The Twins optioned Jesse Crain to Class AAA Rochester today, in a surprise move, to make room on the roster with Glen Perkins coming off the disabled list.

Crain is 2-3 with an 8.15 ERA in 23 appearances, but he hasn’t pitched in the minors since 2004.

Joe Crede (lower-back stiffness) and Michael Cuddyer (strained finger) are back in the lineup, but Denard Span (inner-ear infection) remains out. Span had another doctor appointment and was not in the clubhouse before batting practice.

Apologies for the late post. We had some technical difficulties.

Update: Manager Ron Gardenhire said if Span has to miss three or four more days, the team likely will place him on the DL, too, and it sounded like the team would promote an outfielder.
