Twins uniforms: Give us your likes and dislikes
Posted on November 25th, 2008 – 9:47 AMBy Joe Christensen
You can tell the hot stove is cool, when the beat writers are soliciting opinions about uniforms, but humor me here.
Talking to Justin Morneau and Glen Perkins, it sounds like the players are going to love the Twins’ new throwback uniforms and could lobby to wear them more than every Saturday at home.
Also, by 2010 more changes could be coming to the team’s uniform plan, though team president Dave St. Peter said he doesn’t foresee a major overhaul.
I’d like your thoughts on the five Twins’ uniforms for 2009. What do you like? What would you change, if anything (including hats, logos, pinstripes, script)? Are you furious the Twins aren’t bringing back the sansabelt pants?
A) Traditional pinstripe home uniform (Worn since 1987)
B) Traditional pinstripe road uniform (Worn since 1987)
C) Sleeveless tops (Worn for home games since 2006. Bat-Girl called these the pixie vests. The favored jersey of Carlos Silva, Livan Hernandez and Francisco Liriano.)
D) Twins navy blue alternate tops (Worn at home and road. Favored last season by Perkins and Kevin Slowey.)
E) The 1982 retro look, with red hats, button-down tops and real belts.
Update (10:05 a.m.): Baseball America’s Top 10 Twins prospect list has been released. A subscription is required to read the story, but here’s the list:
1. OF Aaron Hicks
2. OF Ben Revere
3. C Wilson Ramos
4. LHP Jose Mijares
5. 3B Danny Valencia
6. RHP Anthony Swarzak
7. RHP Shooter Hunt
8. RHP Kevin Mulvey
9. RHP Carlos Gutierrez
10. OF Angel Morales.

I thought it was pretty cool when the Twins brought out the powder blues a few times in Baltimore.
I could do without the Pixies though.
The Twins should go back to the pre-Dome unis permanently. They’re sweet!
I second the hope that we would see the powder blue!
I third the powder blues. They’re the best!
I would go back to the pinstripe button down uniforms the Twins wore in 1961. I would go for the 1982 white home and powder blue roads but only if they are skin-tight and the players wear the high stirrups and everyone has long hair and sideburns.
I love those ‘82 throwbacks. Pinstripes are nice and all, but the old-school lettering of earlier Twins uniforms are absolutely sweet.
Pixie vests are cool for some teams. The Twins aren’t one of those teams.
I like the powder blue as well. interesting that Shooter Hunt made the list.
Cant stand the red hats, personally
I like a Button up Powder Blue
I like the Navy Blues, especially the home uniform.
Must. Ditch. Pixie. Vests.
Also, dark blue alts worn WAAAYYYY too frequently last year.
Best uni-related hopes for 2009:
1) No pixie vests (see above).
2) No blue alts at home.
3) “Throwbacks” worn no more than once per series at home.
4) Powder blues for one or two away games.
The Twins redesigned their uni set shortly after moving into the dome. Here’s hoping they repeat that practice - after a few years in the new digs.
Best ideas:
1) Retire the “M” logo.
2) Remove player names from home jerseys.
3) Retire the road pinstripes.
4) Bring back the tri-color caps - as Mauer has done with his catching gear helmet.
How about the TC logo on the upper left chest like the Yankees NY?
in ref to the top 10 list where are all the infielders? who was the last infileder that played every day that they drafted, except mourny? koskie?
I hate the “pixie vests” they are so dumb looking and everytime I see Liriano wearing them I get scary flashbacks of Silva and Livan… I like the throwbacks, which is a nice tribute for the last year in the dome. Powder blues would be nice occasionally. As long as we don’t go to a “Target red” anything for this possible new design, I think we’ll be fine.
Yes. By all means get rid of the player names on the home jerseys. I have never gotten used to that. Fans are supposed to know the names of their own players.
I don’t think the team ever wore tri-color caps. Batting helmets, but not caps.
Hate the “M” logo. I do like the red caps once in a while though. I don’t believe they wore them at all last season.
Yeah, I figured for sure the Twins would break out the powder blues, not that I’m disappointed by the home white throwbacks. I hope Morneau is accurate when he says we’ll be seeing them more often than just Saturdays next year.
I’m all about mixing up the uniforms. I like that the old traditional home and road pinstripe unis are still in use, but nothing wrong with a handful of alternates.
Still, my favorite all-time Twins uniform was the seldom-worn red Sunday jerseys from 1997 or 1998, whatever year that was. I think the Twins went 0-4 wearing those uniforms and never went back, which is a shame!
It says a lot about the Twins 2008 Draft that all of their first three picks are already ranked in their top 10 prospects. Even the much maligned Carlos Gutierrez
Only one of the three non-Gomez players the Twins got from the Mets for Santana makes the top 10. Ouch.
I’d be ok with the powder blues worn occasionally on the road… maybe when the host team is doing a throw-back thing, too… but a little bit is plenty. Like too many sweets, too much powder blue doesn’t do it for me.
I like the throw-backs unveiled yesterday. For my tastes, just enough of the retro design but updated for this era (narrower piping, belted pants, button down jerseys). I’m not a big fan of the red caps, but the fact is, that’s what they wore with those uniforms so you have to go that way. I’m fine with that.
My recollection is that 1987, the first WS season, was the first year for the “new” uniform style. If that’s what it takes to bring a Series to the new ballpark, then go for it in 2010! My preference would be to come up with a new “Twins” style across the front, rather than going totally back to the old script. It’s fine for some throwback jersies, but not for a permanent change.
from mlb trade rumor:
A rival GM tells Rosenthal Twins outfielder Delmon Young is “very, very much out there.”
POWDER BLUE. and i think they should wear the red hats automatically with the blue alternates and any throw back uniform.
The sleeveless are fine, especially for hot outdoor games.
Also I remember the Red alternate home jersey from when Knoblauch was still with the team in either 94 or 95. those were horrible.
I think the pixie vests would look better if they weren’t pinstripe and were worn a bit tighter. You just can’t do a sleevless that loose…
Also, I think everyone should be wearing the short-pant-high-sock look, even if they look funny! Anyone remember Matthew LeCroy wearing the high socks? Hilarious!
I love the powder blue uni’s, and wouldn’t mind seeing them sporadically.
Yikes, I just realized I left out the word “Championship”, as in “… the first WS Championship season…” Wouldn’t want anyone to think I don’t remember 1965.
if they win. i like the jersey.. if they lose. i dont like it..
this isnt rocket science
I’ve always disliked the pinstripe road uniforms. Pinstripes should only be on home jerseys. The team needs a whole new road uniform.
I agree with most of the comments here. Hate the red hats. Like the powder blues. While I don’t like the look of the pixie vests, I recognize their utility. They are less constricting in the shoulders. I for one hate pants down to the shoe tops. I think all players should show some sock, if not the full-blown, Jim Thome knicker look.
See and I’m just the opposite. I like the road pinstripes but would be fine without them at home. Just plain old grey road uniforms have no style to them.
I like the throwback uni’s. Not a fan of the red hat, only with the throwbacks.
KC powder blue tops with white pants ok, for alternatives, the uniform should not be all blue though
Get rid of the “M” logo and Pinstripes and Pixies,YUCK.
Besides, as any woman would tell you, vertical stripes are “slimming”… and God knows we have a couple of guys who can use all the help they can get in that area (not to mention fans who buy and wear jerseys!).
The only bad thing about the Twins World Championship seasons were those brutal “M” hats. I wish those would be put away for ever. Hardly any fans wear them anymore so why are the players on the road? I like the ‘82 throw backs with the red hats. That should be the Sunday uniform in the new park as well. My current favorite is the road blue “MINNESOTA” jerseys.
