he had.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

How much evidence do people want about that Gardy Boy?

JustnCB says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Lilly just lost the no hitter, first pitch of the 7th, solid double by Braun. Totally called it.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

I take it all back.

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

Well I will eat my words there, but thankfully so. That is huge to get out of that bases loaded no outs jam without any additional runs scoring.

Fire Gardy says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

Too bad. I really wanted to do other things and not watch these losers choke away the season. Oh well, perhaps next inning.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

Too many people on here are yellow bellied. The season is over after this inning. Dumbest crap I have heard all year.

Hoof_Hearted says:

September 27th, 2008 at 4:55 pm

like i said before even though gurrier barely makes it through how do you defend gardy on that decision.

Carl Jung says:

Ron Davis says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:00 pm

Kansas City, of course, is playing as if their very lives depended on the outcome of this game. I hope Cleveland does the same tonight.

Hailey Barbour says:

Beisbol-a-GO-GO says:

Why don’t you eat it then?

Beisbol-a-GO-GO says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Skips, agree. Worst bullpen definitely belongs to Mets. If they could they would pitch Johan everyday for nine innings and 150 pitches!

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Guerrier will leave his well documented high breaking ball to someone and they will knock it out of the park.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

So how is it easy for Ozzie? Oh I remember, his big game pitcher is pitching today.

Bugsy Siegel says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Well, if he couldn’t get it done last inning, why not give Guerrier another chance, right Gardy?

Obviously a bunch of frustrated jocks from the South Side of Chicago…can’t talk positive about the White Sux, so come here and bad mouth our PUPS!!!!! At least our guys try hard, play hard, run hard, have fun, and the BitchSux are all AJ alphabet brats. Screw them, c’mon PUPS!!!!!

gatty790 says:

I will agree that leaving Guerrier in is a really dumb move.

Beisbol-a-GO-GO says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

This is a pretty sorry blog right now. As much as I’ve sent in my share of negative posts during the past few months, today is not the day. Losers??? Losers are the KC Royals whose only claim to fame every year is hoping that they have one of the contenders on their schedule in the last week of the season so they can do their spoiler schtick. That’s the definition of losers.

Bugsy Siegel says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:08 pm

Gardy being Gardy again and again and again - come on fans it is obvious - he is NOT A MLB MANAGER!!!!!!!!!!!

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:09 pm

I’m a Twins fan and I still enjoy seeing this losers implode. It’s great.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

In these last few games (and playoffs) I would have stayed away from Boof and Guerrier as if they had the PLAGUE!!!

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

Gardenhire needs to get a punch to the face. Is he alive in the dugout? Guerrier has been overused and has showed that time after time.

That means you don’t try to use him another inning. We won’t get lucky twice…

Tom Kelly says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

I told Terry Ryan not to hire Gardy. His skull is so thick it leaves only a very small marble-sized space for a brain, and I’m not even sure there is any grey matter in there at all. Face it, Guerrier is every bit as bad as Juan Rincon is. They let Rincon go, why not let Guerrier go too? His “contribution” is a big time net negative.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:17 pm

Sing it SoCal.

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:17 pm

OH damnit!

Here’s the Twins:

Take a small lead.

Starter hits the wall in the 5th.

Overused bullpen pitches like crap (except Breslow who rarely gets to pitch to more than 1 guy).

Opposition takes the lead.

Twins offense that was too content with a 1 or 2 run lead continues to hibernate.

Frustrating!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:17 pm

Scimp hits, scrimp insurgents.

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:18 pm

How about instead of singing just leave since you are so sure that the season is over

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Gardenhire was looking around the bullpen to see if he could put Rincon in. He’s had all the other chokers in like Bonser, Guerrier and now Crain. If Crain is wearing a Twins uniform next year Gardenhire needs to be coaching New Britain.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Too many people on here are the type that stab themselves in the leg and walk all the way to the doctor just to complain that they had to walk after they got stabbed in the leg.

Un-freaking real. Hey Chicago fans, your team is TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE.

Ozzie G. looks like Casey Stengel compared to Gardenhire. This loss is on you Gardenslug.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Don’t blame that on Morneau.

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

It’d be nice if the team cared even a little. They look like crap in a must-win game.

