From the Metrodome: Twins/Yankees Game 3
Posted on October 11th, 2009 – 2:01 PMBy Joe Christensen
Clearly, the Twins need to take these one at a time, but to advance to the ALCS, they would need to win three games with these three probable pitching matchups:
Sun: Carl Pavano vs. Andy Pettitte
Mon: Scott Baker vs. CC Sabathia
Wed @ NY: Nick Blackburn vs. A.J. Burnett
On his weekly radio show, on KSTP AM-1500, Manager Ron Gardenhire said he would likely use Jose Morales as his DH today, with Jason Kubel in right field and Brendan Harris at third base. In other words, Carlos Gomez will be back on the bench.
Gardenhire’s pregame press conference starts momentarily, so I’ll post the lineups and updates shortly.
Update: If the Twins win Game 3, the game time for Game 4 on Monday will be 6:37 p.m. If necessary, Game 5 would be Wednesday at 7:07 p.m.
(*) Gardenhire said Morales has looked more relaxed in batting practice and looked fine in a simulated game Monday against Twins pitcher Jeff Manship. Morales had a late-season slump, but there’s hope he’ll be better today, swinging righthanded.
“I’m looking for [Morales] to have a good ballgame,” Gardenhire said. “He’s had time to reflect a little bit, hopefully relax a little bit. It’s not going to be easy for any of us who are all going to be in the same boat.”
(*) Asked about the potential of having Baker pitch Game 4 and Blackburn pitch Game 5, Gardenhire said, “Our pitching’s set up the best it can possibly be set.”
(*) Gardenhire also said: “This team’s been fun, and I don’t expect anything to change. I expect to come out there and fight tonight. You never know what’s going to happen, but you know what? They’re ready to play.”
(*) Gardenhire on whether he considered putting Mauer at DH because of his sore hip: “No, no consideration whatsoever. I can’t tell you how it’s feeling and how much it hurts. You would have to ask him, and he is going to tell you the same thing he told me on the plane, ‘I have been playing with it a few days here and I will continue to play with it.’
“Will it hinder him?” Gardenhire continued. “Only time will tell. I don’t think he ran the bases as good as he can, but he ran the bases, and he does have to run the bases because he keeps getting hits, but he will be out there, he is a gamer, and everybody is playing with a little bit of something this time of year.”
Update: Joe Crede, who had back surgery last month, returned to the team for tonight’s pregame introductions.

“Over?! Its not over! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!?!”
Man, I would love another crack at Yankee stadium. If any team can do it - its the vampire-piranhas!
I expect a Twins win today.
Play sharp today, Boys Of Summer!
Been awhile since I’ve posted, but its been a crazy ride here for the Twinkies hasn’t it?
DY has looked horrific at the plate in the first 2 games, and not much better in LF either. Gomez at least provides speed and defense. why can’t he start instead (move span to Left)?
Jonathon Papelbon….go take a seat next to Joe Nathan.
Who would have believed this?
Will get to the Twins later!
Damn LA, that was cold-blooded.
the germans bombed pearl harbor??
made my day with the red sux and papelsuck going down.
Not sure about the choice of Morales at DH. He hasn’t been any better than Gomez at the plate lately, and I’d rather have Go-Go’s speed in the outfield.

A nomination for pre-Twins game PoD, Chief.
gobbledygookguy the germans bombed pearl harbor was from Animal House
Okay, Twins, the Rockies and Phillies will have to play at least 1 more after tonight. If they even get to play tonight. Twins might as well keep playing, too. Don’t want 3 different series to go 3-0.
C’mon boys, let’s have fun!
Jonathon Papelbon….go take a seat next to Joe Nathan.
No kidding. Wonder if this will make people shut up about Nathan finally.
Even the elite closers of today, i.e., Papelbon and Nathan, can both have their bad days.
As Joe N. said….I’ve already forgotten about game 2, time to get it on tonight.
Haha…Papelbon’s was even more embarassing. 2 outs, bases loaded.
Nathan’s was bloop blam and then he got through 2-more.
It’s time for DY,JK,MC,JM,and OC, to all step up and turn into postseason monsters!
Why can’t Gomez start? Maybe because he helped cost us the game on Friday on the basepaths with pure stupidity. Sure both he and DY swung at the first pitch with the bases loaded, but at least DY hit the ball hard. Did you see his throw to 3rd after Nathan threw the ball into CF? From shallow CF he couldn’t make and accurate throw to 3rd base. He’s just awful.
I really hope Gomez is in AAA next year
and the great mariano gave up a big run-scoring hit on friday.
why people think these things are easy or automatic for any player on any team is beyond me …
My head says 7-2 NYY tonight in a sweep, but my gut is telling me that the series is going back to NYC after tomorrow night.
Hey - Papelbon blew it today and so Nathan should feel better. There is NO reliever today that is not hittable. Angels are the team to beat and are playing Twins type of ball (formerly Dodgers type of ball).
True story for today… During the Vikings game today, my 12 year old grandson asked his almost 40 year old dad why Favre was wearing pink shoes. My undeniably Son-in-Law explained it this way: “It’s breast awareness month.” Talk about a belly laugh…… ![]()
So Cal Gopher, my heart likes your gut feeling!
Still can’t get past the Germans bombing of Pearl Harbor. I am stationed there now, and I pretty darn sure it was the Japanese. I might have to go back to the history books to verify though. Maybe I was missing something?
Too bad our Twinkies didn’t get that second game in NY, I would be feeling MUCH more comfortable about taking this series!
Nathan needs to go back to a prior season, he looks way too timid as of late. Get back the killer instinct instead of looking so unsure of yourself on the mound. You can see it in his body language.
Rock the dome today boys
I would rather see Buscher at DH today, but why not give Mauer a day at DH and have Redmond catch with his right handed bat in there.

Why the hell would you want to see buscher in there? That guy sucks.
Woohoo! Pregame coverage started early on TRN!
Jesse: It is Twins pre-game stupid question and stupid suggestion time. Take it with a grain of salt. I did.
Play angry Twins. Time to give these Yankees what they deserve.
Besides, Steve H. It would be a little tough to have both Buscher and Mauer at DH. See what I mean? Good one.
Twins had and needed game 2! Fate said otherwise !? We will win game 3 and unfortunately lose game 4! Thank you for the ‘Metrodome memories’…on to Target field ![]()
why would you have buscher bat against a lh pitcher?
Good thing Gomez is on the bench. He isn’t anything better than a pinch runner, 4th outfielder. Should be in AAA next year. The 5 tool thing is a joke. He doesn’t have the hand-eye coordination to hit in the majors.
T: So because Papelbon blows his today, this excuses Nathan’s? Bullsh*t. Plain and simple. Im still pissed about Nathans meltdown and that was nearly 3 nights ago. Nut up or shut up, and clearly Nathan has no nuts vs the Yanks. Remember to bring him his ba ba, and blankey tonight.
MedSchoolMat: Gomez and DY are two of the most frustrating players on this roster to watch. I mean they have so much potential and tease you with snippets of good games, at bats, etc. but in the end, it seems they disappoint more than not. Kind of a pick your poison kinda lineup choice today.
My above post is kinda negative, fully admit that, but I have a bad feeling tonight and am tired of watching us “bust our tails” off to make the playoffs, only to get thoroughly schooled in the first round.
I lived in NYC from 04-08, and do you know all the crap Ive taken from my NY friends about this series? Its maddening and I cant say jack back until we do something, ANYTHING, in the way of winning a postseason game.
As far as Nathan…I still think he has the Killer instinct and make up to be a closer. The problem is his age and his arm. If you look at the baseball stats like (http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1122&position=P)… his velocity came down last year, and as an aging veteran with 70 innings this year, I’m sure it has come down even more at the end of this season. He’s aging and I’m sure he’s tired.
There’s a big difference between a 96 mph fastball and a 92 mph. Just ask Texeira…
I don’t know why I’m writing this, but I feel like Delmon is due for a big night. Sure do hope they own the dome tonight!
Good point E7, but Im still not impressed as that does nothing to explain why Rivera is still so dominant and OLDER than Nathan.
Remember to bring him his ba ba, and blankey tonight.
Only if I’m first able to pry them away from you.
Rivera is still so dominant and OLDER than Nathan.
That’s because he’s Mariano Rivera. If you don’t consider anybody a “good” closer unless they play like Mariano Rivera…that’s a riddiculous standard to set.
While we’re at it, let’s just throw out Derek Lee, Mark Texeria, and Justin Morneau because none of them are as “good” as Albert Pujols.
Rivera’s cutter is one of the best in the history of the game. Its harsh to judge Nathan compared to the best closer ever.
T: took the words right out of my keyboard.
I do believe a shellacking is in store tonight.
Dear HDVGaJ,
Rivera’s out pitch is a cutter. The movement on a cut fastball makes its success less dependent on velocity than a straight fastball. And, oh yeah, individuals age differently.
T and GC:
So I can only make comparisons to players that you approve first? Shall I email over to you my list then?
Here goes nothin’!
Let’s hit A-rod in his fat head.
Instead of emailing that list, why don’t you and Shazel go rent a motel room.
T are you Nathans mom? son? wife?? Stop making excuses for the most pitiful postseason performance in Twins history.
Let’s have a little love for each other, twins fans.
who the heck are you popiveter? another late season bandwagon jumper? pff. get a clue.
Time for a little Metrodome Magic. Hold on tight, Dome gods.
Oh no! Not “Dip” Carey and Ron “Durrrr-ling” !