One more thought before I head out for the day. My recollection of the 1960s home uniforms is that they weren’t exactly white-white. They were more of an “off white” with navy pinstripes and navy lettering. I wouldn’t mind seeing something similar return when the new ballpark opens in 2010.
How about we bring the orange jersey’s back from 10 years ago haha. I actually didn’t mind them - except we lost every time we wore them haha.
Powder Blue…Powder Blue…Powder Blue!
I love the red hats! Brings back childhood memories…they should also bring back the multi-color helmets from the 60s (like Mauer/Redmond wore when catching).
Maybe they could bring back the red DQ jerseys that they wore on Sundays back in ‘93-94. I have a Molitor “action figure” wearing the red uni - was by far the worst uni they had.
I’m with cmat i hat the Manny pants look it looks sloppy to me.
One more thing the whole idea behind uniforms is uniformity. Every players uniform should look the same I hate seeing one guy with a vest and one guy with long sleeves and one guy with his pants up and one guy with he’s hat off center.
Sorry just an old military guy spouting off.
I believe my husband refers to the sleeveless ones as the wife-beater jerseys…
I hated the pre-1987 uniforms at the time, and don’t want to see them worn now. At least they will be wearing belts. The pixies can also go. Stick to the traditional pin stripes and road grays.
Powder blue is the way to go. Will Marney Gellner be wearing one too?
Okay here are my ideas:
1. Keep the regular home and road uniforms the way they are and they can wear them as their main jersey
2. add an alternate red jersey for either home or road. I know they tried it a few years ago and it didn’t go over well then but maybe with some tweaking it could work. Like possibly instead of saying “Twins” or “Minnesota” they could just have the “TC” logo on the right side and the players number on the left or vice versa. You could also have this design in white for home jerseys. On these you could nix the pinstripes.
3. keep the red hats and get rid of the “m” logo. I agree with everyone the “m” must go.
4. have hats that are blue with red bills.
5. You could go with the sleeveless uniforms, just make the design on the shirt different than the regular home jerseys, maybe make them look like Cleveland’s do.
6. Even though it’s not one of our colors, maybe a black jersey would be cool.
7. Some version of what they had back in the 60’s would be a good thing too I think. Also bringing the powder blue back I think would be pretty sweet.
That’s all I have right now.
I hate the powder blue and dislike the “new” retro whites almost as much…but at least I won’t have to see those disgusting powder blues. The Twins should always wear pinstripes at home since they did throughout the ’60s when they wore an excellent, tradional and professional looking baseball uniform at home and on the road. The current uniform isn’t bad either…the one they’ve worn since abandoning the objectionalble sansabelt polyesters of the 70’s. I don’t much care for the sleeveless jerseys and I hate the softball looking navy blue tops. Being a baseball purist I wish they would stick with one uniform….forever. I’m no Yankee fan, but I really appreciate that they (Yankees) have stuck with the same uniform forever. The same with the Bears & Packers, etc in football. I hate the pansy uniform the Vikings now wear compared to their old traditional Vikings uniform of their storied past. I wish the Gophers would go back to the uniform they wore when they last won (shared) the Big Ten title in 1967 with the Striped Helmet and pants. The Gophers absolutely should be wearing a Gold Helmet with Maroon stripes separated by a white strip….pants should be the same. Old School….and a great look that cries out…GOPHERS!
I like the idea of having just the TC logo in the upper corner of the chest with no number and pinstripes as an alternate home jersey. That could even work as a sleevless design. The M logo should never be worn.No red hats, too many teams waer them.
Flashback to yesterday’s thread.
BA writeup on Aaron Hicks:
Background: Hicks is a Los Angeles kid who doesn’t fit into preconceived stereotypes. He’s an African-American who spent much of the last three years playing at Major League Baseball’s Urban Youth Academy, becoming its highest-drafted alumnus when the Twins took him 14th overall in June. He’s also a scratch golfer who won a slew of tournaments as a teenager and considered a golf career. When he learned that his father played baseball professionally—Joseph Hicks was a Padres 12th-round pick in 1975 and played four seasons in the minors—he decided to focus his prodigious athletic ability on the diamond, helping Wilson High win the No. 1 national ranking and its first California Interscholastic Federation title in 50 years in 2007. Minnesota considered Hicks the best athlete in the 2008 draft, and he was the Los Angeles area’s best since Darryl Strawberry was the No. 1 overall choice in June 1980. While the Twins preferred Hicks as an outfielder, other clubs were prepared to take him in the first round as a pitcher after seeing his fastball range from 94-97 mph last spring. Minnesota has no reason to question its decision, as Hicks ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League after signing quickly for $1.78 million.
Strengths: Sometimes it seems like there’s nothing Hicks can’t do. He’s a premium athlete with growing skills and true five-tool ability. He’s a switch-hitter who’s a natural from the right side and improved from the left by lowering his hands and unleashing his bat speed. He was more polished and selective at the plate in his debut than the Twins thought he might be, and his eye allowed him to get to his above-average power potential earlier than expected. He projects to hit 20-25 homers annually as he matures. Hicks has plus-plus speed and good baserunning instincts that should improve with experience. He glides to balls in the outfield and has a top-of-the-scale throwing arm that would play in any outfield spot or on the mound if necessary. In the unlikely event he doesn’t hit, he can try to make it as a pitcher.
Weaknesses: Mostly, Hicks just needs experience facing quality breaking balls. His hands are good enough that he should be able to trust them and stay back on pitches that spin. The game comes so easily to him that at time he has concentration lapses. He’s still learning to be a pro in terms of handling the grind of a long season, when to show he’s having fun and when to have more of a game face.
The Future: Hicks’ tools resemble those of departed Twins center fielder Torii Hunter, though he should move more quickly through the minors than Hunter did and have better plate discipline. Minnesota is deep in young outfielders in the majors and minors, but Hicks’ combination of tools, skills and athletic ability stands out. He’ll head to low Class A Beloit for his first full pro season and should make a steady climb to the majors, arriving in 2011.
I can’t stand the sleeveless ones.
thanks for the Hicks write-up sane.
2011 for Hicks, that seems to project a bit fast. I like that they’re high on him. Makes one wonder what the Twins are going to have on their hands with Revere, Gomez, Span, Hicks all under club controls for years.
Love the retro pants they unvailed.
Hicks, Revere, Morales… in a system with 3 OFs under 25- two of which are really CFs.
I like the outfield depth we have been able to put together over the past 2 years. That said, I would be in favor of seeing what Revere could do at 2B.
Anything but those hideous powder blues is OK with me.
bring back the stirrups.
The jersey is really a throwback to 1972, not 1982. The home uniform in 1972 and 1973 was a white button up. From 1974 through 1986 it was a pullover.
The red jerseys were only worn in 1997 and for Sunday home games only. They lost badly wearing them and were ditched.
My opinion - If you are going to try something, try something new. Enough with the throwbacks. And what is the deal with jerseys that can only be white, navy blue, or grey? Other colors exist. For example maybe a forest green home jersey for the new outdoor stadium. Think about it.
POWDER BLUE!!!!!
pullover style, youve gotta love it.
Pin stripes were used when the team moved from DC up until the early 70’s, when the “ugly softball” uniforms, which many of you called “sweet” etc., were used. Those were mediocre years and very bad uniforms.
powder blues must be on the list.
I think they should go back to the old grey uniforms of Tony, Killer and Crew. Those are so much better than the powder blues. I love the idea of the TC hats as long as the are not the red billed ones and all blue. I also think that the blue leggings and white socks need to comeback. No TC in the upper corner of the pinstripes…why look like the Yankees…puke. I also love the idea of the white helmets like Joe and Redman where…the other thing I love is that we get to start talking baseball in November!!!!!!!!!!
