PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. — Twins infielder Brian Buscher was taken to a Fort Myers, Fla., hospital this morning after experiencing soreness in his chest but returned to the team’s complex after checking out OK.

“He’s fine,” said Twins Director of Baseball Communications Mike Herman.

Buscher, 26, was scheduled to start at first base today for the Twins against Tampa Bay, but has been scratched. Brendan Harris moved to first base, with Matt Tolbert inserted at third base.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Buscher had soreness in his chest but couldn’t elaborate.

“He’s getting checked out,” Gardenhire said. “It’s something in his chest, whether it’s muscular or whatever, they took him to the hospital this morning to get it checked out.”

Buscher is batting .380 for the Twins this spring.

OTHER INJURY NEWS

Michael Cuddyer (cyst in finger) is back in the lineup today after getting examined Tuesday in Minnesota. Joe Crede (swelling right hand) will start Thursday against Boston, Gardenhire said.

Justin Morneau (back tightness) and Delmon Young (right shoulder soreness) are both probable to start on Thursday, Gardenhire said.

“Our health is not good right now, as far as players beat up a little bit,” Gardenhire said. “A few things happened at the end, and hopefully we’ll start the season healthy.”

Update: Scott Baker held Class AAA Norfolk to three hits in five shutout innings today. He threw 58 pitches, walking none and striking out four.

Also, Rule 5 draft pick LHP Jose Lugo has returned from the Mariners and will be assigned to Class AA New Britain.

POSTGAME UPDATE

Gardenhire said Morneau’s back was still stiff today, leaving him questionable for Thursday.