The White Sox will take adcantage, take over the lead and then we’ll lose by a game.

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:21 pm

Watching adapted high school sports is more fun then watching this pile of crap.

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:21 pm

Not over, but can the offense remember its ok to score again?

Nora says:

Pretty patheric Goose

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:21 pm

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

KC again will be in the cellar and then show up when there is nothing to lose. Another thing that is pathetic.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

Why doesn’t this team ever take advantage of their opportunites?

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:23 pm

They do it every year!

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:23 pm

Wow - it’s halfway through the 2nd qtr and my second Alma Mater, Rice, has scored 42 points - they have a killer receiver there. Gophers are my first (undergrad).

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:23 pm

Why is gomez even out there when he can’t run as fast…

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

They usually do. They hit .310 in scoring position. Hopefully they rember that and get it going.

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

Gardy is Mr. Micro-manager. The problem is that he couldn’t carry Tony Larusso’s (his hero)jock. Why the hell do you take Breslow out when he strikes out the one guy he faces? With our bullpen if a guy is doing well, for God’s sake leave him in. All this lefty vs. lefty, righty vs. righty by the book crap is why good old Gardy will be watching pro wrestling on tv in October instead of playing the Rays.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

Anything I’ve said should probably be disregarded. I’m pretty much saying everything out of anger. This game has been depressing.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

So, it’s gatty, Dr, me, Nora. Who else are authentic here? Give me you nominations.

Crap, Gomez can’t run. He’s safe anyway.

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

KC gave us a gift there, so let’s make them pay.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

“Bob” you are RIGHT ON!!!

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

Next year the Twins will finish last in the Central. The Indians will not have the injury plague that scuttled them this year, the Tigers will bounce back, the Sox will be the Sox and the Royals pitching staff will make them the “new Twins.” Meanwhile we will have the same old Cuddyer, same old Boof, Crain and Guerrier, same old LNP, same old lack of right handed power, same old manager.

Skips Scramble says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

I didn’t know Gardy could make the offense score more then 2 runs…

TwinsTerritory says:

I love the Twins but they are driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:27 pm

Twins playing for one run with that Gomez steal? Or did he do it on his own?

Hoof_Hearted says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:27 pm

time to kill the bullpen and get back in it and control our own destiny

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:28 pm

True about Gardy and the offense. They have been pretty bad. I just don’t get the Boof move. Why Boof? Why not…

Breslow
Crain
Mijares

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:28 pm

Even if the Twins score any runs, the first thing out of some of these idiot’s mouths will be: “I wonder how Gardy will blow this”.

If you don’t like the twins and can’t hang with them through a nine inning game, then good riddance.

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:28 pm

strikeout here from casilla and mauer’s usual DP to the second basemen are due up.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

Bob, I agree.

I’m so proud of how much they’ve overcome, and I’m just upset that we’re throwing it away.

We’ve done so much and have a great chance. I don’t want to see us waste it. And, I just don’t see us doing it if we lose today.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:31 pm

Yuk, that is when small ball fails. Also, I just noticed that Casilla moves his arm a lot when he is going to bunt. That is a tell.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:34 pm

Gatty, this AB could be to lose or win the MVP.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:34 pm

That is crushing.

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:35 pm

Morneau, Gardy = BONEHEADS!!!!!!!!!!!

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Too bad, but I think that Justin just lost the MVP in that at bat. That’s a shame.

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Guess the supposed fan Goose is happy

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Give the MVP to someone else. Morneau has been great this season, but he is no MVP.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

i am still here too, romer, but not gonna argue with BS from the South Side of Chicago. Miller time, borrowing another from the future.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

MVP, Morneau?? No way! How??? He already has his lifetime award.

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

bottom of the lineup due for KC.

gatty790 says:

See, I called that an idiot would say it!

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

Oh boy - Dennis Reyes!!! How about a 6-2 loss and goodbye playoffs, anybody???

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

So many chances. Another reason why we don’t deserve the playffos. 16 left on base today.

We won’t score in the last two innings…

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

Son of a b*tch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why that Morneau AB so predictable?

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

Morneau has done nothing in the past 2 weeks at the plate. Twins are lucky to be in the race with the clean up hitter struggling this much.

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

One at bat by Justin erased a perfectly good inning.

