Twins pick up Redmond’s option
Posted on October 9th, 2008 – 10:39 AMBy Joe Christensen
Mike Redmond will be back with the Twins as a reserve catcher in 2009, as the team picked up the option on his contract Thursday, in an expected move.
Redmond, 37, will make $950,000. He appeared in 38 games this year, batting .287 (37-for-129) with six doubles and 12 RBI.

Should have gone into baseball…
Twins Slogan. Expect More, Payless
How can anyone be down on Red-dog? I love that guy
Good for him- Glad to see he’ll be back with the Twins next year.
this was an obvious move.
It may have been an expected move but I’m sure happy that it happened and it’s done! The team wouldn’t be the same without Red! :0)
Good to have red-dog back. How about some credit for management for signing him in the first place, let alone the extention. Great move!
Great move. While his stats don’t neccesarily show it, he’s a very important part of the team
Good for Redmond.
Punto should be paid about the same and appear in about the same # of games.
$25,000 per game. Not a bad gig for the old man.
Always ready to play…and a real team guy. Yea, Reddog!
gatty790,
“Should have gone into baseball…”
Only if you were better in baseball than you are at blog commenting.
Otherwise, your salary in baseball would be the same as your salary for this.
Does anyone here think the Twins will make a big free-agent signing or trade this off-season?
“Does anyone here (in their right mind) think the Twins will make a big free-agent signing or trade this off-season?”
Fixed that for you.
Gee thanks.
Good move. I suspect Redmond also has value to the club as an unofficial coach, so I think the salary is justified even if he doesn’t play much.
Should have gone into blogging…
I’m hoping they can shore up the left side of the infield (not with career journeymen) this time around…
yes. they will sign the following players. CC Sabathia, Manny Ramirez, Mike Mussina, Ken griffey Jr., Mark Texeira, and Nick Punto. They will trade for the following players. Alex Rodriguez, Grady Sizemore, Johan Santana, Evan Longoria, and Henry Blanco.
The twinkies are not far from being considered Legitimate contenders. They are basically an infielder and a bullpen arm away.
And the twins have parts that can be moved - like an outfielder, Kubel, Cuddy, Span. Or young, promising minor league pitching. And the twins are under-budget in terms of salary.
They should get a big right-hander with power. Will they, I doubt it.
Very intuitive…NOT!
Would those signings and trades be big enough for you?
You live on another planet. Thanks for USELESS imput.
This is great news. With a team made up of mostly “young pups”, I think Mike’s maturity adds alot to the team and it’s players. Many times, experience and attitude are worth just as much as stats. Looking forward to another year of Twins baseball in 2009.
I hope Cuddyer comes up with a new personal t-shirt this spring. “140 Guaranteed” as to the number of games he will play this season. I still think he might end up as our starting 3B again. Good to have Red-Dog back for likely his final season.
Maybe the twins will sign Col. Klink McChiller away from the Vikings. They could use him to wipe spit and sunflower seeds from the dugout floor. On second thought, he’s not qualified for that position either.
They’ll get a right handed bopper, some relief help, a ss or 2nd baseman, and maybe a useful veteran starting pitcher, depending on what they have to give up to get the aforementioned pieces.
“Mike’s maturity”
I love Red Dog, but that is an oxymoron.
sorry, bufftwins. for some reason my 11:36 post came up under your name. I am not trying to do that.
11:36 post is from You’ve got to be kidding me!
[…] Around the Majors – […]
A million bucks to run around the clubhouse naked and swing a bat 129 times a year. No wonder this country is fiscally going to hell.
You guys must have a good vibe with Redmond, to call him Red Dog. Do they still make that awful Red Dog beer?
“Many times, experience and attitude are worth just as much as stats”
So THAT explains why they signed Tony Batista!!
Yeah another year of the Naked dance.
This country is fiscally going to hell because of irresponsible management and lax lending policies by vastly overpaid ceo’s, who have no motivation to see their companies do well, because they get paid more if they are fired than if they stay on the job.
Not because mike redmond gets paid a million dollars to play baseball.
If we were in Japan, the CEO’s responsible for this mess would be sticking swords into their own guts, to escape the disgrace and hardship they have brought to their company, country, and investors, rather than collecting massive severance packages that could feed a small third world nation comfortably for several years.
Tri needs to fix this name and email thing! I don’t think Josh has been entering all these posts.