HDVGAJ:
No. Don’t email me anything, please. Make all the ludicrous jumps in logic that you want.

Anyone know a link for this game?
time for another episode of “Thank You Sir, Can I Have Another,” where the ron gardenhire and the twins beg the yankees to pound them in the arse again and again and again.
GC: Another late season bandwagoner….get bent. This room reserved for folks who have been here all year, not when make the playoffs.
LOL, la_twin….finally a little humor and reality.
Thanks, Howdid! That was hilarious! Now I gotta go back and watch that Deleted Scene video titled, “The One Where Jared Allen Shows He Can Croon”.
Blackberry commericial….
Worst.Ever.
shaun, is that your first dance with deadspin? oh you have missed much…enjoy and your welcome. ![]()
Oh look, the Yankees have ANOTHER starting steroid user on their roster. Only a matter of time until Girardi and the rotting corpse of Ruth test positive too!
I think I saw links from Deadspin before. The Onion has some good biting sports sarcasm also.
Yeah, Jeter and Cheater on the left side of the infield.
Late season bandwagoner? Nope. Been here all year. I’ve commented 5 to 10 times a week on the strib blogs since spring training. Are you “Fire Vavra and Gardy?” If so, you and I have argued before.
Link to game for you out-of-staters without TBS:

Fire Vavra is someone totally different my man. And honestly, your user id does not ring a bell. 5 to 10 a week? No wonder I havent seen you….most make 5 to 10 a night.
Hell yea, sitta down AROID!
All right, Pavano!
Maybe that Security Guard can help the Line Judge or whatever they call those umps watching the left field line.
shaun’s 6:36 hereby nominated for one of USAFChief’s PoD.
LOL…DY swinging at the first pitch for another weak out. Oh lordy.
T are you Nathans mom? son? wife?? Stop making excuses for the most pitiful postseason performance in Twins history.
Classic Internet Whiner Comeback #2: “If you disagree, you are related.”

GCOkemos:
T:
I just sent over some tampons for that leakey vagg of yours. Cheers!
So I can only make comparisons to players that you approve first?
No, but if the only way a closer is “good” in your eyes is to pitch like Mariano Rivera…then there’s only one good closer in baseball, and that’s Mariano Rivera.
I just sent over some tampons for that leakey vagg of yours. Cheers!
Classic Internet Whiner Comeback #3: “I have no comeback, so I will use ad hominem attacks instead.”
Hopefully you’ll have a few to spear to mop up the tears when you find you’ve been banned shortly.
Why are the Yankees swinging the bats? They’d have walked the bases full by now if they just remembered that they don’t get called K3.
What a dumbhead.
Okay Swisher. NOW you can go sit down.
T…don’t feed the trolls who only pick fights.
Geez I’m glad there was one more pitch to the Swish.
He swung at ball four,lol!
The ump does not like that inside pitch at the waist. It looks like a strike to me.
pettitte up to 21 pitches through two innings - see the twins are really working the pitch count again.
DAMN - did you see the movement on that pitch!
I’m so glad Pavano struck him out on the very next pitch. That makes it even more embarassing.
Twins need to put something on the boards to respond back.
Possibly saves a double, probably should not have tried to throw.
?
Nicky trying to show up Jeter.
T
I never said that in order to close games you MUST pitch like Rivera.
classic internet whiner comeback: make crap up when you have no ground to stand on.
Way to quote from and apply the techniques bro.
oops…I just had a runon thought.
Nicky trying to show up Jeter.
In a way he did. Jeter would’ve waved his glove at that feebily (feebaly?)
Wow. A quality start for Pavano. I have lowered my standards for a quality start to three innings.
You know, as annoying as it is watching the same two or three commericials through 4-5 playoff games…this still isn’t as bas as last years Frank Caliendo Show ad bombardment.
Whatever happened to that show anyway?
feeble-y
feebly
come on back end of the lineup! spark ‘em again
T:
So you havent noticed the nonstop GEORGE LOPEZ ads? Hmmm
DRDON
A dissenting opinion does not = a troll.
(don’t get him started, How.)
I guess only when it isnt the same opinion as yours though right?
Okay, if you’re going to introduce something like a Game 8 of the World Series, you could at least make an attempt to tell that story in full with some level of cohesive thought.
Well, I guess it’s off to Wikipedia for me.
How Did…I was referring to your digs at T, not your opinion.
I know, I know shaun….don is brutal on here and thats sorta why I called a spade a spade.
If the drdon qualifications of being a troll are used, he is the bees knees on here. Always fighting with someone….
For anybody who were hoping the TBS guys would finish that story about the 1912 World Series…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1912_World_Series
That liner into the Yankee dugout has so far been the most productive swing of the night for the Twins.
Morales has been B-R-U-T-A-L since his pinch hitting earned him a starting gig. What gives???
Holy crap Morales, what are you playing, cricket?
We should be slapping Petit around. He’s ancient.
Did you guys know that this game is being played on field turf? I mean Chip has only told us that 50 times an inning.
Someone wake the bats up!
How Did…I was referring to your digs at T, not your opinion.
This.
When you make a statement that Nathan or Papelbon aren’t good because they can’t pitch like Rivera…and then the response is “Well then how can ANYBODY be good”, the proper response would be something other than accusing the person of being the player’s mother.
Looks like maybe the Twins are ready for the off-season or something.
3 innings…22 pitches for Steroid Jr….way to work those counts boys.
I give the Lopez Show two months. Three if they put it in the timespace originally occupied by something people would enjoyed watching.
T…don’t feed the trolls who only pick fights.
Oh, the irony.
Well, even if it won’t be called a strike, it’s a good pitch for backing them off.
The TBS commercials are at least a change from the Casino commericials. It’s a good thing FSN BB is over … I’m so tired of that “Marry Me?” in the pancakes commercial. Sorry, it wasn’t that unusual … certainly not enough to warrant a commercial.
USAFChief says:

Oh, the irony.
Hey everybody. Looked who showed up to defend yet another troller.
T im over that conversation. You win happy? You win an internet blog post argument, Im sure your cats will be proud. Meow.
If Pavano gets this zone all night this game could be interesting.
Frustratingly interesting, but interesting nontheless.
Mark Tex looks like a retard.
Thats right, have a seat TEX!
Tex just got called out on a worse pitch than the one he was given before.
Okay, now the same pitch to A-Rod is a ball?
There’s that frustratingly interesting thing.
Where the heck has this come from out of Pavano? Nice. Very nice sir.
Is there a list somewhere that will tell you what will cause you to go into moderation purgatory?
Right, Fuss. He’s got a funny chin. The Yankees have some players that are not handsome.
That is probably the most dramatic change in zones between hitters I have seen in a while.
I can see why Tex was frustrated. He got a pitch for a ball and one that was a bit more outside was the one he got rung up on.
Of coure then A-Rod comes in and gets two nearly identical pitches to the one that K’d Tex and both are balls.
I don’t mind bad zones, just as long as they are consistently bad.
LOL jblowa….thats probably meant for me
Im riling too many feathers with my aggresive takes tonight!
Right, Fuss. He’s got a funny chin. The Yankees have some players that are not handsome.
I think a lot of it is that they appear to have a ban on facial hair…which lets a lot of guys hide weird chins and what not.
I found out you can’t say “d0g g0ne it” or you get moderated.
Shhh T, dont you know that AROID is the face and golden boy of MLB? Of course he gets the calls.
C’mon offense, reward Pavano with some runs (not that the Yanks are giving Pettite anything to work with)
Geez I was just making a comment about being sick of the commercials about “Marry Me?” in the pancakes and it puts in moderation. Ah, well…
Shaun: What about dang-nabit?
I was thinking more of Hihgdecky Matsooey’s moles.
Whoa, since when did George Lopez get a show? I wonder when it starts? I wonder if tbs is very funny?
ARRRGH, so many questions!!
NO! That pitch hasn’t been a strike all night! Pavano’s been throwing that at batters for 4 innings now!
We could use some baserunners, Denard…………..
The hitters are getting fooled BAD right now.
Are they supposed to talk about pitchers “finding the juice”?
almost 30Ks in 2 1/2 games, that must be a record…. makes vavra look really sharp
LOL, “pitch trax” is owning this ump tonight….
One thing I will say, it’s tough to take pitches when the Zone is expanding as it has been the last inning.
these clowns are going to give pettitte a perfect game. what piss poor at-bats
That Pitch Trax is garbage. I think it was Wednesday night when pitches would suddenly MOVE in the pitch trax after it was shown they didn’t gel with the ump.
Hey, that’s my job to rip on vavra. Didnt you get the memo?
“Mary Me” SHOULD put you in purgatory.
I’m kind of surprised that MLB allows TBS to use that “Pitch Trax” thingy so much.
Eventually one of these is going to fall for a hit.
Or accidentally go over the fence.
LMAO shaun. spot on.
The House That Kirby Built
Is it wrong to hope that Carey chokes on a dome dog in between innings? Man is he awful….just like our hitters.
Someday the league will realize that Joe Mauer should be getting the same biased K-zone as Jeter/A-Rod.
Okay here is one to ponder:
Should the Twins bring back O-Cab for next season?
I’ll go first….yes, if its like for a 2mil or less. Thoughts?
You know, they joked about how cheap that seat was…but I bet even the spendiest seat at the Dome comes in less than the cheapest seat at the Palace that Steroids Bought.
Phil Cuzzi sucks at his job.
Right on T. I pity those fools in NYC.
PHIL CUZZI strikes again! How did he NOT get fired after that call last game???
Craig Sager has really good taste in clothing.
