DETROIT — Anything happen here today? The Twins traded for Carl Pavano. Anthony Swarzak gave up six first-inning runs. Manager Ron Gardenhire got ejected.

The Twins almost came back to win before falling 10-8 to the Tigers and falling 5 1/2 games back in the AL Central, heading into their dates with Justin Verlander and Jarrod Washburn.

Then, Gardenhire went off about home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt after the game. And Wendelstedt had an interesting response of his own, even inviting Gardenhire to umpiring school. More on their feud here. More on the Pavano trade here. More on Joe Crede’s shoulder and the rest of the rotation, here.

But here’s something else from my first-edition game story that I found interesting:

The Twins might not be done wheeling and dealing after Friday’s trade for starting pitcher Carl Pavano, Manager Ron Gardenhire said.

“There’s no telling how many more guys we’re negotiating with right now,” Gardenhire said. “I mean there could be a ton. I think, just talking to a couple guys in the office, we’ve talked to a lot of people.”
