From Progressive Field: Twins/Indians
Posted on September 4th, 2009 – 2:53 PMBy Joe Christensen
CLEVELAND — We’ll see tonight if the Twins were able to move past Wednesday afternoon’s ninth-inning meltdown, as they come back from a day off to open a three-game series against the Indians.
Carl Pavano will be making his first start against his former team.
Grady Sizemore is not in the lineup for the Indians, and the team is expected to announce today that his season is over because of a sore left elbow.
Update: Francisco Liriano had a successful throwing session today, and there is hope that he can pitch a simulated game on Tuesday in Toronto. Manager Ron Gardenhire said the plan is still to have Liriano pitch in relief when he returns from the DL.
Joe Crede planned to swing a bat today, and if all goes well for him, he could face Liriano in that simulated game Tuesday.
The Indians did indeed announce that Sizemore will miss the rest of the season to have surgery.