Grey Goose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Nora, I stoked. It gets better and better.

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Morneau is NOT a money (clutch when it is really critical) type of player!

romer says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

“This could be a signature MVP moment for Justin”

He needs to sign his signature sitting down. He’s wearing out.

Wish Gardy had taken care of the situation 10 days ago.

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

If I were the other team I would walk Mauer everytime.

2010 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

i think the game is over folks

gatty790 says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

So since we left a lot of people on base in one game, we don’t deserve to go to the playoffs

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

Goose you were never a Twins fan. Seems pretty obvious or you would not be happy.

Patrick says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

The pressure of the MVP race has clearly gotten to Morneau. He’s been a different hitter for the past 2 weeks. Scratch that, he hasn’t been any kind of hitter for the past 2 weeks. Each game we’ve won has been despite him and not because of him. He hasn’t contributed at all and has routinely left runners on base. He’s been trying to pull everything and seems to have forgotten about the opposite field. I love the guy and he’s my favorite player but being our best and most important player, as well as the guy who gets the most credit when we’re playing well, he also has to carry most of the blame when we’re not being productive. If we don’t make the playoffs this year, Morney’s recent slump will be a big reason why.

DrDon says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

romer….make sure you hit the Buddy Holly songs heavy tonight at your gig, ok?

Grey Goose says:

DrDon says:

Hey Grey Goose. based on your last post, I have a poem for you:

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:42 pm

Why waste your time. Obviously you life is pretty empty to be hanging around here.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:43 pm

We don’t deserve the playoffs because we’ve wasted every possible chance (leaving 16 on is just today’s example). Everytime we have a chance to extend the division lead we find some way to blow it.

I want them to make it just as much as the next guy, but I’m so sick of these missed chances.

I want to punch a wall….

DrDon says:

Twins Fan in SoCal says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Not wasted, mostly surprising and a bit fun, BUT Gardy and those relievers sure have acted like they have NO INTEREST IN WINNING!!

I will NOT PULL FOR THE TWINS IF GARDY, GUERRIER, BONSER, YOUNG ARE BACK (esp the last 3).

Lew Ford says:

It won’t be over, but it’ll be close. Do you think the White Sox will waste another chance to take the lead tonight?

And if they take the lead, do you think they’ll lose their make-up game in Chicago against Freddy Garcia? I don’t

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:46 pm

What’s wrong with Young? He played well this year.

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:47 pm

Of course it won’t be over gatty but by losing last night, we blew the best chance to get that 1.5 game lead we need and control our own destiny. Now the Twins once again have to rely on Cleveland if we lose again.

I for one don’t look forward to a potential game on Tuesday since it’s in Chicago.

I have always been so sick of the Morneau for MVP chants. MVPs do not go in the tank down the stretch, and do not bounce into double plays with bases loaded and the game on the line.

All he had to do is lift it to the outfield, get a run and keep the inning alive,,,,, Morneau has always been too streaky of hitter to be an MVP

Shaun says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Hey there ya go Tolbert.

Bob says:

September 27th, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Morneau should have listened to Gary Gaetti when he said “it’s hard to play baseball with both hands around your neck.” He has been horrible all week long at the plate. Two walks in the bottom of the 7th including one to Mauer and Morneau swings at the first pitch and grounds in to a double play????

Fair Weather Kevin says:

September 27th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

we cant whine about the umps. I am not saying they are perfect, but the Twins have gotten breaks too, like that Swisher AB on Thursday.

They Twins are in this situation because they are absolutely anemic.

They have a three game series with KC to close the season and can almost put it away with probably 2 out of 3 wins and they lose the first two???? They are so lucky they are still in the race.

NOT EATING CROW!!! says:

September 27th, 2008 at 6:10 pm

Well, well, well…

It was four months ago that I was berated by the apologists when I suggested that Morneau becomes emotionally instable in high-pressure at-bats and ALWAYS swings at the first pitch in such a case. I also noted that if he didn’t knock it off this immature propensity of his would end up costing his team. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!!? What a little, friggin’ retard this guy is! It just is not in his mental capacity to say to himself, “Gee, pitcher just walked Mauer on four straight, maybe I ought to take a pitch or two, look for a pitch I know I can drive rather than just swing at any little thing the pitcher gives me because I have zero control over my self-discipline when the fans are all standing and cheering.” MVP my ass! He shouldn’t even finish in the top ten (I’d vote for Span over his retarded ass)!