I wonder if Redmond is going to streak the crowd on his last game of his career
This is probably as good as they could have done for a back up catcher (other that trying to sign Javier Valentin who is a free agent). They need to try to get another catcher that would be ready to be the backup next year. It might make sense to roll the dice and offer a minor league contract to Josh Bard, or add a AAA catcher in one of their trades…
No cost of living increase? How will he feed his family?
?? if manny gets to the world series with la and the sox get there will he get a winners and losers share check?
For what Red brings to the team, what he’s paid is great value. He seems to like it here, everyone seems to like him from the players to the coaches to the front office to the fans. And he’s no slouch off the bench, either offensively or defensively.
Glad to see this got done. Redmond is one of the keys to our continunity and and underappreciated reason why our young starters did so well. Congrats Mark and thanks for all the unsung things you do for the Twins
The Twins could have signed me for the minimum. I am old, savy, great in the locker room and I know I could knock in at least 20 runs in a year and throw out at least 1 runner. They should have waited and signed Chris Coste for the same price. He is a couple of years younger, a good receiver and can get you 10 hrs and 40-50 rbi’s as a back up.
Redmond is a class act and we’re thrilled to have him back on board! He’s got a lot of heart and it’s always great to see him cheering on his fellow teammates. He’s more than a back-up catcher to this team and it’s great he’ll be back!
As for you Johnny Bench: you don’t know the twins if you think we should find someone else for back-up to Joe. Redmond can come off the bench and be a great hitter in a pinch (he’s shown it time and time again) and he’s a darn good catcher. Quit your whinning.
Is this it? The first signed F/A for 2009! And it only cost the Twins a mere #950,000 what a deal! May I bring up another suggestion. In the minors there are alot of young catchers, with more power potential and can play more games even as a back up than Mike Redmond did this season. And add to that, alot of these guys are making less than $400,000 a year! Now if the team is into saving a few bucks than I think my suggestion of getting another catcher with better potential is just as good or better of a deal than signing Mike Redmond for another year with his 6 doubles and 22 singles then so be it!
Wallyb2 -
We don’t want our backup catcher playing anymore than Redmond did last year, because that would mean the Mauer was sitting. And whenever Mauer sits, Twins fans have a tendency to complain.
One of the TRUE leaders in the clubhouse…..And most respected.
He’s worth the value for leadership and backup catcher.
Twins need now to be thinking beyond 2009.
GGG yes he gets both the winners and the losers portion. ESPN last night said yes he would
Pete D,
Good point. You don’t want a prospect catcher sitting on the bench all year. Redmond is perfect, because he only plays when Mauer needs a break.
Well Lisa, it’s not whining, it’s called being a realist. It is complacent Sid Hartmann fans like you that playcate the Twins front office to do nothing. I like Redmond, but there are a lot of Redmonds out there that can do a better job and contribute off and more importantly ON the field.
Give Reddog 5 mil. Who cares? The only budget the Twins have is their crappy owners budget, not a MLB salary cap.
Good move.

I agree 100%. Very true, very true
Redmond should either play a little bit more in ‘09 to give Mauer a bit more rest or Redmond should play more selectively. Thrylos and I had a bit of a discussion about this about a week ago and he looked up the stats. Redmond handled a couple of the young pitchers better than Mauer. Rather than this basically mindless approach of Redmond getting day game after a night game stuff, maybe Gardy should use him with certain pitchers regardless of day or night. But that would be innovation, or at least it would be management, which our soon to be also extended manager doesn’t seem to get.
Red Dog - money well spent!
not a bad way to start the off season by keeping Redmond.
Now show me something original and get a starting SS or 3B that can hit.
Unfortunately we don’t really have much in trade bait. We have too many OFs but none of them are worth much. Cuddy is coming off of injury, Kubel can’t run, Young well what can you say except hopefully he had an off first year here, Span — should be kept, Gomez can’t hit the curve, slider or change.
Only option for trading is pitching and we all know how the Twins hate doing that. Especially after they see Garza in the World Series.
Maybe we could trade Buscher for John Grabow from Pittsburgh or Gobble from KC
Buscher will bring less than a Hamburger by himself… I think that it makes sense to be part of a package in a trade for a 3B
Not that this would ever happen, but the Twins do have to comply with MLB’s debt rule, which basically states a team cannot have debt worth more than 40% of the team’s asset value.
Redmond handled a couple of the young pitchers better than Mauer.