AS for DY I hope he is traded but my fear is they will keep him and let Cuddy go becasue of age and injuries.
How about getting a power hitting 3B????
Let the players decide, they have to wear them.
If Perk and Justin want to wear the new throwbacks more frequently, make it so.
I miss baseball already….
The pretty powder blue really made the guys look cute. They just need to accent it with nice floral letter on the back, some lovely pink sleeves, and a darling little mauve hat. They would look absolutely gorgeous!!!
I’m a traditionalist, but I like the way they incorperated the ’80’s color scheme and mixed in the button down jersey and belt.I am also not in favor of the pants all the way down to the shoe look.
Bring back the classic mid 1960’s stirrup look, with about three inches of dark at the top of the pant before it goes to stirrup, with a significant amount of sanitary sock being shown.I do not like the all dark knee high look that A-Rod wears.I would also be in favor of ditching the pinstripes on the main road uniforms and going with traditional road grey.
Joe you are right,we need some transaction action to talk about.A trade or a Blake signing would get us back to ranting and raving again!
I’m in partial agreement with dknute in being a “purist” about jerseys.
Baseball has a storied tradition, and teams like the Blue Jays look absolutely ridiculous with the uniforms they use.
I’m a bit surprised at the delegation that doesn’t like the navy blue jerseys. I think it looks sharp and is a nice change from the regulars.
The grey pinstripe is crap. I’m fine with the pants, but not the full uniform.
A navy blue cap with red bill is very intriguing. I am not a proponent of the red cap as so many others are. I think with the new stadium should come that hat as an alternative.
No one has mentioned the fact that the pitcher decides what uniform is worn. I’m fine okay with cut-off, but it should be with the stipulation that a regular tee should be worn underneath, not the nike “under armor” shirts. As far as the fitting is concerned, that is up to each individual player in how loose or tight the prefer their uniforms.
I really like the use of the “throw back” for Saturday home games. It gives a consistency that is nice like how the Brewers wear their throw backs for Sunday home games.
The Twins road blue alts are my favorite Twins jersey.
I do actually still wear the M hat-since I see the Twins on the road more often then in MN I like to match what the players wear, even down to the jersey (so I like knowing the jerseys each pitcher prefers).
Having invested a lot in authentic customized Twins jerseys, part of me doesn’t want any changes in 2010, but the other part wants to see if the Twins can come up with a completely new look t hat gets away from blue and red (since so many teams use blue and/or red)
I like the red hats though but never bought a newer version since the Twins have worn them like 3-4 times since they brought them back as a 3rd hat a few years ago.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the red home alt return. I saw a guy with a game worn red alt at a game in Chicago and I almost wanted to make an offer on it. Red alt jerseys are more popular now than they were in 1997, so it could work plus it would help distinguish the home alt from the road blue alt.
As for the 1982 throwbacks-part of me wants to buy a nice Morneau jersey, but part of me thinks it’s stupid to do it for 1 year. I like them though but am glad not to see the powder blues (yet I own some Twins stuff in powder blue, so go figure.
One question-will the Twins actually pony up for red batting helmets to match (since they are too cheap to have matching batting helmets on the road)?
The best Twins uniform was their first. The TC, however, has never looked good and makes no sense, since it isn’t the Twin Cities Twins. They copied Cincinnati’s C, for heavens’ sake. Keep the two guys shaking hands over the river–that’s so dorky it’s cool. And those 70s uniforms looked lousy even in the 70s. The Twins desperately need a good design firm, and it’s not like there aren’t any in the area. Hire whomever did the Wild’s stuff, which looks great despite the dumb name.
If JM is seriously into the throwbacks then he should cuff the pants and go high stirrups.*
*not high socks, those look ridiculous. Stirrups.
If they resign Punto will he be wearing thicker pinstripes then the rest of the team?
Alt-blue tops must go. Makes the team look like a bunch of softball players. Not remotely a professional look.
As someone who was born the same year as the Metrodome here are thoughts:
1.) No more pinstripe grey….Yuck!!!!
2.) More Retro: Look at the Blue Jays, they bust out the powder blue at home, why not have us do the same on Sundays?
3.) Bring back a modified 60’s style jersey, with the classic navy blue lettering.
4.) No more ‘M’ logo
5.) No more vests
6.) No more red hats
7.) Look to the Phili’s style retro home jersey’s, its best to leave out pinstripes if your from the expansion erra.
The retro unis look great. I’ve always hated the current Twins unis. The Twins lettering on the chest is too big. The unis overall are just so stale. I’d love if they permanently went with more of a classic look, similar to the retro unis. Joe C…. PLEASE let management know the fans think the current unis are too 90’s!
The new retro uni’s are great, just get rid of the red hats. Also, the sleeveless jerseys would be a lot better with a “TC” logo on the left chest rather than the HUGE Twins lettering. And, retire the “M” logo permanently.
I love the pinstripes - home and away. Alternate blue tops are even better! Throwbacks are good, but only occassionally.
Calvin Griffith proposed to call the team the “Twin Cities Twins” but League rejected the name; however, the caps and uniforms were already ordered.
The other story is that the “TC” stands for Thelma (Griffith’s sister) and Calvin.
I was 10 when the Twins came to Minnesota, so have seen many versions of the uniforms over the years, some great, some horrible and others….well, never mind.
Thouhgts:
1) Pinstrip grey — not a fan
2) Never liked the “M” logo — lose it
3) I like the sleeveless tops on occasions, reminds me of Cincinnati and Pirates which were classic looks.
4) Blue tops are also good on occasion, as reminds me of Oakland A’s dark green which were the first I believe to finally bringa bit of bright color to baseball, even if Charlie O did not get his colored baseballs.
4) You can lose the names at home, as you should know who your team is if you are a fan
5) Make the “red hats” the Sunday hat, like Philly does with their red and blue Sunday hats and Sunday cream colored uniforms.
6) and gotta have the logo with the guys shaking hands..
MWS
Pinstripes all the way, and no M’s! But I can never forget the polyester powder blue uni’s that Kirby and Herbie wore and looked so slim and fit, LOL! ! !
Well, I really like the retro outfits. I think its a classy way to close out their 26 years at the Dome! I think it would be neat if they’d just wear them at every home game.
And if they are going to introduce new outfits to go along with the new stadium, PLEASE stick to whatever that new outfit is: ONE new home uniform, ONE new road uniform, and ONE new ballcap. This mish-mash of styles they have that differs from game-to-game is stupid. I’m afraid if they create a new outfit, new logo…etc, they’ll incorporate that along with the old TC logo and “m” logo outfits. Stick to one for crying out loud.
For a new hat suggestion, I like the old school look of Joe Mauers catching helmet, with the red brim, blue sides and white front with the TC logo.
No navy jersies - beerball anyone?; No sleeve-less - see navy jersies above; no red - doesn’t require a comment. Powder blue is okay on rare occasions but calling it old school is ridiculous. Tradition is important in baseball. I would like to see the early 60’s uniforms as the everyday ones; navy pinstripes on off-white, no names on jersey for home games; solid gray, navy logo for road.
Tony,
Except the Twins really aren’t from the expansion era. The Senators wore pinstripes for years before coming to MN. I mean the Twins first uniforms were exactly the same as the Senators before their move to MN, except it said Twins on the front instead of Senators.
I do think the road pinstripes could go-but like I said before that road blue alt is beautiful. Love seeing Minnesota in white lettering, and the red border around the letters on Minnesota and the player name is sharp.
HOFBert-rumors stated the vest was supposed to originally have the TC on the chest. That would have worked better than just taking the normal home uni and chopping the sleeves off. Although the vests are pretty comfy to wear (and yes I have an authentic one).