I thought Pavano only had one good game for us. He couldn’t beat the Tigers when we needed him, don’t think he’s a big reason we’re here, but that’s OK.
I am pulling for the Twins and the Rockies this year in the postseason.
It would be the lowest possible series ratings wise, but I like the Twins and Rockies.
NICE catch by Young. Gutsy, but good.
Looked foul to me
Nice catch TwinkleToes.
you know cuzzi would have called that a trap
CUDDY! Defense stepping up BIG this inning!
Well that was fun!
Tim Tchida calls that a trap, and his family will be harassed non-stop.
Wow….gotta love hard hit outs by the Bronx Bums.
Good defense this inning.
I h8 all these damn cell phone commericials. Enough! Everyone already has one. We know what the others can do. Now stop that and start showing me more George Lopez commericials ![]()
If Young misses that ball he’s the goat of this board!
Making fun of the on-field sportscaster’s (initials, CS) clothing puts you in moderation, apparently.
There goes the No-Hitter. Next goal, the shutout.
…that’s a start…
Can a Twin please hit a HR this series?
I hate Cuddy chasing those pitches…but my god if he can’t drive them when he makes contact.
Tim Tchida-St. Paul, MN.
Phil Cuzzi- from “Joisey” (honest)
Kubel hitting .091 coming into this AB in postseason…cmon Pubes, your due!
YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME ! ! !
UGH - thats tough.
Cuddy hung out to dry there…Cano SHOULD have caught that.
That was worse than Godzilla’s run
first effen pitch again
Geezuz F’N Crist DY….TAKE A PITCH!!!!!!!!!!!
Kubelfourche gonna get picked off.
delmon, you are really not required to swing on the first effing pitch everytime. really - you can take a pitch or two, try to work the pitch count.
Talk about some hard luck. The only way Cuddy avoids the out there is if he’s running on a ball that was on its way to being caught.
Why would you expect DY to change his approach (or lack thereof) at the plate at this juncture of the season?
Did Delmon learn nothing from the last game? Take a f***ing pitch, you stupid ****!
LA_Twin - that’s blasphemy!
56 pitches for 5 god damn innings - wtf. take a few pitches
Delmon,
Stand in there and take 3 strikes to make everyone happy.
Regards,
This just in: Twins posters hate DY’s batting approach. In other news, water is still wet. ![]()
When a 9-6 fielder’s choice works against you, you can’t help but wonder if it just ain’t meant to be…
Is that a nookie that Swisher has in his mouth?
*knockwood* and all, but Pavano has only thrown about 70 pitches over his 6 innings.
I didn’t want Delmon to try for the sliding catch and I wanted him to take some pitches. I’ve seen too much.
THAT WAS FOUL ! ! !
i think
LOL, well if its JETER, or course its fair!
See now THAT is how you call fair/foul.
“frustrated” is one way of putting it.
SWEET! t’S biker dad made it to the game ![]()
YOU ARE OUT SIR.
(JK T–its all good dude)
My dad’s actually sitting with me watching the game right now.
…Unless you know something I don’t.
I’m sick of this Schwab commercial, too.
Why doest taco bell just save us the time and sell us the “pink taco”…Im sure DrDon and T would then have an excuse to leave the house ![]()
I thought that guy looked like he had taken some bad acid and wondered into the game.
I think that would be an excuse for most of us to leave the house ![]()
Is your dad jealous you arent talking to him and typing to us morons instead?
haha looks like another twins blowout loss, lol. enjoy the offseason guys.
This is the Carl Pavano when he was a Marlin, free of injury with a lot of life in his arm still. You see how he pitches inside? Very effective, our other pitchers need to pick up on this. I feel another year or two and Liriano will follow suit when his arm gets stronger.
TBS has this game slated to go until 9pm…by the look of it we will be done by 815. I guess they could just show non-stop George Lopez promos….oh wait, they already do.
Morales is a joke. He needs to be on the bench w/ GoGo, forever.!
DrDon said early this year that Gomez is a 5 tool player. Gomez ia a head case. Can’t run, can’t bat, dumb as mud. Don;t understand the game…..
We got a real barn burner in the dome tonight.
C’mon Punto
I love how Punto always looks like he his in pain when hitting weak ground ball outs….
Throw Young in there. Two at-bats, two, two swings. Unbelievable…..
I hate close games like this against New York because it typically comes down to one bad call or a change in the zone.
There’s the typical Jeter “attempt”
Oh yeah. Time for some OCab magic.
There ya go…keep the line moving….
Pickoff attempt 1B
Pickoff attempt 1B
Pickoff attempt 1B
Biggest ignorant fan boo: when the opposing pitcher throws to first base.
Second? The wave.
Thoughts?
Concur.
I don’t mind the boo for throws to first. It’s all about getting in their head.
How about booing a visiting player for seemingly “leaving” the team, when in fact he was traded?
love how he held the ball there. Easy, easy steal
omg - someone had the audacity to steal a base on andy pettitte.
take notes DY…that is a PROFESSIONAL AT BAT.
Suck it Spanks because the best AL hitter is here. And no he doesn’t take steroids.
Nice walk. Love getting Mauer up to bat with a walk ![]()
Well MVP, time to prove it.
MV-FREAKIN’-P
atta boy Mauer!!!!
YES!
YEAAAAH BABY!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In your face.
these announcers been sucking too many yankees
Joe Mauer is good.
Love the joint 749pm posts….good work all!
Damon has a noodle.
Jack time!
next years countdown will countdown to mauers last twins game.
Stupid Stupid Mauer. Joe, Why did you swing at the 1st pitch? If you had taken it, You could’a been a star!
Regards,
just shut up Carey…you are garbage….
Well, looked like Cuddy was trying to hit it out with that high strike
Dragon:
If all of DYs first pitch swings resulted in rbis? I wouldnt say a thing.
ouch
Pavano,
Do not give up any runs now!
Sincere,
Twins junkie
Cuddy has been sipping DY’s kool aid. He has literally swung at every pitch he has seen.
Cuddy has sooooo many terrible AB’s
F U Walmart. FFFFFF UUUUUUU!
mauer is the only batter on this team that has earned the right to swing at a first pitch
Stage is nearly set for Nathan to blow it again ![]()
DY & Cuddy are crap. Just think how many extra games this team would have won without them. Probably 70 or 80 wins they cost the Twins this year.
Regards,
Question - if this keeps up does Gardy let Pavano pitch the 9th, or does he bring in you-know-who?
Pink tacos for Breast Awareness. Good idea.
mauer hitting .455 for the series, delmon young hitting .000 for the series
oops. i meant Breast “Cancer” Awareness.
It does surprise me that more Twins players have not learned from Mauer’s “plan at the plate.” When Shannon Stewart came here in a trade (’03, was it?), he was attributed with showing the hitters how to take “professional at-bats.” Why can’t they learn that from a guy who’s been here all along?
Dragon, I thought it may be in the 60 win range, but you are probably right….
Well, I for one am very aware of Breasts
Cuddy OK.
Delmon had one or two good weeks all year.
Hit the bumb Rock.
2244:
Excellent point. You should email/mail that comment to the hitting coach, but his name escapes me….
Boobs (.)(.)
Classic.
LA_Twin,
Mauer 1st inning 4 pitches groundout
Mauer 4th inning 3 pitches Strikeout
Mauer 6th inning 1 pitch Hit,
Yep, Joe keep taking those pitches
Regards,
I just can’t believe it.
I hope they are drug testing during the playoffs.
Im no longer happy. We have made that steroid using pr*ck an oct legend in the span of 1 series….GAH!
Hey! We held the lead for 1/3 of an inning! Things are looking up!
They’re chanting “Steroids”.
Almost as funny as the “Alcoholic” chant for Cabrera on Tuesday.
I told you to hit him Rock and instead he hit you.
admit it - we are really not surprised are we????
A-Rod hasn’t used steroids for years. Joe Mauer is just as much of a cheater as him this year, unless proved otherwise.
I still have to hand it to Pavano. That’s 6 and 1/3 inning of shutout ball against the YANKEES.
*knock wood*
Alcholic chant was a little crass and classless IMO.
Now steroids? All day, everyday baby.
For some reason, I don’t see this game being over by 8:15
Not surprised at all. But still sickened.
Season OVER
And Darling has an orgasm on live TV.
Citation needed “COREY”….or should I say, yankee troll?
minntwins5 says:
October 11th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Season OVER
Ben?
Not it’s funny.
No not Ben.
FCUK!
I H8 this freakin team!!!!!
dragon - i believe mauer hit .365 for the season and rarely swung at the first pitch. I think the 500 plus at-bats during the season are a little better statistical sample as to what approach works better
TBS love this, because they can now go back to talking about how great the Yankees are.
*yawn*
That Whore-hay Posado is a beast. They don’t need to upgrade their catching.
That’s why Pavano has little value to any big league club.
Oh god, now they can talk about Jaba for another half hour.
That guy has his kids’ college fund on this game.
Jobba! Jobba is coming into the game ! ! !
that was pathetic
Pavano has pitched really well, you can’t score 1 run against the Yankees and expect to win.
The Spanks are just toying around with us. They’ll get what’s coming to them next series.
That’s why Pavano has little value to any big league club.
I dunno, if I had a pitcher that could give me 7 innings and only 2 runs against the Yankees…I’d love that.
1,000 bucks DY swings at the FIRST pitch in his upcoming at bat…
“A-Rod hasn’t used steroids for years.” LOL.
Okay, time to get to work, boys.
*pfft*
It’s one run. You’ve scored at least twice that in both games this series.