You didn’t pause to think that some of that could have to do with Mauer having a nearly 3x larger sample size to pull from?
I am all for a 3rd baseman thrylos98
Only option for trading is pitching and we all know how the Twins hate doing that. Especially after they see Garza in the World Series.
It seems like the fans are the ones who regret the Garza/Young trade more than the Twins.
I mean, that WAS them sticking their neck out and trading pitching for hitting.
Been reading the comments on this blog….I am LMAO at all of the know-nothing experts. Guess I will have a Miller Lite, and keep laughing at most of you. Way to go RedDog….keep working with these PUPS!!!!!!!! You, my friend, are a keeper. Good Luck, Mark Redmond.
Is there anyone available on this planet that plays 3rd except for Beltre
thrylos98; what do you mean? buscher is slow, has little power and is a very poor infielder, he should be worth a lot in a trade. maybe even up for beltre!
having said that he did produce decent #’s with all his limitation, but i don’t think he’s an everyday ml player.
jimmy all these guys have been rumored (which is nearly always the truth) to be on the market to some extent: atkins, kouzmanoff, uggla (moved from 2b) cantu, hall, encarnacion, glaus, blalock, rolen, mora, beltre; fa’s, blake, crede maybe more.
GGG I would be a very happy jmmy bee if we got Casey Blake over here. If the Dodgers win the series this year it may be hard for them to part with him. Ugly Uggla would be awesome but he would expect a kings ransom for his type of #’s
Re: 3B
if you care, I posted an analysis of the 3B options on my blog yesterday (click on my name) I looked at all potentially available RH power hitting 3B with decent defense and came up with 13 names
Too long to try to replicate here, but my take is that the Twins should target:
Ty Wiggington
Troy Glaus
Scott Rollen and
Adrian Beltre
in that order.
thrylos98 I didn’t realize Glaus was 33. I think Rolen was hurt quite a bit. I would stay away from B Hall at all costs. So B Hall it is for the Twins
thrylos -
While I like the idea of Wigginton, like you said in your blog, he probably isn’t available. He played a lot out in left field as well for the Astros, and for a team that feels they are contenders, moving someone like Wigginton doesn’t seem like a good idea.
The only way that Hall might make sense is as salary equalizer in a trade package for J.J. Hardy that includes Cuddyer, or even a potential 1-1 swap… They both have almost identical contracts and identical production. Cuddyer would be better suited to the Brewers than Hall and Hall would be more versatile on the bench as a RH DH, part time 3B, part time 1B for the Twins, than Cuddyer. He definitely is not the answer for a starting 3B.
Pete D,
I am not sure on whether he will be available or not. The Astros are sitting on a $90M payroll. They want to compete, their starting pitching is atrocious, they have some depth at SS in the minors and Tejada could move into 3B. Wiggington will make $6-7M in arbitration. They don’t want to raise their payroll. If Smith is creative with an offer, I’m sure that the Astros might be willing to listen.
nice job thrylos98!
my choice would be uggla either moved to 3b or casilla to ss and then let cuddy, butcher and harris tag team 3b.
imo, while being the most expensive trade wise, uggla would be the biggest difference maker because of his power.
however, i’m sure it would take either blackburn or perkins and a couple of good prospects, possibly top prospects.
If we can get Casey Blake, go get him (although I am pretty sure the Dodgers will do everything they can to keep him). If that is the case, Glaus is the better option - he still has a decent glove, is a good hitter and a grounded/grizzled vet that could help the kids. My main wants for this offseason:
1) Keep the starters you have; all you crazies out there wanting to trade Blackburn are nuts - he is a gamer and showed it against the Sox; we provide him one measly run I like our bullpen against theirs any day of the week. Keep Humber up here and see what we can get out of Duensing/Manship for the possible 5th spot and move perkins to the pen until he can pitch more than 4 innings in a start - although he did do decently against KC that last game
2) Go get a darn 3B - Bushcer is horrible (yes i said it and I am not exaggerating, he had some nice numbers for awhile but ended with .250 avg, something like .200 with RISP, and little power and a horrible glove). Harris is solid but more of a SS (he was actually GOOD there for awhile until Punto came back - yah remember when we were WINNING with Harris starting?). Get Glaus - he won’t command a lot in a trade and is a good fit, and would fit in nicely between Mauer and Morneu and could back Morn up once in awhile; oh and he only just turned 32!
