A Beltre/Crede comparison en route to Seattle

I’m heading to Seattle today and will have the lineups from Safeco Field when they’re posted. Meanwhile, for a quick refresher on the Mariners, here’s an interesting overview at the one-third mark of the season, from the Seattle Times’ Larry Stone.

Remember all that clamoring for the Twins to get 3B Adrian Beltre? Stone projects his totals over a full season — .244/.275/.355 12 homers, 75 RBI — and concludes, “Most of these numbers would be career lows, but Beltre is always a slow starter and his offense appears to be on the rise. Whether the Mariners will be the team to benefit from his possible revival is an open question.”

There’s continued speculation that Beltre will be traded, but the Twins are more than happy with 3B Joe Crede, whom they got for a fraction of Beltre’s price (especially via trade). Projecting Crede’s totals over a full season, you get .232/.293/.472, 26 homers, 67 RBI.