It would be interesting to know the ages of the people posting. The uniforms from the 70’s and early 80’s (YES, I’m talking the plain whites at home and powder blues on the road) were PUTRID, ATROCIOUS, and BEYOND UGLY!! That was the case all over baseball, not just here. If you need proof, check out the Astros, Mariners, Blue Jays, Athletics, Pirates and more.
The sleeveless top is a truly retro look. Take a look at photos of Bill Mazeroski rounding the bases in 1960; no sleeves there. How about Maris when he was hitting 61 in ‘61; no sleeves.
The pinstripes are classy and sharp. As much as you have to hate the Yankees, even Cecil Fielder looked good in a Yankee uniform.
The TC on the left chest with pinstripes would be a nice look.
The three color hats and helmets are also relics from the 70’s and early 80’s that are best permanently retired and never allowed to see the light of day again.
That KC and Milwaukee have powder blue uniforms should be enough of a case against them.
My favorite image of the sleeveless jersey is of Ted Kluszewski of the Reds wearing the sleeveless jersey - with no undershirt. His arms were the size of Punto’s legs.
it’s going to be a looooooooong winter if the last week in nov. the only thing to talk about is uniforms!!
I am still waiting for the Twins to acquire a washed up used up has been this winter.
Talking about these retro and old outfits from teams gone by remind me of when my brother and I were little, my Mom let us buy these little paintable baseball players (they looked like bobbleheads). For whatever team you chose, the figure came with the correct paints and decals. I think they had them at Woolworths and stuff, this was late 70’s. Anybody remember those?

No Humber?
No Kidding… why no chatter on the BA list?
The Twins should fashion the new uniforms after this one (uniform) made famous by Bill”The Spaceman” Lee
http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/cover/2006/cover0609d.jpg
Where is Luke Hughes on the BA list? They must be punishing him for his defense.
The vests got to go.
The powder blues should have been buried with disco music.
I don’t mind the retro ‘82 uniforms and it is a great thought to wear them the last year in the dome. Interestingly enough they look very similar to the new 2009 home uniforms of the Nationals.
They need another uniform of sorts, esp for the road. The pinstripes are just old. I think that the coolest jersey in the organization is the Red Wing black ( http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2204991&cp=2011289.2220911 ) They can do something similar for their alternate… will look much better
No Luke Hughes on the list? that was a suprise
Why would you? He’s out of options and hasn’t earned his way to the bigs yet.
Here’s a photo of the best looking uniforms in the WORLD! And that year they were the best TEAM in the WORLD!
(His license plate said “Chili Dawg”)
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/chili_davis_autograph.jpg
i’m ok with that top 10 list. but where is slama? i know he was older than most at A ball last year, but his numbers alone should get him in and not Gutierrez.
I’m not surprised about Hughes… seems to me his upside is Buscher with a tad more power. That isn’t much to be excited about considering we already have Buscher.
thrylos98 It looks like it should say Chico’s Bail Bonds on the Red Wings jersey. The Jersey I actually like are the old pirates jersey’s
1. Just say NO to powder blue.
2. I’ve never liked the blue alternates…they look so softball to me.
3. Pixie vests were as uninteresting as can be: the home whites sans sleeves. Woo woo.
4. I’d like to see them do a whole renovation of their logos, unis, etc. for the new ballpark.
My guess is that Hughes and Plouffe are 11 and 12 (or close)… I would guess Slama and Delaney are in that next tier as well… I think Mijares is way too high because of nine big league games. He should really be in the same category as Delaney and Slama.
Best current home/road uniform combo in the Majors is Detroit.
http://sportsmn.blogspot.com/2008/01/new-twins-uniforms.html
Some of that stuff is not formatted like a real jersey…but what about something like these?
there are a couple of interesting things in the BA article snippet, which make me question how much time BA writers actually spent around the organization last year:
a. They list Tolbert as the best defensive infielder in the organization. They apparently spent some time in Ft. Myers (they list Yancarlos Ortiz as the best infield arm) and New Britain and should actually realized that Brian Dinkelman (for starters) has better range and is more sure handed second baseman than Tolbert.
b. In their projected 2012 lineup, they list Slowey as the #3 starter behind Liriano and Baker. The fact that a guy who led the majors in K/BB with a ridiculous 5.13 (for comparison, in his 4 Cy Young years, Greg Maddux averaged a K/BB of 4.16) is slated as a third starter behind Baker (and arguably Liriano) is pretty questionable…
They suck. Just like Thrylos98……..
A) & B) Love ‘em keep ‘em don’t change ‘em. it is nice to have some continuity in the modern era
C) find every single one and throw it in the garbage. cause our sleeveless jerseys look like trash
D) the blues are still kinda cool, but they should have a limit of once a week
E) the new retro’s look awesome
If you scroll down near the bottom you see the official 2010 Jerseys:
onthemark Where are the Twins jerseys oon there???
Hey Seth any thoughts on how long it will take Hughes to make it.
Please ditch the powder blues! Talk about bush league. They look like softball uniforms. The dark blue tops should also go. They look like practice unies. The new Saturday whites are OK for this last season in the Dome. Bring back the original pinstrips with belts and buttons next year. They would be a great way to launch the first season in the new stadium.
[…] Around the Majors – […]
BC of ND,
IMO Hughes will NEVER make it as an infielder.
He will make it as an outfielder when he can out-hit the the Twins MLB outfielders.
Just my opinion.
Jimmy Bee-
They’re next to the Brewers Jersey
Joe C,
You do a FANTASTIC job keeping us entertained all year, through spring training and all the way up to the World Series. You are truly fantastic and I as a fan have grown as good human being thanks to you and your good soul.
But is this a joke?? i’m dying here wondering what the Twins are going to do with this lineup!!! This is discussion about wardrobe is kind of a reach!
Dont get me robe, i too can feel fascination about the uniforms, as my wife will attest to by my growing cap collection. However, is this site turning into the Fashion Network??
I need a “comment” or a “no comment” from the agents for the power hitting RH free agent potential DHers out there that we all KNOW the FO would never pursue due to financial reasons and who we know dont want to come here even if the FO wants them, but what the heck it still makes my day….
sane,
never say never
Brian Buscher was the Twins starting third baseman for the second half of the year and Hughes is arguably a better fielder than Buscher.
onthemark:
It’s amazing what people thought of the future as “recently” as 10 years ago.
Those uniforms are hideous!
danimals:
Joe C can’t report news if there isn’t any to report. After all, this isn’t CNN or FOX News.
Sane i agree on Hughes i meant to ask about Hicks do you think he’ll be ready by 2011?
onthemark Unlike T I kind of like the uniforms from your link. It looks futuristic like saturn is behind them or something.
t that is why blogs are mostly made up of rumors and uninformed speculation. need something to talk about.
The “M” hat logo reminds me of bad rookies and washed up veterans. Keep the Pixies ONLY of it is not an exact copy of regular uniforms. For pixies, drop pinstripes and add TC logo right side of chest.
“Hey Seth any thoughts on how long it will take Hughes to make it.”
He will play for the Twins in 2009.
On Hicks - Don’t be surprised if he goes on the same schedule as Revere… Remember, he was supposed to go to E-Town in 2008. That said, I think that Hicks will go to Beloit in 2009… spend the whole year… half year in Ft. Myers, year in New Britain, half year in Rochester… that puts him at late 2011 as the quickest timeline… 2012 more likely.
thrylos,
I think that Buscher’s defensive problems were unexpected before they were exposed this year.
He had only joined the Twins organization the previous year.