3) Get one more solid righty out of the pen - whether it be duensing/manship (he is an R right?) or keep Korecky up (why the heck didn’t he get any oportunities before?) or find a gem in a trade and you’ll have Neshek back (hopefully) and Mijares/Breslow along with the other usual suspects, making the bullpen pretty awesome
4) Get Gomez and Young to play in the Fall league - their plate discipline is not good - at all; Young showed some nice poise at times (he is still 3 Run Jack Young in my book) but he swings at the 1st pitch way too much and also refuses to hit for power when he has the chance. He could also use some practice in the field - he has the speed, just needs to get used to LF. Gomez is just a headache - he’s so friggen talented he just needs to practice and get his head on straight.
5) If we get Glaus, I want either Harris moved to the starting lineup or a new SS/2b brought in that won’t cost us a ton in a trade or in FA - DONT get Cabrera - his numbers aren’t that good anyway and 9-10 million is absurd. Harris proved he could play SS and worked well with Casilla for that short period he had the nod. Gardy - stop treating Harris like crap and give him the job, he deserves it.
And finally…
6) Speaking of Gardy - he gave me so many headaches with those bullpen calls but PLEASE sign him and the rest of his staff (ESPECIALLY Rick Anderson - the guy should be a manager in this league in my opinion). Vavra should only be moved if there is someone better out there to teach. His lessons seemed to work on the kids (Young, Gomez) for awhile but they seemed to have lost it. Morneau showed he could do it all w/o the HR’s but lost it at the end, and Vavra showed he couldn’t get him out of it.
That’s all I guess, tell me what ya’ll think
Houston must be a real hitters park. I would look at a players stats yhrough squinted eyes and know that they wouldn’t do quite as well here with the Twins. Ala Lamb
medschool matt,
I think that it will probably be safe to trade Perkins. Slowey/Liriano and Baker should be untouchable and Blackburn only if the Twins get a better starter in return. Perkins has the following problems:
a. He is practicly an one pitch pitcher (72% of the pitches he threw were fastballs and hitter hit .351 off his slider (7% of pitches thrown), .300 off his change up (14% of pitches thrown)and .286 off his curve (7% of pitches thrown). For comparison, Liriano and Blackburn threw only 55% fastballs.
b. When behind in the count, he almost exclusively throws his fastball
c. He lets the game get to him and presses, which results in fat fastballs in the middle of the plate
He will be 26 next year. I see the potential reluctance of the Twins to trade him (1st round pick and local) but he needs help to be a successful pitcher. I would not mind see him gone for a good third baseman. Swarzak/Bonser/Humber/et al. can fight it out at spring training for the 5th starter position.
Houston’s park factor is 99, which is just about league average and a bit favoring pitchers. For comparison, Coors field has a 108 park factor and Petco field 91.
Yawn. This barely deserved a blog entry, Mr. Christensen.
that’s why atkins is so scary and kouzmanoff might be a sleeper. lots of possibilities out there.
to expand on that:
atkins 21 hr, 99 rbi,
.286/.328/.452,
away .233/.278/.383
kouzmanoff 23 hr,84 rbi, .260/.299/.433,
away .292/.329/.473
“Houston’s park factor is 99, which is just about league average and a bit favoring pitchers. For comparison, Coors field has a 108 park factor and Petco field 91.”
While that may be true, I just looked at Wigginton’s home/away splits for last year.
Home : .343/.390/.691
Away : .234/.316/.380
Those are some of the worst splits I have ever seen. .109/.074/.311 is CRAZY.
Trade bait:
2 of Young, Kubel, & Cuddyer.
1 of Perkins or Blackburn (Personally I think Perkins would be a good option out of the bullpen as he got tired at end of the year.)
1 of Boof, Crain & Guerrier (I think Boof would do well with a whole year out of the bullpen.)
And depending on what/if anything is brought in other trades, Buscher, Macri, Tolbert or Harris could go as one or two of them could help another team.
Good to have Red back!
Bill Hall only had 1 good year and has been a bust after get his money from the Brewers. But I guess he and Michael Cuddyer would have something to talk about!
Shaun that will be next years bust acquisition for the Twins. You wait and see….
Glad to see Red’s coming back! I’ll always remember how he steped it up in ‘07 when Mauer was injured.
Look, I like Redmond and he has been very valuable for the Twins. He didn’t really “step it up” when Mauer was injured, he just played like he always does - an average catcher, doesn’t hit for power, can get some lucky hits. He controls the game well and calls a great game.