Flipped channels for a second…
Tennessee Titans: WORST. UNIFORM. EVER.
Kill it with fire!!!
These little 2 out rallies are not enough we need some bats.
So just because somebody hits a home run against the Twins, that means they are currently on steroids?
I am actually thinking that TBS would like to see an extended series out of one of these. So far, they are getting little bang for their bucks. Boston played in LA, so they didn’t get much East Coast viewership on that series. St. Louis didn’t put up a good fight, and that series was over quick too. Now, the Twins aren’t making it look too good for them with the other East Coast team. All they really have left is to hope for the Phillies and Rockies to pull their ad revenue out of the fire.
I am really hoping that the Twins can help TBS get more ad revenue. Chip Carey needs to get paid you know.
It is not so much as we cannot hold a lead, but a blatant lack of power, I mean Yankee pitching is good okay, but seriously no home runs? We also had several at bats letting Petite off, he does not throw a lot of strikes. Man we do miss Morny no doubt….
No. The Broncos today had worse uniforms. They looked like pimps.
” Team with the deepest pockets and highest payroll wins! No wonder the Yanks seem to win so often……..
The Twins need to hang in there as we go to the bottom of the 7th. Very sad that Pavano could not do the simple thing of keeping the ball in the park on back-to-back batters — hurting much more because of one who in the past depended on Steroids. But, Pavano is human, as are all of us. At the same time, the bone-headed play of Gomez two nights ago, the Nathan choke, and poor baserunning of Mauer is taking its toll.
Hopefully the Twins — just like we must do as fans — is put it behind us — and go get ‘em in the 7th, 8th and 9th. Let’s do just that.
You are not officially a Minnesota Twin until you pee your pants against the Yankees.
Welcome to the club, Pavano.
Uhm I think Pavano has plenty left and he should be on the team next year. Two fairly good pitches got hit, what do you want?
So just because somebody hits a home run against the Twins, that means they are currently on steroids?
No, the fact that they’ve been caught using steroids means they’re cheaters.
Anybody who says they wouldn’t have taken Pavano holding the Yanks to 2 runs through 7 is kidding themselves. Great outing by him.
Wow. I’m actually proud of the fans parting to give Young a shot at that.
Just shy.
Span makes that catch. Thanks DY
Fact about AROID. He is a cheater in baseball (roids) and in life (marriage). There are only a few virtuous baseball players out there. Mauer being one of them.
Corey, go eat a d*k please. And go circle jerk on the nypost blog. Let us cry in peace please.
Dear TBS announcers:
They are the Yankees. They have NO excuse for anything but winning.
Might as well keep Pavano.
Our rotation would be this then:
1. Blackburn
2. Baker
3. Pavano
4. Slowey
5. Perkins / Liriano / Duensing?
I’m a Twins fan, I just don’t like being mean to other people, like A-Rod.
Did they just say the “final three at bats”?
The Yankees only need to play 7 innings?
I am sure glad jason kubel has showed up for the playoffs
worthless.
If it is the Yankees and the Dodgers in the WS, I’ll have time to do all the things I’ve missed doing while watching the Twins.
Kubel: back to Triple A
Twins can probably get some cheap vet pitchers next year. Washburn, Pavano, or Freddy Garcia. Any of those three would help bolster our rotation.
Alex Rodriguez is a steroid abusing cheater who deserves zero respect regardless of what he does in the post-season. He dug his own grave by cheating to get ahead and will always be remembered for that. Screw the guy. If a guy like Jeter hits a homerun it means something..even Posada is a respectable player.
Fussface:
But those Broncos were for just this one game. Tenn rocks those awful blues for about half their games.
Kubs needs something here that was weak.
Dear Kubel,
Please use the offseason to learn how to hit lefties.
Signed, everyone
I think the White Sox picked up the option on Garcia.
A-Rod and Petit both are juicers.
1 for 13 with 8 K’s. Thanks for showing up for the playoffs jason
Why didn’t we ever get a replay of the check swing?
I’m a Twins fan, I just don’t like being mean to other people, like A-Rod.
Why not? He’s earned it.
Hopefully the Twins can capitalize on tonight’s Obliga-Torre Managerial move.
Cheater out, drunk driver in.
Young in the house.
“Pettite pitching well tonight, just like Pavano…but because he’s a yankee, here’s the montage of Pettite.”
Wow Kubel has looked horrible, usually he would lay off that pitch. Is he swinging because of Andy’s rep? Come on Jason, you are supposed to be a .300 hitter and you looked completely overmatched. I would also have Bucsher in for Morales.
Ku-bel looks Klu-less
Jim Souhan told us that Kubel was ready for the Yankees this year. Good thing - hate to think what he would have done if he had not been ready, probably would have struck out 8 or more times.
Right off Little Delmon…
A-Rod gets a lot of slack. Everyone turns their backs on Barry Bonds.
Same thing.
That’ll drop ya.
ouch!!!!
DY took one right in his Big Carl
Young is like “folks that’s why I swing at the first pitch. I laid off and now I’m hurt.”
Kubel’s #’s in postseason play vs. the Yankees career:
3 for 30, .100 BA, and 16 K’S.
A-Rod gets a lot of slack. Everyone turns their backs on Barry Bonds.
It depends on who you talk to. Both are hated equally in some circles, but Bonds did nothing to help by constantly running his big mouth about various things.
don’t think outfielders wear a cup.
That’s the last time Delmon takes a pitch.
Young hitting because the alternative is Gomez.
Freddy Garcias option was picked up by the White sox.
Delmon angry!
Can we get another hit to score him!?
Delmon Young should hit fouls balls of his nutsack more often.
He needs to get hit in the junk more often. Nice one DY
Apparently Delmon just literally needed a kick in the pants.
DY = incompetent fielder
It would be nice to hear a positive comment about the Twins period. Everything is Yanks this and that. Any thing with a somewhat positive twist about the Twins is covered with a negative.
Dang, Young looked pissed there. Speed out of nowhere.
he just need a swift kick in the nuts to wake up
Kicks to the crotch for everyone!
“Yankees don’t have any weaknesses”
Jesus christ pull your mouth off of them for just a second PLEASE.
Alright.
Kicks to the crotch for everyone!
You first.
Buscher for Morales
Hit him in the groin
Hit him in the knee
Hit him in the eye
So he can’t see
(we use to say that in school)
LOL, T! Finally something we both agree on.
How many cupshot references is Chip gonna make?
Harris has one of the worst looking swings. There is no power to it.
WHAT A GREAT PLAY BY DEREK JETER!
AROID saw a syringe on the ground and he momentarily lost concentration.
OMG, Jeter was backing up 3B just like he’s supposed to in a play such as that.
Wow! He’s so amazing doing what you’re supposed to.
Harris gave up on that early, otherwise he’s safe.
How many cupshot references is Chip gonna make?
Just as long as he doesn’t combine it with his fisting obsession.
I can appreciate Jeter as much as the next guy, but the SS covering 3rd on that ball is standard fare.
Look where Derek Jeter is — right where any big league shortstop would be!
Rah rah ree
Hit him in the knee
Rah rah ruts
Hit him in the other knee
(we used to say that too)
I bet Favre could kick Jeter’s butt.
And look where Jorge Posada is! Right behind home plate to catch that pitch. AMAZING!
Harris gave up on that early, otherwise he’s safe.
He would’ve ran faster if he had gotten hit in the nuts first.
Just ask Young.
Cuzzi continues to suck at his job.
Good thing I have this recording so I can go back and watch Jeter make an unheard of play.
That was a surprise call by Phil Cuzzi
I was an intern in 2001 with the Twins and know for a fact that the ONLY visiting player to take a stretch limo 10 blocks from their hotel that season…? Yup, Alex Rodriguez.
Remember when Jose Morales was actually good this year?
“Down to their last 7th inning strike”
That “last strike” line doesn’t work too well when it’s not the last one does it TBS?
here is an article on jeter that carey and darling must have read
http://www.sportspickle.com/article:274/derek-jeter-upstages-a-rod-grand-slam-with-5-run-home-run
Gonads
Just thought I;d join in the discussion
Good thing I have this recording so I can go back and watch Jeter make an unheard of play.
I think that’s the reason more people hate Jeter than probably should.
Through no real fault of his own everything he’s done is treated like the greatest thing ever.
A-FRAUD is the devil.
How about Redmond? Where is he?
LOUD NOISES
LA_Twin: Link favorited. That’s classic.
The best I can say is that Morales looks better than Kubel
Hey gardy I think morales looks a little over matched still.
Morales looks like a high schooler tonight.
Holy f”n crist Morales?!?!!?! Bring your pitching wedge tonight I see.
These guys are a little swing happy. No plate awareness tonight.
Man - the bottom 3rd of this lineup is horrid without Moureau and Crede (call me Captain obvious)
So where’s the Twins postseason offense?
Oh yeah-2002 ALCS game 1. Haven’t see it much since.
Come on Ron!!!!!!!!!!! Morales will be a good hitter, but I want to see the veteran in there Buscher, he can make Jiba work, bad non-call Ron and with a man on base jeeeeeeeeeez…..
Wish we had a manager who wasn’t so scared of the Yankees that he could make good late-game decisions, like maybe pinch-hitting for a clueless Morales.
Oh, well. As long as we have guys who enjoy playing grab-ass in the locker room, who needs postseason wins?
Gardy is not a teacher that much is clear.
It’s hard enough watching the Twins lose close, tough ball games to the “poster team’ for all that’s wrong with baseball. But it’s even more difficult when A-Rod the cheater has such a big part in this. I’m not giving up yet…just sayin’.
