Twins/White Sox: Something old, something new

La Velle is in Chicago, ready to cover Twins vs. White Sox, Round 1, and the storylines are overflowing, as he wrote today. Joe Crede’s homecoming, Game 163 revisited, Jose Morales returning to the scene of his 3-for-3 major league debut.

The rivalry is also in for a real twist tonight. R.A. Dickey’s knuckleball brings an unpredictable element to the proceedings at what figures to be a cold and windy U.S. Cellular Field. Talking to Mike Redmond yesterday, you could tell he had some angst about catching the knuckler.

“As a catcher, you can do everything right, and not even get a glove on it,” he said. “That’s not a great feeling, but that’s the way it is. And [Dickey] would probably say, ‘If a catcher can’t get a glove on it, then that’s good. Because he knows if I can’t get a glove on it, then they definitely aren’t going to be able to hit it.’ “