However, I wonder who the Twins have down in AA or AAA. What if Mauer’s knees fail him again? Redmond is a fine reserve catcher, but not an everyday guy anymore. At least he’s better than Blanco or LeCroy, yikes. Lets just hope Gardy bats him 8th and not 3rd in 2009.
I wonder who the Twins have down in AA or AAA
Short answer: nobody (Let me correct that: they have a prayer that Molares might return in shape after a serious injury, the second in 2 years.) And this is a problem better addressed sooner than later
I am kinda surprised we haven’t seen the annual off season call to move Mauer to 3rd yet….
950k for a number 3 hitter? What a steal!
Big free agent signing or trade in the off season? Signing? No. Trade? Maybe.
Redmond is one of the few veterans that have worked out well for the Twins. I think the job is his until Drew Butera is ready. He might have 2-3 years left in him in that backup role.
Why do people call him “red-dog”?Butera? Uh, no.
Butera? Uh, no
You’re right, let’s go sign Pudge Rodriquez to be the backup catcher.
we can’t sign Pudge there would be a catcher controversy.. ![]()
Do the Twins teach contact over power? How can it be possible that year after year we are at or near the bottom in HR’s? Is this Vavra’s fault? I know we do well in taking the outside pitch the other way - but wouldn’t it be nice to not always hope for 3 single hit the opposite way to score?
jakelovesgolf,
Sluggers get the girls AND THE MONEY!
To have a roster full of sluggers, you need a payroll like the White Sox, Dodgers, Angels, Tigers, Cubs, etc.
OR;
You have to draft high (by having terrible seasons)like the Rays, Marlins and Brewers, and then win championships before those high draft picks price themselves off the second list of teams onto the first list of teams.
and you have to draft well, unlike the streak they had earlier this decade/ end of the century. (the adam johnson, matt moses, et. al. years).
sane,
agreed up to a point: When you got sluggers (see: Ortiz, David), you just don’t try to teach them to hit the ball to the opposite field at all costs. The Twins’ philosophy is opposite field hitting, at least since 1998. I just got the Twins’ spray zone charts last week and I was surprised to see that Delmon Young has been hitting 23% of the balls to the RF, 20% to the CF and only 12% to the LF (these are Mauer-like numbers). I’d love to see his charts from Tampa last year, but if Vavra is trying to turn Young into Mauer with the bat, there will be problems… He needs to pull the ball, that’s where his power is.
we have seen that young is strong enough to hit a ball out of any park. but that is not the style of hitting he has as you’ve pointed out. is the reason they traded for him that he hit the twins way? that maybe had something to do with it. imo they look for the same thing in hitters as in their pitchers. not to many power pitchers, guys with control that pitch to contact. hitters that are contact type hitters, hit the other way, move runners over, same philosophy for both.
i guess that’s the “twins way”.
D. Young @ Tropicana Field 2007
21% LF
14% CF
21% RF
Power also pretty balanced
HRs 3-2-2 LF-CF-RF
2Bs 8-6 LF-RF
That’s just my quick count off the MLB spray chart. Small sample, definately not scientific.
gobble, I am not sure whether or not Young was trying to hit the ball at the opposite field while with the Rays, but the current Rays are 90% pull hitters (B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford the only notable exceptions)
The problem with hitting the other way is that when you are pressing and are a bit too fast to the ball, or if you get a slider breaking in, or a change up, you will get a tailor-made double play ball to the infield, instead of a foul ball (see: Mauer, Joe).
Interestingly enough Mauer is hitting changes ups at .140 and sliders from right handers (that break in to him as a lefthander) at .282. He is hitting sliders from lefthanders (that break away from him) at .351, fastballs at .360 and curves at .314.
Hitting on the opposite field is fine, but should be another weapon in the arsenal of a hitter instead of the only weapon. Change ups and sliders that are breaking in, can really neutralize that very quickly…
bison, thanks! this now makes sense as reduction of power goes this year.
My scouting report has 2174 pitches charted for Young, which is a decent sample… Another interesting thing about Young is that he hit 47% groundballs vs. 36% flyballs this year, which will happen if you are too early on a ball you try to hit at the opposite field or you try to hit balls inside at the opposite field. Do you have his GB/FB ratio from Tampa?