Big Carl? ![]()
That AB, and Cuddy’s AB with 2 on, represents the difference in the two lineups.
You can get the Twins out in a big situation without throwing strikes.
You can’t do that very often with the Yankees.
Same here, T. “A part of me wants to win”. Good one.
Wish we had a manager who wasn’t so scared of the Yankees that he could make good late-game decisions, like maybe pinch-hitting for a clueless Morales.
Or going to his All-Star closer in a save situation in game 2…
Shuan, and that wouldn’t have been enough if not for Joe May’s last good start of his career (excluding any games against the Royals).
We have gone back to bad swinging habits, plain and simple. Maybe with Morny and Crede, do not know, but not going to bitch too much about our pitching. Well at least Tori is playing on a team with a more than realistic chance to beat them. I love the Twins, but the Angels are my pick for champs, good for Tori..
GREAT PLAY BY CABRERA. Holy cow did everyone see that. That’s how these announcers see Derek Cheater.
Too bad the Twins had to face NY in the first round. If they’d played Boston or LAA, they wouldn’t have had to put on their lil’ girl uniforms and play with a likewise skill level. Seeing that clip of Kirby and Hrbek and the others got me remembering what it was like to cheer for a real team with real major league players. Them days are done.
Is it me…or do the Twins take whatever was the problem all season and make that NOT the problem in the playoffs?
9,1,2 and 3,4,5 due up. We should *theoretically* have a chance.
The heartbreaker for this is still Game 2. Everything worked, they got it to their closer in the 9th…
This shouldn’t be an elimination game.
Jeter Sucks…A-Rod Blows.
Morrales is playing scared out of his mind. Why wouldn’t you pinch hit Casilla for him? At least Casilla could make contact and possibly get a scratch hit and score Young
I should clarify that was the chant should’ve been ![]()
Yep T-they flipped the starters being the issue for icy cold bats.
Yeah Corey I remember that as Joe Mays’ curtain call.
Then I remember the bats going cold in the ALCS until I think the 7th inning of game 5. Then the Angels scored 10 runs in the bottom half after the Twins had their first lead since game 1.
Some things never change!
If indeed our bullpen gets healthy with Neshack and Bosner, then how about Matty G. to the closer role, if in fact there are any takers, seriously is he just as good or is it me?
Morrales is playing scared out of his mind. Why wouldn’t you pinch hit Casilla for him? At least Casilla could make contact and possibly get a scratch hit and score Young
Or, the Twins front office could put actual options on the bench for the manager.
do we have any heroes left out there….we need a couple real bad…lets do it now and clean them out in the ninth and well see you tomorrow nite….
All I ask is that Mauer NOT be the cause of the final out of the season.
Matt G has his moments, but I’ve cursed his name a few times this season.
Earlier post nailed it - most nonsensical events at ball game:
1. Boo a player who was TRADED after helping team with a division title [no, he did not leave for more $$]
2. Boo opposing pitcher for throwing to first with runner on that base.
3. The wave anytime, but especially at a tense moment in a big game.
I think this is our inning. Maybe Nick or Span gets on and Cabby or Cuddy do something unexpected.
It’s nice having all that power on the bench like Redmond, Casilla, Tolbert/Buscher, Gomez etc. Before anyone sings Bill Smith’s praises, consider that the number one priority last winter was to get a right handed power hitter. Don’t gove me the .235 oft-injured Crede who we got for a couple of bats and bags of balls because no one else wanted him, I am talking about a right handed power hitter. Oh wait, we could have brought Danny Valencia up in August to give him a look but of course not, we have the mighty six on the bench to provide power.
The Yankees are using far more pitchers than neccesary in this series.
Oh wait, we could have brought Danny Valencia up in August to give him a look but of course not, we have the mighty six on the bench to provide power.
Valencia? Seriously? The answer to our RH power hitter in a playoff push would be a rookie who’s first ABs would come in September?
PUNTO!
PUNTO!
It’s kind of embarassing that Nick Punto has been our best clutch hitter this series.
Nice Punto!
There’s our power- Nick Punto!
Span bunt? Or do you take two sac flies and tie the game?
Well, Nicky, if you had to pick a time to get hot, you couldn’t have scheduled it better!
Punto has had the best series of any Twin.
BUNTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
It’s kind of embarassing that Nick Punto has been our best clutch hitter this series.
Embarrasing for who? I love it.
DBS -
Exactly, why do people BOO Aj Pierzynski? He was traded, not his choice. People are idiots.
nice start….
Gotta bunt.
WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT FOR?
That is the worst base running blunder I have seen this season, what a FOOL!
STUPIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
stupid stupid stupid
Fack!!!!!!!!
Where is ULGER on that one!?
WTF PUNTO!!?????
F**************************CKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!
Thank you very much Twins base running skills.
How is Jeter making a good play on that? He threw home like he was supposed to.
nick’s gonna score from second on an infield grounder?
At least get in a rundown and get span on 2.
What are we doing?
Punto ignored Ulger at 3rd. Typical Nick Punto. What a jackass
TBS gets another excuse to pleasure Jeter.
Ulger had the stop sign up clearly.
Ulger had the stop sign T…I notice Ulger put his hands out in front of him to signal stop…
Since when do you try to run home from second on an infield chopper?
How many bad decisions can one team make, wow, perhaps this manager and coaches need to go….
Ullger needs to be fired after this series. Completely worthless.
Okay, there is still a runner on 1st. GET HIM IN.
Well at least we can resort to the typical Punto crap now instead of focusing on the ENTIRE LINEUP playing like ass this series.
Not Ulger’s fault — Punto trying to be a hero
wtf, wtf, wtf, and i dont know what to say.,….from hero to goat just like that…im aching all over
thank you sir, can i have another
Dragon, you’re not seriously comparing Young with Mauer, are you?
Why is Punto stopping his momentum now by sliding in the middle of the basepath. Is this just a natural progression from sliding head first in to first base.
Gotta love that classic fundamental Twins baseball.
Has anybody noticed they haven’t played solid fundamentally since Kelly left???
Gotta love the Jeter worship, though. I think he might be luring the Twins into all of their stupid plays
Another example of Twins wetting themselves because they are playing the big bad Spanks.
Ulger had the stop sign T…I notice Ulger put his hands out in front of him to signal stop…
Thanks, I missed the replay while getting the noose out.
that could have been a call Cuzzi could have been confused on…. like game 2…. hope he doesn’t have to visit MSP anytime soon
C’mon, guys…that was aggressive, but not stupid. Looked like it was going up the middle. Nick is a solid player, not an idiot.
LOL, when it rains….
not ullger’s fault. players have been trying to do to much and have gotten away from the fundamentals.
That’s on Ullger…he didn’t throw up the stop sign til Punto was 1/3 of the way to home. Nick doesn’t have eyes in the back of his head….
Oh no T-plenty of blame to go around in this series.
But Punto totally has to be smarter than that and he will be the goat of *this* game if they lose.
mike: You’ve gotta trust your base coach on that one. If he has the sign up you do it.
The Tiggers would have one at least one game. The Twins need to apologize for beating them last Tuesday.
There’s another installment on the Dumb and Dumber film franchise…this time, negotiations are under way to have it star Carlos Gomez and Nick Punto.
Gardenhire absolutely deserves it. He loves Punto and sings his praises 100% of the time so he absolutely deserves to have Punto pull that idiotic play.
O-Cab wants one.
Honestly…we ARE NOT going to win this game/series. So why do I torture myself with it?
Could I possibly be into s&m after all?
airhole,
If you have DVR I would rewind…stop sign was up earlier than that.
Ullger blew it…Punto did what he was supposed to do…he thought it was going through, he can’t sit and watch it…Ullger gave no signal until it was too late. Crappy job of 3rd base coaching!!!
If Gardenhire is back next year and I assume he will be, Punto will once again be a starter.
Frick and Frack.
I know hindsight is 20/20, but I don’t understand why Gardy wasn’t bunting there. Why don’t you play for one and a tie when at home? Dumb.
Watch the replay…Ullger is like a fan watching giving Punto no help at all.
May have been aggressive running by Punto but still STUPID and inexcusable
Ullger only put the stop sign up after Punto was rounding 3rd. He shouldn’t have positioned himself so far down the line that Punto wouldn’t see him.
The #1 priority of this offseason is finding a way to win ONE Yankee game.
Maurer has to hit a home run or the game is over.
Jeter did NOTHING on that play except what he was supposed to and that was throw home.
We needed Cuzzi to make another blown call as bad as the last one.
Why bunt Span if runner is already in scoring position. Why give up an out when your team wastes most at bats anyway?
THIS JUST IN:
TWINS shoot themselves in the foot after tripping over their shoelaces.
Punto had to have believed that the bounder was into center field. Only Jeter would make that play. Jeter is the best baseball player there ever way — maybe the best there ever could be.
Exactly Anthony…Ullger is out of the box on the home base side…he should have had his hands up BEFORE Punto got to third. That is the 3rd base coaches job.
Why give up an out when your team wastes most at bats anyway?
Because you have a guy at third and a sac fly ties it…something that O-Cab (or Mauer depending on a walk or not) could do easily.
what does gardy do when his #1 boy screws up that bad, how does he defend that..oh little nicky, how could you, after getting the biggest hit of his life….
I’m angry with the Twins, not so much for losing, but the way they are doing it. Very unprofessional.
Bunt = man at third.
Flyball = sac fly.