Hughes’ has been in the Twins organization for six years and his deficiencies have all been revealed.
sane why don’t the Twins pick up Furcal and Hardy and solidify the infield for years to come?
BC of ND,
Hicks will rise fast, if he hits well at every level.
Every other piece of the puzzle is in place. He can do everything else at the MLB level right now.
But hitting MLB pitching is difficult for a kid that just turned 19-yrs-old.
I would guess that 2011 is very optimistic, but if he hits every year like last year, it could happen.
This article made me realize that the team may opt for a new uniform for the new stadium. It has also got me worried about what horrible abomination they might come up to celebrate a new stadium with.
I’m genuinely scared here. A bad uniform design is like a bad haircut - except a bad uniform doesn’t grow out. You are stuck with it for years.
The new uniforms are kind of fun. Which is odd, because whenever I look through all my older Twins baseball cards I cringe whenever I see them. Especially the powder blue ones. I must admit, the uniform that Morneau is wearing does look pretty good. Maybe it was the pullovers and elastic waistbands that made them look so awful.
Personally, I like the pinstripes. I would hate to see them go.
I think if they absolutely have to change uniforms permanently, they should go with some kind of version of the 60’s design. Not necessarily a total retro look, but start there and bring it into the present day. Start 2010 with a uniform reminiscent of when the team used to play outdoors.
My last thought is if the 2008 Twins play like the 1982 Twins when they wear the retro uniforms, they should be ditched immediately and never brought back in any way, shape or form ever again.
I love the throwbacks, always waited to have something like that once in a while. I also think they should bring back the powder blues! Those are my favorites.
As for the road games, I think we should get the Navy color going a bit more!
Is it just me or do the 2010 uniforms remind anyone of the old Met’s uniforms a bit
jimmy,
Th Twins will have to give up MORE than many other interested teams to get Hardy and many of those teams have more to offer the Brewers than the Twins do.
I don’t think that can happen.
Furcal will also go at a very high cost.
More likely, but still unlikely.
I think the twins will sit on there hands and get no one new for next year. That is my prediction
I love Furcal but not at 4 years/52 mill.
The Twins should have went with Pre-Dome uniforms, when baseball was played in open air and on grass. Good riddance to the Metrodome…lets forget baseball was ever played in that football stadium.
I can’t stand people who complain about the new stadium not having a roof. I can’t wait to sit in the elements and watch baseball. All whiners can stay home and watch FSN.
jimmy,
If the Twins DO sit on their hands this offseason, they will still be a much-improved team because their young players will improve.
Sitting on their hands is my choice.
That’s interesting on Hicks thanks guys I always wonder if it’s more the orginization that keeps players down or there actual development. The reason i ask is i know the Mariners for example didn’t keep Griffey or A-rod down very long.
sane why are the Twins so money hungry. I hate players like A-Rod for being this way. But on second hand I can not see why the Twins don’t pickup 1 decent well needed player who is not a washed up has been.
Does anyone know if someone bought the A’s. They are talking about picking up Furcal and they already picked up Holladay.
Griffey and A-Rod are both Inner Circle hall of famers, they are exceptions to the rules, any rules. They came up at 19.
But BJ Upton came up at 19, and that didnt’ work so well. 2007 was the first year he did much. Justin Upton was one of baseball’s worst hitters in 2008 after coming up in 2007 at 19. The Tigers brought up Cameron Maybin in 2007 at 19, and that certainly didn’t make sense.
Could Hicks be the next Griffey or A-Rod? Maybe, but he just needs to develop as he develops.
BC,
A-Rod and Griffey are anomalies.
No Twin prospects have ever had that kind of talent.
Jimmy,
To get a decent player, you USUALLY have to give up equal talent.
Many think Blake is a “washed-up has-been”
I think he is better than that, but I think Brendan Harris is almost as good and much younger.
I think I agree with sane. This is one offseason where sitting on their hands won’t be as detrimental as in other years. The outfield is fine, we have a serviceable DH(s), starting rotation is fine, 3/5 of the infield is fine. I can understand signing Blake but I’d also like to see if Buscher can continue to improve and what Harris would do with the starting SS job.
sane is Cassilla the next Chase Utley? LOL. I think they should at least pick up Blake
Sane,
Do you thing Harris has as much power as Blake?
I don’t think the team should make a move just to make a move. I like Blake but i can see the team going Harris/Buscher. I’d like to see a trade for a Hardy if it is fair. I don’t think it would be the worst to go status quo however. If they don’t sign anyone, they should work on a Mauer extension.
Why don’t we get Blake and K Rod to set up Nathan for an awesome 1-2 punch
Janet,
I think Harris will have Blake-type power in 1-2 years.
jimmy,
K-Rod will no be a setup man for ANYBODY!
Reasons - ego and salary - ego is #1!
Why do I think Cheapo Pohlad is not going to sign any FA’s even when the money is rolling in from the new ballpark. I thought that the upward spike in revenue was going to get the Twins more money and allow them to sign the FA’s needed in order to win the WS
Ken Rosenthal is floating Delmon’s name again. Phillies need a LF and they have Jason Donald.
How about a RH relief pitcher and Donald for Young?
I bet the Twins would seriously consider.
jimmy,
Spending money for the sole purpose of spending money is a waste.
If someone offers a great deal, and money is the only obstacle, THEN SPEND THE MONEY!
Spending money just to shut up the bitching fans is pointless.
First things first. Ditch those god awful road hats with the “M”. Why in the world do we have to wear different hats for the road?
sane the Twins always seem to get to the hump and at the end of each year it is usually obvious what the twins are in need of. Next thing you know they do nothing to address the issue’s needing to be addressed. Just seems like a case of almost but just not good enough this year but just wait till next year when we don’t address the same issue’s next year we will just end up shoulda coulda woulda.
Thanks Sane.
The infield was in a great deal of influx to start last year, now with Cassilla set at 2nd, maybe the Twins should give Harris a chance at 3rd. I do like Blake as well
Why the H would anyone want to go back to 1982–it was hardly the golden age of the franchise or the dome which was not even air conditioned for that first season. And on their way into that hot barn fans would have to step over discarded local newspapers telling tales about calvin moving the team to tampa. Yeah. Let’s set the flux capacitor to that nonsense. Only in brain dead minnesota. In short I hate these things–the whole idea is dumb. I guess no one has ever really noticed that the first year the twins discarded their past uni’s and changed to the more traditional and far more aesthetically pleasing white/grey/pinstripes with the “m” logo they won the first ever world series in franchise history. Coincidence? Hmmmm. Dump these things and that stupid loser “TC” logo and stick solely to the white/grey pinstripes with the “m” logo. Such lack of uniform diversity doesn’t seem to hurt the yankees much (26 rings).
Just remember the new jimmy bee quote
“Brand new stadium same old Cheap Pohlad”
I agree that the Twins should have fixed the bullpen when Neshek and Rincon disappeared last year.
I hope they improve their reaction time in the future.
there is no excuse not to spend money…. if what you are spending the money on is an upgrade and is a fair price.
Jimmy,
So, K-ROD, who will want major cabbage, who just came off a record-setting season, who is losing bite on his slider and giddy-up on his fastball, makes sense how? Go back to playing “Baseball Stars” in your basement.
The Twins should give up alot for Hardy; who cares? Blackburn,Tyler Robertson, Cuddyer, and Harris for Hardy and a AA prospect. Done and done.
Slowey favored the dark blue unis in the Dome- and he pitched pretty well at home, so I associate those unis with winning. I vote to keep the navy in hopes of more winning.
I agree with sane signing a guy like Blake who isn’t a bad player to a three or four year deal that i assume he wants only stunts the development of another prospect who might be just as good if not better.
Has this been Discussed yet?