The Twins should dump Cuddyer and Punto before the 2009 season begins. Maybe they get a relief pitcher for them. Cuddyer is a curse on the Twins and Punto alway finds a way to flub up several games to prevent the team from having just enough wins for the division championship.
D. Young ground outs/fly outs 2006-2008
Year GO FO Ratio
2006 37 24 1.54
2007 178 155 1.30
2008 205 114 1.96
bison, those are the outs… got to include the hits as well, found it:
GB FB G/F
2006 49 28 1.75
2007 253 162 1.56
2008 263 134 1.96
What is interesting if you compare your numbers with mine is that he had 75 hits on groundballs in 2007 and only 58 in 2008, which makes me think that something is going on with the opposite field situation…
Earth to Vavra: quit doing that ![]()
Ground balls result when the hitter tries to pull an outside pitch by trying to get his bat-head outside of the pitch.
If you don’t believe that, ask your favorite reputable hitting instructor.
thrylos98:
Honest question. The difference between your 2008 numbers and mine is only 78 but he had 167 hits this year. Where are the other 89 balls?
that’s one way of groundballs to happen.
The key is to: pull inside pitches and pitches in the middle of the plate and hit to opposite field outside pitches and adjust on the fly based on the pitch (or your guess of the pitch).
The only thing Twins other than Morneau and Kubel are pulling is muscles…
bison, good question… I got my numbers here:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=6138
that’s what vara appears to teach. take a guy like punto how many hits does he actually get that reach the outfield in the air, how about gomez, span and casilla? i think it goes to how they draft and what they do in the minors. sane is probably right power guys are more expensive and they also aren’t as likely to move runners over and do the little things or the situational hitting that joe and gardy so covet.
but as an example, like last night, a couple of homeruns in an inning is a little better then a couple of singles.
Morneau and Kubel are the Twins only legitimate pull-hitting HR threats.
If you think the Twins can tie the White Sox again next year by changing their “philosophy” with their current personnel, you have lost it, man!
Morneau, Kubel and the Seven Dwarfs in a power battle with Thome, Konerko, Dye, Quentin, Swisher, Griffey, AJ, Ramirez, Cabrera, Uribe, and Crede would be a massacre!
The Twins way is the ONLY way that will work for the Twins current roster.
Mauer, Casilla, Punto, Span, Gomez, Harris and Young are not going to hit 15-20 HR apiece by changing their “philosophy”.
You can wrap bacon around a hot-dog, but that doesn’t make it Filet Mignon.
sane, no. Not with the current personnel. That’s why I think that they need a. 2 pull power hitters and b. Vavra to stop molding the young players to hit at the opposite field all the time. Both Gomez and Young showed some pull power this year (Young hit one at the left center balcony seats and the only other Twin I’ve seen hit one out there was Chili) Vavra should try to harvest that. You need a mix of power and small ball to succeed.
Speaking of the Sox, I am not sure that there will be a need to tie them next year ![]()
sane imo it starts with how they draft it always seems that they go for “toolsy” guys. once in a while one of those guys will hit some homeruns, i.e hunter, most of the time they will be what we have now. it would take yrs to change this team starting with a draft and 4-5 yrs until it filtered up to the twins.
ggg, thrylos98,
I agree that if the roster changes, the offensive philosophy could be changed.
But right now, Vavra has to play the cards in his hand.
And he’s not holding a straight flush.
isn’t it more like lipstick on a pig?
ggg,
Every man to his favorite metaphor!
The Twins should dump Cuddyer and Punto before the 2009 season begins. Maybe they get a relief pitcher for them.
This reminds me of people who were suggesting the Twins deal Silva and Hunter following the 2007 season.
T,
Silva and Hunter were free agents following the 2007 season ![]()
That’s why I was reminded of those people.
The Twins should dump Cuddyer and Punto before the 2009 season begins. Maybe they get a relief pitcher for them.
I’m not crazy. Just unstable. ![]()
gottcha… like the trade Everett and Reyes camp
I noticed the Twins draft “toolsy” guys, also. Five tool players. What is that fifth tool, anyway? (The wife thinks it might be a bat.)
1)Run
2)Throw
3)Hit
4)Catch
5) ? ? ?
MudCut,
there are 2 hits, here are the 5 tools:
hitting for average
hitting for power
running speed
arm strength
fielding ability
great move. we’re not paying him to smash homeruns or play a ton of games. he fills in during day games, plays well, and provides a key veteran leadership in the clubhouse. no-brainer, end of discussion