2-2
T Says, I know what you’re saying, but again, from the home plate camera it looked like it was going through to center, so I’m sure from 3rd base it looked even more so. Just a gamble that I understand, but didn’t pay off. I guess I just hate seeing people call the Twins’ hardest workers called stupid, when that’s a bit of an overreaction.
How Did…that’s not s and m…in s and m, there’s a happy ending.
I need a drink…who’s buying?!
Any DECENT manager bunts Span and gets Punto over to 3rd. That way Cabrera’s fly ball just tied the game with the crappy arms in the Yankee outfield.
Blame Punto, blame Kubel, blame Morrales, blame Ulger, blame Nathan, but the real culprit is Mr. Teflon, Ron Gardenhire.
We needed Cuzzi to make another blown call as bad as the last one.
Should probably add “in the Twins favor” to that one.
Just in case he needs very specific instructions.
Who is that third base coach who told that guy to run for home on a center field pop fly????
TWINS NEED A NEW COACHING STAFF! FIRE GARDENHIRE AND HIS STAFF! THEY BELONG IN THE MINOR LEAGUES!!
MVP moment-this is the series.
I’ll bank on Joe…you da man Joe
ulger should have been standing damn near on top of 3rd base to stop nick for sure….not half way down the line….damn….
I was happy as sh!t that Gardy didn’t bunt Span.
But you simply CANNOT make that big of a baserunning blunder.
I haven’t seen a replay that clearly shows who is at fault. But if it’s Ulger, he should be fired.
Immediately.
I’m calling a 2 run jack.
Blame Punto, blame Kubel, blame Morrales, blame Ulger, blame Nathan, but the real culprit is Mr. Teflon, Ron Gardenhire.
If you’re blaming Game 2 on Gardy you weren’t watching Game 2.
same crap…..another day
were going out with a whimper not a bang
Game, set, match.
See you next year at Target.
What in god’s name was Mauer doing on that pitch?
Wow. Samsonite. I was way off.
Hmmm. This situation saddens me.
Gardenhire doing a great job of keeping the guys loose.
Close the Metrodome, boys.
Man, the Twins have found more ways to blow games in the postseason than the Vikings of previous years.
Here it is…game/season on the line with THIS at bat….
where do you never make the first or third out of an inning? third base, punto should not have done an effing thing because he thought it was going through - he needed to to be sure where the ball was going.
Kind of would have been nice to have Mauer up to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out. Ooops.
The twins are like little leaguer’s. You almost expect a bunch of dads to come out and tell them which base to run to.
At least the Vikes are 5-0.
I’m so sick and tired of Nick Punto’s stupid head first slides into first base and lately his cute little feet first slide when he rounds the bases. Stay on your God Damn Feet! From potential hero to complete goat!
If Span bunts, Cabrera pop to center does not score Punto. Instead posts would be wondering why Punto tried to score from 3rd on short fly. Odds of scoring from 2nd with nobody out are way better than odds of scoring from 3rd with one out. Twins only have a few hitters, absolutely no reason to have one of them give up an out to advance a runner to third.
It’s been 165 games this season. Can we go three more outs before declaring the season over again?
“That way Cabrera’s fly ball just tied the game with the crappy arms in the Yankee outfield.”
Actually, Cabrera has a cannon.
They should lease the Metrodome for rainy weather next year. How would you like this game to be outside? Brilliant planning. I thought they built the Metrodump to get out of the cold weather??? Oh well, maybe that will be the new Home Field advantage.
I found a coach dumber than Gardenhire. Jeff Fischer kicking field goals against the Colts. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WIN BY KICKING FIELD GOALS!!!!!
Yeah, the Vikings are awesome this season. Can’t wait to see how they do against Baltimore and Pittsburgh the next 2 weeks.
At least when its not a save situation we don’t have the agony of Nathan.
Not watching Game 2? Not Gardy’s fault? One of Gardy’s biggest fault as a manager is when he gets the lead in a game he goes to sleep. We should have been running on the Yankee pitcher, catcher and outfield arms. Bunting (especially in Game 1 against tub of lard CC), hitting and running. Playing aggressive small ball because we have no power against the Yanks. Instead Gardy sat on his thumb and Nathan did the rest. Gardy is teflon, he never gets the blame he deserves
Do they all get ice cream after the game?
dbs- In baseball, you cannot assume an inning plays out the same way when the circumstances change. Every event that occurs has an effect on successive events. There is no debating this.
I think that is what makes this series loss so hard to watch/take….
The Yankees have basically just waited us out, and waited for US to make the game changing f-ups that would lead to their victory.
Poorly played. Poorly coached. Another in a series of postseason embarrassments under the Gardenhire regime. But Im sure he’ll and his entire staff of flunkies, will be back for more of the same next year.
Just not good enough.
Eh, even if we had first and third, they would have walked Cabrera and Mauer and Rivera would have K’d Cuddyer with three pitches in the dirt and then K’d Kubel and DY would have hit the first pitch back to the mound. It’s 2-1 either way.
Slammamma,
you’re a weed!
Ulger should have been right on the bag with arms waving and screaming at Punto. And Punto, if you watch the replay, he’s diving back to third but already has his head turning back towards home as he’s still sliding. WTF?
I found a coach dumber than Gardenhire.
Leyland? This is probably the Tigers getting swept tonight if he doesn’t put David Kelly (or whatever the heck that guy’s name is) in LF a few weeks ago.
what happens next year if we make the playoffs…run the bases on snowmobiles? postpone like in Colorado? we should have a retractable roof.
SLAM-MAN: they’re playing at Coors tonight. It’s part of the game. Deal with it.
shaun…the Twins are going out with a whimper AND in the fetal position. Countdown to sucky baseball outside? Zero games.
Slam man,
The Browns won today by kicking field goals!
Do the TBS announcers collect a share of this play-off series with the Yankee’s?
Yeah, Shaun, but last time I checked Peyton Manning is a better quarterback than Trent Edwards.
Any guesses on who will make the last out in Metrodome history?
Appls and oranges. If Cabrera is up with Punto on 3rd, O-Cab shorten up and hits it to the right side. He bats differently than with a guy on first, trying to hit a long gapper.
They just showed the replay again and moved the insignia that was in the way…my bad…Ulger actually had his hands out trying to stop Punto. That one is all you Nick. Pathetic.
Edit: Rivera would have retired Cabrera, then you walk Mauer and get the next two. But you get what I mean.
after friday, i promised myself i would not get sucked back into believing. and then, i did it again, only to have the same result from the same stupid mistakes
The Browns won today by kicking field goals!
How does a team win a game with only two completions and a pick by their QB?
Do the TBS announcers collect a share of this play-off series with the Yankee’s?
They get their payment through the back door. So to speak.
Really sad I missed that 6-3 Browns-Bills game today.
TBS announcers are awful but they did not help NY win. Twins did it all by themselves
There’s the replay I needed.
Ullger had the stopsign up in plenty of time.
Unbelievably stupid play by Punto. Unfrickingbelievably stupid.
Any guesses on who will make the last out in Metrodome history?
I’m hoping it’s whoever hits 3rd for the Yanks this inning.
it wouldnt have taken much and the twins could actually have been playing for the sweep tonite of the yanks…..too many shouldas, coulda , but thats just how close this has been and the twins have wasted so many chances and made too many bonehead plays like the last one of nicks….not twins baseball at all, thats what is so damn disgusting…..need a ninth inning miracle and i have to admit i dont know that we have it left….hate to be so pessimistic, but…….
Next inning is Cuddy, Kubel, and Young. The three September heroes.
Kubel will tie this game in the 9th.
Then Crain will blow it in the 10th.
fussface…you’re a dweeb!
Odds on Twins ever beating Yanks again, any time, any place, any month, any year: 2 to 1.
If this is all “The Mighty Yankees” have, they’ll be home watching the WS after LAA gets done with them.
Remember the softball coach from a tiny d-3 school here in mn who got an HR disqualified because she pointed out the baserunner touched her teammates before scoring?
I have a feeling even if we hit a home run, we’d still find a way to f it up…
Takes one to know one.
I can see what’s coming…
Don’t blame U you dummies. No runner should be running on an INfield hit….
Punyo and GoGo are the dumbest base runners EVER in MLB…..
Punto screwed up, not the coach,,LL running.
…says That makes sense to you…baseball in the snow. You are getting your football mixed up with baseball. Different sports. Wikepedia it.
Who’s going to make the last out in the Dome? Rivera.
If this is all “The Mighty Yankees” have, they’ll be home watching the WS after LAA gets done with them.
I was thinking the same thing. Weren’t the Yankees supposed to steamroll right over the Twins?
Sure it may end up being a sweep, but it still took a bit more effort than showing up for the Yankees to win this.
So why are the Yankees about to sweep our Twins? Well, assume for a minute that the two teams merged. How many Twins would make the starting lineup? Mauer, certainly. Morneau might be the DH. Span probably would play in the outfield. Do you see anyone else? No pitchers would ever start — maybe wouldn’t even pitch. We just have to admit that the Yankees are a heckuva team. The Twins have given us fun for the last month. Let’s respect their effort and hope we can fill the couple of weak spots in the lineup and have a better year next year.
We won’t have to worry about October baseball next year outdoors if Gardenhire and Punto and the gang are back. The Sox will make some major acquisitions and their pitching staff looks tough as nails with Peavey and Garcia joining Danks and Floyd, etc. The Tigers should be better with Porcello getting experience and they will get some good players over the winter. Maybe Parvano? KC should be better as should the Indians. I see the Twins 3rd next year with Gardy and Smith continuing to believe in Liriano, Perkins, Crain, etc. and Gomez taking a spot on the roster and maybe even Redmond. Makes you sick.