Cuddy to the Cubs?
for??
fontenot and ??
How about a RH relief pitcher and Donald for Young?
Not even if the RH reliever was Brad Lidge… Jason Donald hasn’t spent an inning above AA ball and is not quite a magician with the leather.
I could maybe buy a Rollins for Young swap, but Rollins away from Philly is not the same and there might be some signs that he is in decline.
Actually the Twins reaction time was slow in many instances last year:
1) Livan out - Liriano in at SP
2) Gomez - Span leadoff man switch
3) Neshek/Rincon replacements
4) Lamb out - Buscher/Harris in at 3B.
5) Monroe out - Ruiz in at RH-DH.
Yeah, the Twins will need some bullpen help this year. Question is, how many pitchers do we carry? We can’t carry five OF…just can’t do it if you have 12 pitchers.
Liriano
Baker
Slowey
Perkins
Blackburn
Guerrier
Bonser
Crain
Mijares
Breslow
Nathan
Looks fine to me. I’d be pissed if they got rid of Delmon this early. Seriously…
Richard - Bud Selig hates the Twins and he at one time and I don’t know about now still but he owned part of the Brewer’s. Hardy is a Brewer. Cheapo Pohlad and corrupt Selig wouldn’t do this trade. Pohlad gathers money from surrounding areas and hides it in his pillows at home in the form of pennies. No good crook Selig hates Pohlad’s penny pinching ways and would like to steal Cheapo’s pennies and keep them for himself from the surrounding areas instead of Cheapo getting the pennies Crook Selig would. Moral to the story is Hardy becomes a Twin right after we get A-Rod.
I say trade off Perk or Blackburn and some other prospects for infield help and let Humber and Swarzak duke it out for the #5 spot.
jimmy,
Great conspiracy theory.
Did Selig and Pohlad shoot JFK before they got into baseball?
trade
Cuddy/boof for marshall/fontenot
fontenot can play short.
then we flip some pitching for a 3B
and no. we wont be able to get aramis
Jimmy,
Good point on Selig hating the Twins. Totally overlooked that. But, and correct me if I’m wrong, Cuddy makes more than Hardy, so your whole Cheapo meme is an unclever non-starter. Also, you’re premise is all well and good, but you also suppose that Selig has final say in personel decisions…and you don’t know that. Oh, and you’re argument also is awful, disjointed, and ridiculous. Especially the A-Rod part.
MH, the Cubs are looking for a lefty outfield bat…
There are too many ifs on this team out of all the players Mauer, Morneau, Nathan and Baker are the only safe bets to perform as well if not better than last year and Baker i’m not %100 sure either. Last year was a good year for a young team but to think there’s ony one or two missing pieces to make a championship team is way off IMO.
best option right now is young to the braves for escobar and some combo of prospects. braves have 4 middle infielders in johnson, escobar, prado and lillibridge and no decent left fielder. their best of’r last yr was francoeur and his 11 hr and 71 rbi are equal to youngs but his ave, obp and slg are all around 50 points lower and he is in a hitters park with young in a pitchers park. young would be their best hitting of’r right away and they have ready replacements for escobar. or replace young with span, they have kotsay playing center now which can’t be that good. escobar at ss they can get by with harris/buscher at 3b.
oops forgot talking about uniforms today, sorry!
ggg,
Nobody wants to hear my fashion suggestions after they see the rags that I wear.
So, I’ll stay with baseball.
Wow! That is a great new stadium but it’s still owned by the same old chepo Pohlad.
sane are the fires out yet? I read the LA times and Pasadena Star News and haven’t heard much
Richard I couldn’t hear you as I am in my basement playing dancing with the stars
JJ Hardy is not a good fit for the Twins.
Gardy’s nickname for him would have to be Hardee-ee.
That just won’t work.
Hardee-zee doesn’t do it for ya?
Hard-Lee like the odds of the Twins getting him away from no good crook Selig and the Brewer’s
I love the new uniform. I’m old enough to have remembered the Met, and if any of you ever had the last EA Sports Baseball game with Manny Ramierez on it, they have a section with old stadiums, and you can actually play games at the old Met Stadium… So to see the new versions of the old uniforms I am happy.
BC Beneke X Box 360 which MLB version?
Bud Selig no longer owns the Brewers guys, c’mon get over it!
If the Twins don’t get JJ Hardy it will be because BS won’t want to pony up to what Milwaukee wants.
I like the pinstripes. They remind me of championships past…and I don’t mean the New York variety. I like both cap logos and have one of each. Hate the sleeveless; this isn’t basketball. The navy blue looks like practice jerseys. The retro look is a throwback to hard times for the Twins…but I don’t think that means it will cause them any bad luck. Just my two cents.
The Blue TC cap is classic. Dont mess with it. The Blue TC cap represents THE franchise.
The return of the powder blues occassionally wouldnt be a bad thing. The ‘82 retro unis for Saturdays don’t do a thing for me.
I’m a traditionalist and I like the 87 unis they still wear. If they were going to add any wrinkles at all, I think the original pinstripe & grey unis they wore throughout the 60s to about 1971 were the best uniforms they ever wore.
I will echo the Powder Blues for the bjillionth time. They are my all-time favorite Twins uni. The red cap does it for me as well. And I would love to see the tri-colored batting helmets back in play.
The road grays need pinstripes or they look like beer-league softball uniforms.
I have an un-numbered red jersey from the ill-fated run. Got it at a serious discount after that season, and still wear it with absolutely no pride quite regularly.
Also, I haven’t read all the posts so this might have been covered, the EA Sports game with Ramirez on it has the option to use the Twins uniforms that they are bringing back - both the whites and powder blues. Fantastic.
I am not a fan of Pinstripe, powderblue or the “M”. A lot of posting that people like the classic pinstripe uniform.
The best classic uniform is the Dodgers.
On the days when the Twins wear their alternate blue jerseys, they should wear white or gray (for road games) pants without pinstripes. The way they currently do it makes it look like the Twins are too cheap to provide a complete alternate uniform when they wear the pinstripe pants with the blue jerseys.
The new throwbacks “sweet”
Pixies must go!! I care nothing about fassion, but yet hate the pixies to the point of turning off game. Maybe they remind me of Levo.
Just can’t seem to get psyched about uniforms when images of Ben Revere, All-Star 2B for the perennial World Champion Twins, keep popping into my head….
Jimmy Bee - It’s the EA Sports last baseball game before MLB went exclussive with a lesser brand (EA Sports rocked!).
I think it’s 2005 (has Manny Ramierez on the cover), and you know it’s old because it has Joe Mauer with Power in the game. In a realistic game he would not be able to pull the ball.
Either way it has Tiger Stadium, The Polo Grounds, Veteran Stadium, Montreal, Both old Reds stadiums, Giffinth Field in Washington…
And if you compare the graphics from that game and the abilities of that game to the newer ones… EA Sports is still way ahead of them in a lot of ways.
I wish I remembered more, but we are poor, and I had to sell my PS2 a while back so I could fix my car. How sad is that?
Bring back the Baby Blues!
Why do the red hats have a blue bill? It looks terrible. It should just be all red or all blue. There was a guy saying he wanted tri color hats? What, like Mauer’s skull cap?
Personally like the jerseys as is, maybe throw in a powder blue once in awhile as an alternate. But the status quo is cool with me, i like our jerseys
I have no problem with the home whites or the away grey pinstriped uniforms. I think they are a classic design.
I like the current “MINNESOTA” on the chest of the away jersey.
But, I think the current “Twins” on the home jerseys should have been made over long ago. I think the proposed “retro” script logo would be great in place of our current chunky “Twins”. With the departure from the Metrodome the current “M” on the caps has to go. I wouldn’t mind if all the caps only had the “TC” logo on them. I’m not so sure we want to go down the red cap road again… The thought of the red jersey makes me ill.
