CLEVELAND — Joe Mauer will officially begin his minor-league rehab stint on Friday, playing for Class A Fort Myers at Palm Beach, a Twins spokesman said today.
Mauer, who is on the disabled list with an inflamed right sacroiliac joint, remains on pace to rejoin the Twins on May 1. He is expected to play six games with the Fort Myers Miracle.
Mauer went 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI as the designated hitter in an extended spring training game today and will likely catch for the Miracle on Friday. He has been catching every other day.