Should really bring in Nathan to hold them right here.
Ummm, if the third out for the Yanks in the 9th is the last out in today’s game, they’ll play again tomorrow.
Nice of the TBS announcers to never mention the fact that the Twins are missing 45 home runs from their lineup with no Morneau and no Crede. They haven’t mentioned Crede’s name once in this series.
I think he meant against Peyton Manning, capital shaun.
FF I know you are but what are you…
Late!
Write again when you graduate. IF you do. Keep up on your studies.
Punto made the right call, he should have stopped at 3rd though. Another small ball, dive into 1B, hustling his tail off out by LNP.
This has been embarrassing.
Baseball fans across USA used to admire “Twins Baseball” — playing the game right, etc, etc. AFter this series, “Twins Baseball” has a new meaning — stupid, stupid baserunning. Nicely done boys.
The Yankees always get embarassed after beating the Twins easily. ‘03: Lost to the MARLINS in the World Series, ‘04: Biggest choke job ever in the ALCS, and this year, they’ll lose to the Angels.
yay!! Rauch!! That is a good sign
Who are the morons saying it is Ullger’s fault on Punto’s baserunning error? Unbelievable.
The Twins are finally being exposed for the unfundamental team they are.
Just drill A-Roid in the face so I can watch him bleed all over the Dome!
I’m trying to come up with what Punto could possibly have been thinking on that play:
A)”I have such a good jump that if one of the game’s all-time greatest players ever makes a stupid throw to first trying to get a runner he has no chance on, I can score all the way from second on an infield hit.”
B)”If that chopper squeaks through the infield, I’m really gonna have to scoot to make it home on that one.”
There is just no rational explanation for that blunder. I am completely stupified at this point.
Twins were 22-6 without Morneau in the lineup.
The bats like him
C’mon Rauch. Let’s get him.
quit it walter. i’m not falling for that.
FIRE GARDENHIRE!!!!!
until they prove otherwise, gardy and the twins are nothing more than the yankee’s bitches.
We won’t have to worry about October baseball next year outdoors if Gardenhire and Punto and the gang are back.
That’s gotta be a record. Declaring the next season over before the current one is even done.
mj1 A sweep of the Yankee? If’s and should haves did not make a difference. The Yanks are just a better team. Twinns were real lucky to get past Detroit.
I agree, Bob. White Sox should be team to beat next year, but this is the Central, and everyone will contend, as usual.
something to make all the men of twins blogosphere feel a little better….(nsfw)
You let Spann hit his hitting .313 . Twins needed to try and get a rally going before Rivera got in there..
Rather have Spann hitting against Hughes trying to drive in a run then O.Cab against Rivera. I like the Hughes/Span matchup.
Boy. Even A-Rod thought he was out.
See I told you guys Ulger had the stop sign up
Yeah T the Browns-Bills game had to be beyond horrible to watch.
If the Twins do bow out here, I wanna see Torii Hunter get a ring.
Well, it’s good to know that now only 3 out of 4 of our major pro sports teams are complete embarassments this year. And after yesterday, we can take comfort in knowing that the Gophers are only the 2nd worst team in the Big Ten at worst!
Turn out the lights, the party is OVER. You can out the lights.
Maybe the Twinw can go practice in the SNOW @ Target Field tomorrow. They will miss the Dome..
SLAM-MAN: ESAD.
You hurt my feelings.
Gardy cant use nathan because he actually thinks they have a shot
LA, I’m surprised the Yankees didn’t tell the Twins to wear shorter skirts tonight.
This is an organization that would not make an offer to Torii Hunter (3 run HR in Game 1 against the Red Sox), but would offer a multiyear contract to Nick Punto. Tonight we all saw the result. Gardenhire and his boys (pitching Nathan in the 9th inning of Game 2 against a lineup that was batting over .500 against him), batting Kubel against a nasty lefthander (Kubel 0 for 3 with 3 Ks–somebody tell me Gomez would have done worse than that), and his favorite, Nick Punto, running us out of an inning that could have decided the game and maybe the series. George “Sparky” Anderson was once quoted: “Managers don’t win games. Managers lose games.”
Well, it’s good to know that now only 3 out of 4 of our major pro sports teams are complete embarassments this year.
Yeah. It’s so embarrasing to be one of only 8 teams still playing baseball right now.
Well technically one of 6 since the Cards and R.Sox are both eliminated.
I saw Matsui’s first game as a Giant.
Rob,
Just like the Indians were suppose to run away with the division this year according to all the experts?
okay there when the hope…. grrrrr (still have a glimmer, can’t let the season end this soon)
Gardy cant use nathan because he actually thinks they have a shot
After what happened in Game 2, does ANYBODY have any faith in Nathan over anybody else in the pen (well, not named LIriano)
Yeah. It’s so embarrasing to be one of only 8 teams still playing baseball right now.
Yeah. So proud of the Twins right now.
Punto was the hero and the putz all in the same inning. Well…guess we have to look forward to next season. Apparently the “Homerdome” only works for the other team.
403- Forbidden.
that was mean, How Did.
Sorry Nick, you ain’t never gonna recover from that one. You just salvaged your reputation in Minnesota 1 second and threw it all away forever the next.
Ullger had the stop sign up before Punto rounded the bases near as I can tell from the replays they showed. Nick was running with his head down and even looked back toward center field to try and pick up a ball he wrongly assumed would get through. He was the most important baserunner of 2009 and he failed miserably.
You can see Ullger’s reaction after Punto doesn’t stop, he throws his hands down in disbelief, as did the entire state of Minnesota.
Just like the Indians were suppose to run away with the division this year according to all the experts?
Or the Royals in 2008? (Or was that 2007?)
Okay, I’m on the internet now. Consider me the Twins’ good luck charm. Now that I’m here, they can pull this one off.
Carlos Gomez and Nick Punto should try and cross against a red light and get run over. Bring smiles to Minnesota.
Yeah. So proud of the Twins right now.
You’re right. I’d much rather their season have ended last week instead. *eyeroll*
The self-pity around here is sickening.
Loves the “Steroids ruin lives” commercial when Pettite is in line to get the win and A-Rod has a game tying homer. Steroids ruins the non-cheaters lives. Go Twins!
To them, their season was complete when they won 163. This is just bonus time.
I’ll admit that I don’t get this pitching move, either. I don’t think Gardenhire sees the same games we do.
But the irony is so lovely, that Punto should make the final big eff-up. After having that fool Gardenhire shove him down our throats all season as the best and only possible infield option, team captain, A#1 tail battler on the roster.
Carlos Gomez and Nick Punto should try and cross against a red light and get run over. Bring smiles to Minnesota
And now people are wishing death upon the players.
Well, g’night everybody. Thank god the team lost so we can all be happily miserable.
Cry babies. Thank god the Twins didn’t give up a month ago like some of you would have wanted. Then you wouldn’t have gotten another month of depressing bitching out of them.
It’s really pathetic sometimes.
I’d much rather their season have ended last week instead.
I sure don’t see any difference, T.
Only one man in scoring position for the Yankees tonight? No, EVERY batter is in scoring position for the Yankees.
Is it at least a positive that Rivera is sitting so long?
Sorry shaun, it looked likes this:

get it?
Gardenhire and his inept staff will and should undoubtedly be replaced at the winter meetings. Just way too many mistakes and way too many failures. This is nothing more than a Triple A ballclub thanks to both Gardenhire and GM Bill Smith. The days of the Tom Kelly era are obviously long, long gone.
Walter Johnson says:

I saw Matsui’s first game as a Giant.
Did you live in Tokyo when Matsui played there?
Gardy is getting a workout and dropping some F Bombs, who is coming into the mess now?
I really hope they hit a bomb off Nathan
Ullger was where he should have been giving the stop sign. Had Nicky looked up he would have clearly seen him. If the Twins lose this series they can’t blame it on the big, bad Yankees and their payroll. They’ve shot themselves in the feet so much they’re all walking with a limp.
3 straight walks in the 9th. FIRE GRADENHIRE!!!!
Mayday a walk, Raunchy a walk, My Hairies a walk, Nathan a……………..I can’t say it.
“That’s gotta be a record. Declaring the next season over before the current one is even done.”
Given how generous the F.O. has been with the payroll now that they’ve blackmailed their way into a shiny new stadium, the team will be worse next year than they have been this year. From now on, it’ll be a slow spiral to the bottom of the league for talent and paychecks while Carl’s thumbsuckers become multi-billionaires.
Bride of Chucky: I don’t htink that Punto screwing up is ironic. He’s exactly the person that most fans would expect to be the goat.
Irony requires opposites. “Punto” and “effing up” are synonyms.
I smell bases clearing double coming up after the commercial break. Wheels usually fall off when faced with the realization the elimination moment in playoffs is here. Hope for a miracle.
Over/under on Gardy not criticizing Punto after the game, under the guise that “he’s a ballplayer?”
I thought Gardy was going to take the coffee machine behind the dugout and throw it through the wall after Punto Eff’ed up.
Twins need to clean house of their “fundamental” players. That means Punto, Casilla, Gomez, and DY. Wow, that’s 1/4 of the team!
Everyday Nathan!
8th straight playoff lose. 8th straight playoff loss at the Metrodome (haven’t won at the Dome since Game 1 of 2002 ALCS). Pathetic.
yeah cmon peeps, take the gun out of your mouths and grow up.