The sleeveless tops are fine… I probably wouldn’t buy a replica if they made one. The navy blue alternate tops are fine also…
The light blue retro uni?… I think I would leave that in the closet with the red jersey.
Keep the belt, but ditch the “Metrodome” looking “M” and bring back the “Retro Twins logo”
Found this baseball uniform. I’m glad Target sponsors the field, but this would be a little much. Thankfully Otterbein College uses it, so the Twins won’t copy them:
imo,it’s what we think of BA’s top 10 list of prospect but other teams.I think is the real deal but we must keep GO-GO until he is ready.Span can man one outfield spot but we have to have a power-hitting righty swinging option at the other corner outfield(hopefully Delmon).Revere hit almost 400 last year, maybe we can test the market with he and Morales in a package to get Escobar of the Braves
I think Hicks is the real deal
throw backs are good. Would like to see a black jersey with twins olors.
Win twins!
Here is a scary thought that came to me fairly late after that uniform presentation because I was focusing more at the subject matter and not the peripherals and I admit I was caught open mouthed like in an Oxy Clean informertial:
Look at who the Twins’ players were that participated: Justin Morneau and Glen Perkins. Justin is a cornerstone of this team. Glen is a charitable 5th starter with one pitch better suited to the pen or to another organization next year. Yet he was the (half) face of the Twins’ players today. Bad news.
the players chosen might have been picked from a broad group available. Perk lives in Stillwater afterall. I wouldn’t read too much into it.
1. Scrap the “M” logo and all uniforms based on it
2. Home uniforms - the white uniforms released today, also the old ‘61 Offwhite with navy pinstripes - Would Morny look like Jim Kaat in that or what???
3. I guess if we have to have the powder blues I could live with it - I just think they are too prissy to really play powerfully in.
Bring back the baby blue uni’s!
POWER BLUES….. I think they are HOFed though so I don’t know if we could where the original ones….
“If the Twins don’t get JJ Hardy it will be because BS won’t want to pony up to what Milwaukee wants.”
Bill Smith shouldn’t pony up for Hardy, because the Brewers will want Slowey. If he can get away with Perkins and some prospects, he’d be stupid not to, but that’s not realistic.
I don’t get why people think Yunel Escobar is so attainable either. If the Braves are somewhat unwilling to include him in a trade for Peavy… how exactly is he easy to attain for the Twins?
If the Braves want a left fielder for the next several years, they can pony up on Adam Dunn. Trading Escobar makes no sense for them, since Lillibridge can’t hit, and Prado probably isn’t an everyday player.
I want a red jersey and red hat as the uniform. they have started working red into the hats, but a red jersey would be cool too. just no black. no need to sellout. enough teams do that already.
I hated the 70’s and 80’s uniforms (even when I was a kid I hated them)…the pixies looked great on the Pirates. My VFW uniform had a pixie…and I liked the look and the feel. But the Twins pixies don’t fit right or something. Just wear the current stuff already!!!
What I don’t want:
Red hat. Powder blue uniforms. “M” on hat. All cause major cringe factor for me….
Scrap all the current uniforms. Retire the “M” and the current “Twins” script.
Home - 1961 era jerseys w/ current TC cap
Road - Gray jerseys with navy & red piping (no pinstripes), with a script Minnesota across the front (navy outlined in red), and a navy TC cap with red bill
Home Alternate - White w/ navy pinstripes, TC on the left chest
Road/Home Alternate - Navy jersey w/ red & white piping, with the 61-era script Twins across the front (white outlined in red). White numbers on back, outlined in red. These would be similar to the pre-87 Batting Practice jerseys
Who has the worst uni’s in baseball. My vote goes to either the toronto blue jays or the tampa bay rays. Awful, both of them.
You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me!
“Who has the worst uni’s in baseball”
1976 White Sox and 1977 Pirates
1. Keep the home and road uniforms they’ve had since ‘87, pin stripes and all
2. Ditch the pixie vests and ghastly blue alternates.
3. Take last names off the home jerseys, as they were up until about 10 years ago
4. Ditch the “TC” hats and stick with the “M” logo. They’re not the Twin Cities Twins, they’re the Minnesota Twins.
5. If alternate jerseys/uniforms are necessary, make them Saturday or Sunday only.
I really wish baseball would set some guidelines for alternate jerseys/uniforms, as in what I put in #5, but they won’t because it’s all about the money.
And please I hope the Twins don’t change their logo branding in 2010. If you look at the truly great ones like the Yankees, Dodgers, Braves and Red Sox, they never change. Timelessness is a virtue.
The 1976 White Sox jersey’s also included collars and they wore short shorts like on the movie a league of there own
Uniforms: Love Powder Blues. Will draw attention from other teams. Good or Bad, but mostly good!!
Like alternate red hats.
Prospects: Where are Guerra and Hughes???? If our “3B of the future” is not in our top10 now, we need to trade for a 3B. I guess Guerra is still working on mechanics, so we’ll let that slide.
I’d like to see the powder blue ones at least once a week. The sleeveless ones are horrible. Not a good look.
Go back to the 61 duds. They were cool and dignified.
Those 80s things are awful.
Dump the M logo.
If you need a throwback uni, use the 1959 Washington Senators.
Classic is good.
Polyester is sinful.
Gadzooks, you guys have some terrible taste. Black jerseys? Just look at the Mets to realize what a horrible idea that is. Ugh. GREEN jerseys? Why? The Twins had better not change their colors, lest they become a victim of the trendiness factor (remember the wave of teal - the Marlins are still trapped in that “Miami Vice” prison). The red caps? I’m not a big fan, but they’re OK. The pixie vests? Make the look more like the Rangers’ vests, with just the TC and some piping around the sleeves, and you’ve got something. The “M” logo? Yeah, time to send that away for good. The TC is sweet and classic and just a wee bit mysterious, regardless of whether or not they borrowed the Reds’ “C”. I’m hoping for a new uni in 2010, but hopefully not one of the pseudo-modern ones like the Nats and Diamondbacks sport. Let’s keep it simple and fairly traditional, shall we? (And for the person who wants the Twins to hire some local firm to design the unis, who are you kidding? Do you honestly think MLB just lets the teams go out and hire whomever they want? I can guarantee you that any uniform change will come from the marketing arm of MLB, not from some guy in Chaska who the Twins happen to pick. There’s too much money to be made on merchandise for baseball to let the teams make their own decisions.)
Oh, and the retro unis they just unveiled are fantastic. Get the guys in those with some real stirrups - not the fake ones, I’m referring to the old Wayne Terwilliger models - and you’re stylin’.
They suck, just like Thyrlos 98!
“3. I guess if we have to have the powder blues I could live with it - I just think they are too prissy to really play powerfully in.”
That’s the point of the powder blues! It’s like why guys wear pink (see cycling). It’s funky enough to draw attention, but the Twins are (or should be) man enough to handle it ![]()
Stick with what they have except they need to get rid of the “M” cap. I don’t EVER want to see the powder blue uniforms again.
Orange tops and black spandex pants would be awesome. Like the bobsled teams wear. Or maybe like that fat guy at work you see in the hallway from time to time who wears the spandex. You know the guy who gets in the way of your vehicle trying to ride a bike in the middle of the road as if he were a car. A uniform like the fat biker would wear with an orange top and black spandex pants.
ok, we need new news
holy cow, that is a lot of posts on uniforms. I could care less, as long as they play well.
As for “they are young, therefore will get better”, isn’t the argument CLE made last year? Won’t, therefore, CLE and KC be better next year also?
