New uniforms for the Twins? Suggestions, please

Are you tired of the Twins uniforms? Are you hoping they turn the page from 1987, ushering in a whole new era next season, by opening Target Field in style? Or would you be furious if they tinkered too much?
Either way, the team is currently considering changes for 2010. Doesn’t sound like they’re planning anything too radical, but the team has until May 31 to finalize its plans.
One note: The Twins have dropped one of their blue alternate tops this season. They used to have blue alternates for home and road. The home alternates said “Twins” and the road alternates said “Minnesota.” Now their only blue alternates say “Twins” and team president Dave St. Peter said they can be worn home or road.
Anyway, I started a suggestion box in today’s column. Let’s expand it here:
1) Lose the pinstripes, at least on the road. As a buddy told me, “The combination of the pinstripes at home, and that ratty old font, is just too much.”
2) Change the script on the home jersey, even if it means returning to the soft cursive “Twins” from before 1987. The “Minnesota” in block lettering on the road isn’t quite as bad, but the current home script should be left behind with the Metrodome.
3) Permanently pack away those sleeveless vest alternate home uniforms, once preferred by Livan Hernandez. Or simply burn them.
4) For those who cling to their 1987 and 1991 memories in these current uniforms, remind them about 1997-2000, when the Twins averaged 94 losses.
5) Remove the names from the back of the home uniforms.
6) Wear the TC hats for both home and road. (Red hats should be used only with 1982 throwbacks. Frankly, if they modified those 1982 throwbacks, with dark blue TC hats, you might have something close to what I’d consider the ideal home uniform for 2010.)
7) I’ve heard pleas to bring back the powder blues for the road. I think solid gray is the better bet.
(8) For some more ideas, check out Paul Lukas’ admittedly obsessive Uni Watch blog. The ‘82 throwbacks got a positive review there, and a couple weeks ago, design expert Paul Soto proposed this look for the Twins on the road, at at home.
9) OK folks, the floor is yours. Remember, as Heidi Klum might say about Twins fashion, “One day you’re in, and 22 years later, you’re out.”