Case point #2: T, Nora, Romer, pay the eff attention! Remember all those times months ago when people got frustrated at the Twins for pissing away games that they should have won, and you all were like, “The sky isn’t falling… it’s only one loss… blah, blah, blah.” Remember that some of us were saying that EVERY GAME counts and you cannot piss a one of them away? Remember that? Well, now you know why, don’t you?! Don’t imagine we’ll be hearing much more from the apologists this year, folks with all that crow (not to mention their feet) in their mouths. But next February you can bet they’ll all be right back here on this very blog spewing their mouth diarrhea about how their baseball acumen is so much greater than anyone else’s on here.

HAH, god that has to be embarring for the apologists!

Fair Weather Kevin says:

September 27th, 2008 at 6:11 pm

well, if we can hold em, top of the order coming up. Lets get two of the first three batters on base, then let Morneau redeem himself with a walk off homer. Hes still not MVP material, but he could redeem himself a lot.

I think this is happening because he is living with his girlfriend before getting married.

Nora says:

September 27th, 2008 at 6:11 pm

A LOT. just because he doens’t in one situation gives you no reason to make that idiotic post. find me a player in the major leagues batting 1.000 with runners in scoring position. morneau swung at the first pitch because he probably thoguht the pitcher was going to throw him a fat pitch (which he did) thinking justin would be taking. justin just missed it. it happens.

This team has heart when it shows up to play, but that’s only about half the time. The other half of the time, including yesterday and today, they showed their true selves: A BIG BUNCH OF LOSERS! Gardy and Billy both need to be fired. CLEAN F’ING HOUSE! Keep Anderson and Vavra, if the new manager will have them, and let the other bums go. Where Gardy gets off bringing in Guerrier in the first place, let alone leaving him out there after dodging bullets in the previous inning, I mean, gawd, what a stupid boneheaded thing to do. If Gardy and Smith had a single brain cell between them Guerrier wouldn’t even be on the team, let alone pitching in important situations on the last weekend of the season. And don’t even get me started on Mr. Justin MVP I think I’ll take the weekend off Morneau. When the pressure is on this guy pulls a disappearing act. MISERABLE FAILURES ALL OF THEM.

September 27th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Am I wrong or does Morneau go in the tank every September? When he’s bad you can see it in his swing. It’s like, ‘I want to get out and go hide in the dugout.’

We know he’s better than that. Does he know it?

Stu says:

September 27th, 2008 at 6:48 pm

Gardy = Matt Guerrier Love Machine.

Stu says:

September 27th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Relax, we can look forward to these offseason acquisitions:

Omar Visquez (to replace Punto after Mariners sign him for 11 million a year), Jose Valentin, Mike Moroth (for 8th inning guy), Steve Balboni or Jesse Barfield (for their right-handed DH), and Billy Wagner (whom they can’t believe they got at such a discount!).

Bullmoose says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Nuts! It’s been a good run this season, but it looks like the Twins gas tank just hit “E”.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Brian Bullington tomorrow for the Indians? Even if the White Sox lose tonight, we’ll settle for a tie if we can win tomorrow.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

4-1 Indians. I guess there is some hope still. Go Indians!

Charles Barkley says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

The White Sox are turrible…just turrible.

TwinsTerritory says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Hopefully they get swept and we can FINALLY win tomorrow.

Heatonator says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Haha, Chuck!

tom grue says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

7-1 now which team sucks the most? lol

Heatonator says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

7-1

T says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

The similiarities between 2008 and 2006 are terrifying.

Hopefully the end result (Twins in the postseason) holds.

That said, being at the game today…ouch. Morneau was Capt. Rally Killer. Tonight was his chance to secure MVP (national broadcast).

He failed to do so. Likely cost himself the chance.

Twins are being handed a gift by Cleveland at the moment. If this score holds the Twins need to win tomorrow to at least force the Wednesday tiebreak.

T says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

with some better bullpen options.

Which Bradford, Embree, and Hawkins would not have been.