Nathan has 2-3 years left. M&M aren’t getting younger, and catchers tend to break down and wear out. Now is the time to strike, while you have a healthy M&M and great relief pitcher and 3-5 good/very good starters. Go get a 3B or SS, move Young to right (or trade him) and Span to left. Pray that Gomez improves from the worst hitting OFer in the game and that Span and Casilla are legit.
If they wait for Valencia (not even good enough to be a top 10 prospect), Nathan will be 1-2 years older, and Mauer will have more wear and tear, and Liriano or Baker will be too expensive to keep.
btw, no WAY are those 5 the starters in 2012. One or more will be traded, and either Baker or Liriano will be too expensive to keep (or liriano will be injured again).
I hate the current uniforms, they have been wearing them far to long. I like the uniforms they will wear for next year (the ‘82 unies) Kepp those permanently or us a navy blue piping for the pant and piping for the tops that run from button area to shoulders. Then plce a red TC (just like hats) on upper left chest with red numbers on lower right portion of Jersey. Use red “TC” caps (I HATE the current “M” hat) use Gray fore the red with the same design.
i’ll repeat what i said yesterday; if we are talking about uniforms the last week in nov. this is going to be a long winter.
how about some baseball talk?
joe, len3 make something up, please!
But, Gobble, don’t you think Tj Just has some delightful ideas at 11:05?
(just kidding, tj. i like everyone’s ideas)
I personally like the Mets black jerseys, which is why I suggested them. Make the numbers and the lettering on the black jerseys white like the blue alternates have on the back and have blue or red piping and black hats with the red TC and that would be crazy cool.
I like the idea of aqua and pink uniforms. It would bring me back to the good old day’s of Don Johnson
No socks with the low top loafers as well
mike,
I agree with you, IF the Twins can get that 3B or SS of which you speak WITHOUT BECOMING A WEAKER TEAM, they should go for it.
If the Twins can make a deal which will improve the team, they should throw all available resources into the effort.
If such a deal is NOT available however, they shouldn’t make a deal just to appear active.
Last year, the Tigers acquisitions of Miguel Cabrera, Dontrell Willis, Edgar Renteria, Gary Sheffield and Kyle Farnsworth put them so far over the top that they slid all the way to the bottom. And it cost them Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, Dallas Trahern, and Eulogio DelaCruz who were core of their farm system.
They finished last, ruined their present and set back their future.
My point is JUMP ON A GOOD DEAL, but only a GOOD deal.
What’s the deal with Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reporting that the Twins are absolutely shopping Delmon Young? Let’s not pull another David Ortiz move here and give up on the guy, he’s only 22 years old with a ton of talent and seems to hit the ball to the opposite field an awful lot???? Just let the guy get up there and whack it!
Sorry to be behind the times here…
No type A free agents. We need a SS, and this is the best year in the history of the game to get a free agent SS, but you have to give up a prospect you haven’t even drafted yet to get him?
OH NO! Bill Smith needs to put his head in the toilet and Justin Morneau needs to slam the lid and flush about 2 dozen times! 1 for each time that this team has brought in a poor excuse of a hasbeen or a never was instead of having some testicular fortitude and paying for a big gun!
210 comments on uniforms-WOW!!! I haven’t read them all, because I doubt anyone is in favor of my personal favorite; the cardinal red uniforms the Twins wore for one year in 1997. More specifically I think it was three Sunday home games. Chuck Knoblauch hated them, but I loved their look. Have always looked to buy one that was major league quality, but haven’t found it.
When I first heard they were going back to 1982, I thought the baby blues were coming back, thank God they aren’t. The whites look great, way to go Twins.
The Twins (and most other MLB teams)have as many failed 1st round draft choices as they have had successful 1st round draft choices.
Ryan Mills
BJ Garbe
Adam Johnson
Matt Moses
Kyle Waldrop
Jay Rainville
Chris Parmelee and Trevor Plouffe (jury still out)
A type-A FA who is a real slam-dunk difference-maker would be worth the risk.
The kind of FA’s the Twins usually sign?
Never mind!
Smithers (BS) is either going to bring in a washed up, old, has been of a player who is cheap or he will sit on his hands or maybe both. That is my prediction. Morneau should give BS swirley’s BC Benaeke LOL
I miss the day’s of Torii Hunter
Joe G — hasn’t your wife ever told you that you can’t wear Black and Navy together? ![]()
I’m not married yet.
My mom has never told me that one either that I remember. That’s fine, just make the piping red if that’s the case.
Atart fresh at Target Field.
Ditch the ‘M’ caps.
Bring back the original ‘Twins’ script.
While you’re at it, Strib, bring back the ‘M’ and ‘StP’ cartoon Twins: high kicking after a win, sobbing after a loss, under an umbrella after a rainout.
“Start,” of course…
Not having names on the back of the unis looks bush league to me. The Dodgers did it a couple years ago and it was terrible.
Remember, we switched to our current uni’s just before our first championship season. I’ve liked ‘em ever since the word go and I hope we keep them. They’ve been good luck.
If they want to do one different goofy set every year, that’s fine with me. It keeps the pro-shop busy. But stick with the main home and away…a consistently winning look.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please don’t bring back the powder blue ones. They were so bad. I hated them back then and even more now. Once in a while, fine but not too much. Lots and lots of loses and very lean years in those stupid things. Lets face it, how intimidating were those baby blues? Nobody has or will win with those. Just imagine how Boof will look in them??? I rest my case!
Pinstripes look good and lots of good vibes in them over the years. Sleeveless look good. Nice clean uniform. Dark blue shirts look good too. Gotta look like playas’ dude.
I agree that’s alot of talk about uniforms but I agree the M hats have to go. There’s a plumbing shop in south st paul that had the same hats, but stood for Murr’s plumbing. Those ugly gray road pinstripes uniforms must go. Change is good once a century. Can’t wait for the new stadium and hopefully the Pohlads will open up the old checkbook and put a contender on the field.
Bring back the baby blues!
Go back to the uniforms of the ‘69/’70 seasons. We can see softball uniforms anytime.
I DON’T SEE LUKE HUGHES NAME ON THE LIST ANYWHERE. THAT’S A MYSTERY TO SAY THE LEAST.
The throwbacks are getting towards what I’d like to see for 2010. I think the team should have 3 uniforms total: home, road, and home alternate. Too many uniforms is just unclassy (the Yankees have had only 2 uniforms for the past 70 years). Look at the Cubs, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc…all they have is 3 uniforms, and it’s great. Here’s my preference:
Home: 1971-era white jersey and pants, no pinstripes, with blue TC hat.
Road: 1971-era gray jersey and pants, no pinstripes, with blue TC hat.
Home-alternate (really cool): button down powder blue with red and navy sleeve stripes (like 70s/80s jersey, but button down), white home pants, and the red TC hat with the navy bill. It would be like what the Royals started doing this year…a powder blue alternate jersey to wear at home with their white pants. It looks CLASSY and it’s new and fun.
Pinstripes with the “M” caps.
road uniforms use the mid 60 grey pin stripes and powder blues for home, that would be sweet for both home and road. 2009 central div. champs go twins.
Don’t sign any FAs this year, but see if Hardy is available for propects and Bonser/Perkins.
Keep D. Young.
No powder blues, except once in awhile on the road.
Replace with TC the M on the road hat.
Bring back the 1961 uniforms for home and road (gray, no stripes), but replace Twins with Minnesota on the road grays.
Sleeveless ok if no stripes and the TC logo on the left chest and only from July 4th to Labor Day, kinda like a seersucker suit, only for the really hot weather. Have a gray version for the road.
Show the stirrups.
No black uniform. Geez, forget it.
No red hats or jerseys.