At all.

tom grue says:

September 27th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

all you blogger bitchers sh be happy tonite brian bass pitched 6 innings gave up 1 run and retired the last 13 batters so maybe he wasnt the biggest problem no??????

September 27th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:15 pm

This from the Sox blog tonight:

This is honestly embarassing, why the **** does it seem like KC and CLE are putting forth more ****ing effort than a team in a ****ing playoff race. This is ****ing sad, **** this bull****. Our only hope is that Minnesota loses tommorrow, DET gives us the makeup, and the Twins plane crashes on the way to the one way playoff game.

These people are seriously ready to jump off a bridge…

Again, if you want some good laughs, check out 670AM after the game tonight

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

The game is televised on WGN right now, and you can get a few good laughs there also. But I don’t think Cleveland can hold the lead.

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Mudcat??? You don’t think Cleveland can hold a five run lead with four outs to go?

Really?

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

They pitched to Thome with first base open and paid. Then Konerko homered anyway, so it didn’t matter. It’s 8-6, but everyone’s prolly watching anyway.

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Mudcat:

You really believe they can blow a TWO run lead with four outs to go??? ;*)

Uh-oh

Man, I hope the Sox bring in Jenks the Cat, to give Cleveland a little more breathing room

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:40 pm

I wish the Twins would have got beat 12-10 or something, I wouldn’t have felt so empty afterwards.

Thanks, AJ, the final out of the eighth.

Keep tellin’ yourself there was no way to help the bullpen, T.

You’re the only one listening to yourself.

But I can understand…you’ve been sticking to that BS line all year, little late to admit your error at this point.

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Jenks/Linebrink, it doesn’t matter. They all stink. Load em up.

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Johnny Peralta. My new favorite player.

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Now Victor Martinez is my favorite player! ! !

Fair Weather Kevin says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

its really a shame that after the way the Twins have stunk that the Sox are still giving us a chance

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Chicago’s bullpen rivals the Mets. As bad as ours has been, theirs is HORRIBLE.

At least we had those two crucial back-to-back games where ours gave up zero.

This has to be like getting stabbed, missing the jugular, but then getting hit by a bus crossing the street.

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Franklin Guitierrez for…President! ! !

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

HORRIBLE, I say, HORRIBLE!

USAFChief says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Let’s not celebrate until we’re sure Cleveland’s bullpen can hold this lead.

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:02 pm

Tribe has batted around TWICE tonight. Last night they held them under a dozen (11) tonight it’s an even dozen.

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Mark! ! ! I think even Cleveland can hold a SIX run lead with three outs to go!

Fair Weather Kevin says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

four possibilities tomorrow:

Twins Win,, Sox win,,, Sox have to beat Detroit next day

TWins lose, Sox lose,, Sox have to beat Detroit next day

Twins Win, Sox lose,, season over

Twins lose, Sox win,,, Sox play Detroit, but only have play in game if they lose

all in all , things looking pretty good for TWins now,,,,, almost shamefully

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Cleveland announcers just said Cliff Lee will NOT pitch tomorrow. He has officially been shut down.

Mark says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

Chicago has scored 20 runs the last three games… and LOST THEM ALL!

Na, Na, Naa Naa, Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye.

Don’t forget, 670AM. It’s really worth it! :*)

Mudcat says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

Sox pop out and strike out. Twins hang onto First Place for another day!

sid says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

MY CALL
The next (AND LAST) team that the Twins will beat this year will be the White Sox on Tuesday.
The Twins lose tomorrow, win Tuesday and lose every ALDS game.

mickey mental says:

September 27th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

so tomorrow is game 162, the twins have won 87 and own a half-game lead.

but i keep reading that the season is over. can someone help me with the math?

Daniel1966 says:

September 28th, 2008 at 12:04 am

Mr sid, That may well be the smartest and safest call this year. After all, the Twins and Sox were picked to finish a distant 3rd-4th in this division. The AL Central of 2008 is second only to the NL West in being the most topsy-turvy in baseball (And the NL, sans the Cubs, is AAA at best). That said, can we really expect the end to be “pretty”? Who knows what the future holds but Fri./Sat.’s games have been ugly for both teams. Maybe Manana…..

sane says:

September 28th, 2008 at 12:04 am

mickey,
Tomorrow the season IS over!
I have the schedule on the desk in front of me.