(i guess 2 things we agree on t)
The walks are on the pitchers, not the manager, you idiot.
i really dont like the looks of this…lol……not funny but hard not to laugh….looks to me like these guys are just flat out scared of the yanks…throw the damn ball and make them hit it - we might even catch it….man dont just give the game to these guys now…
T,
One good thing about the season ending is no longer having to read your remarks on this forum.
Okay, I’m still praying for a DP here. You gotta get one sometime, Joe.
nicky is the same guy that got picked off on the old 3b to 1b trick, what did you expect.
this isn’t new it’s the way they played most of the year, except late when they were playing the little sisters of the poor aka central div.
However, I am not at all ready to give up yet! How many times have I been completely convinced that the Twins were out of it this season? At least 10. I’m not going to be fooled again this time!
Here’s my call: Jason Kubel 2 run walk off home run in the bottom of this inning. Mark it. You read it from me first.
I consider this season a success, they looked like a 3rd place team 75% of the year, and for them to win the division is outstanding.
I have no problem with them losing, but they way that they are losing these games is nuts. This is a team based on fundamentals and they look like a bunch of idiots.
Hey T, what’s it like to have odorless sh!t?
dbs,
Yeah. I remember when his team was in the National HS Baseball tournament. He hit like 63 HRs his senior year (they play year-round). The opposing team in one round of the tourney intentionally walked him four straight times. Their fans almost rioted and the coach was widely criticized.
Matsui graduated in April and went straight to the Giants. They call him “Godzilla” because had terrible acne as an 18-year old.
Gardy cannot run the bases for Gomez or Punto, and he cannot send up a good pinch hitter with the players BSmith provided him this year. Don’t blame Gardy.
No way Gardy criticizes Punto. He’ll blame it on Harris.
Gardy cannot run the bases for Gomez or Punto, and he cannot send up a good pinch hitter with the players BSmith provided him this year. Don’t blame Gardy.
There’s game…
Put another log on the fire!!
I did get to see one happy game this weekend. At least the Hawkeyes held off Michigan.
Damn you, Nathan.
Do they have a LVP award for the ALDS? They should.
LMAO…all star closer? my left nut!!
Will the Twins fans boo nathan?
Gone is the last ounce of hope.
Surprise surprise, 9th inning, Yanks need insurance, suddenly every close pitch is a ball.
Great move, Gardy. Another stellar decision.
Was another outcome even expected?
Is Nathan hurt or what? He can hardly get a hitter out. First pitch….first run scored in the 9th.
Walter — beautiful!!
One pitch, one run, Way to go 12 million dollar man. After Game 2 and that last pitch, he should give 6 back.
Nathans fastball looks like a Tiger Woods drive, straight….
ill say it again, but i dont want to see nathan in a twins uniform next year,,, i was all for trading him earlier this year because i thought he could bring some valuble players to the twins- and i wanted delaney to be the new closer, — now im not sure nathan could bring us anything with that ungodly contract of his…
FIRE GARDENHIRE….He has not won a playoff game since I had hair.
Ok. Kubel AND Young homer to tie it in the 9th.
Then Crain blows it in the 10th.
Actually Nathan, here, have my left testicle….clearly you have misplaced yours in this series…
I know that I am upset and thinking irrationally, but at this point I’m willing to trade Nathan, Liriano and Bonser to get A.J. back!
Span catches that one.
Now we look like a grade school team.
Who sucks worse?
Ron Darling or Jason Kubel?
Answer - our team embarrassing us Nationally once again.
Baseball Fundamentals all year long - until we need it.
Good job guys.
Wow…yep I will say it’s over now.
What did i say, Wheels are coming off. It will be 6 runs in before the inning is over

LA, I’m surprised the Yankees didn’t tell the Twins to wear shorter skirts tonight.
No, I think the yanks are just fine with the length of the twin’s skirts.
Nathan is skkred of the Yankees!
hey, bride! i think guys like him keep the blog alive the whole offseason. drop in and check it out, it’s fun.
Will Ron Gardenhire ever win another playoff game?
That’s it for me, folks. See you all next spring. All I can say is … thank goodness we play in the AL Central!
Looking grim.
What is wrong with me? Why can’t I turn this game off?
It was over about 3 hours ago ![]()
Here’s to you Tori, eat those Yanks for lunch!
As you all know, I am not one to give up, I really believe the Twins will still pull this out, win tomorrow, and take it back to NY
Cuddyer, Kubel, and Young tie it in the 9th?
Can’t put Gomez in since he would have come up in the 9th inning.
LVP = Kuel
Jason Kubel for MVP!
our twins = postseason chumps. man it hurts.
should have brought anybody in but nathan……gardy is just not thinking right..what a way to close the metrodome for baseball….ugly as hell
I see Gardy’s strategy. Give up more runs so Rivera does not come back in. I see now.
tpawlenty, let’s just say the odds are about the same as me voting you for president in 2012 (0%)
Joe Nathan could now blow up his post-season ERA to astronomical heights (8.69 going into tonight’s game). Just caught a glimpse of the worst outfielder in MLB, Jason Kubel, muff a routine flyout. 4-1 Yankees.
And I am so sick of hearing people blame Cuzzi, we have played like sh(t this series, 17 lob, relief corps looking like the Ft Myers Miracle, baserunning mistakes nightly…. the umps didnt do squat.
What a bunch of cry babies you are for calling this game over!
New Stadium new manager. Booby Valentine!
Bill Sm itth needs to get off his fat rear this winter and get players worthy of the new stadium we bought his paymasters the cheap Pohlads. We need a Beltre type at third base, a new solid starter, and a solid reliever minimum. Take the payrool up tl 100MM if you want any chance of keeping Mauer
Twins better re-sign Mauer now. If they don’t they Yankees will.
Three things we can take to the bank. Next year,
1. Gardy will be back;
2. Punto will be back, and start;
3. Twins will compete in the AL Central and have no shot in the play-offs if they make it.
Cuddyer, Kubel, and Young tie it in the 9th?
Okay, I’ll take that and Brian Buscher wins it on a Pinch Hit homerun.
This game is just getting started for the Yankees.
Ultimate potential Twins mgr? KEEEEEENT HRBEK!
assuming the twins manage to ever end the top o the ninth, after 2 k’s by kubel and cuddyer, delmon young will ground out to Derek Jeter on, get this, the first pitch, for the final metrodome out.
Yeah Kubel will win it for us WJ lol
More baseball experise from TBS:
Ask EJ on TBS website
Q - If you were a major league manager, who would be your closer?
A - Joe Nathan
You cannot make it up
This is an absolute joke. Pohlard’s gotta clean house after this embarrassment. Cannot continue with the same degree of failure. And please don’t let Gardenhire hide behind the Disabled List either. No excuses.
Maybe we can at least get a new manager and coaching staff out this. This has to fall on the manager who has shown time and time again that he does not know how to win a big game.
Last look of Mauer in a Twins uniform in the Dome right now. Last look of Mauer in a Twins uniform ever again? Next season…that’s it. After that, he’s heading elsewhere, and who could blame him.
Too Nice you’re too nice. You left the “B” out on purpose!
Listen we are just not that good. Sometimes you can catch lightning in a bottle and make some noise in the post season, but not this time.
Beltre won’t come to the Twins unless he changes his no trade clause. C’mon this has been talked about for almost a year!
WJ-what have the Twins shown in the game to indicate they will come back?
Minnesota Twins: Promoting mediocrity since 2001.
at least nathan didn’t give up a grand slam.
One hit at a time, boys.
Now, I’m not trying to be sarcastic here, but why do fans think a new stadium will strengthen a program?
well at least it was sweet to see the mighty red sox go down in 3 — and i hope the angels just smoke the yanks- that will make my season complete as it can be at this point…..looking forward to february spring training and some new ballplayers……….
Not a religious man, but gonna pray for the hell of it.
tpawlenty,
I would LOVE to have Bobby Valentine!
It could be worse. The Twins could have spent $122 million like Boston and still been 0-3. Or $88 million like the Cards.
At least we know that the Twins have the wherewithal to add about $25-$30 million to the payroll in the offseson.
Now we just have to see if they have the guts and resolve.
Raff:
there is NO WAY pohlad/smith have to do anything for next year. bottom line? they made $$$ this year. they could give a rats a** about a championship as long as the benjamins keep rolling in.
I would like to congratulate the Yankees on figuring out how to score without hitting a homerun.
Nice 0.00 ERA for Nathan that inning! ![]()
beltre is past his worth ….. get ryan zimmerman…. immediately. trade nathan for him.
Beltre won’t come to the Twins unless he changes his no trade clause. C’mon this has been talked about for almost a year!j
Beltre’s a free agent, numbnuts.
Mauer is not leaving, at least not for the Spanks. He’ll accept the Twins offer this offseason. He’s going to get nearly 20mil/season.
Tonights’ goats? Ulger for not putting on the stop light until AFTER Punto goes around third. Kubel for striking out another 5 times. All pitchers not names Pavano and Guerrer. Gardie once again for not allowing Guereir to continue.
Who cares if the Twins made it to the post-season! The goal is to win the World Series!
Reading these comments, I’m a little confused. Yes the Twins are getting embarrassed by a clearly superior team with a payroll three times as large. They did win the division, though, right?
Add $25-$30 million, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, more like 2$-3$ million!
Time for a Rally Beer!
As long as the Twins remain competitive in the Central no major changes will be made. They’d have to compete with KC for the cellar for major moves, and the new park is going to be full no matter what for two years.
gardentired doesn’t play the game… but under his management… the fact is…. the twins cannot win in post season. no slam. just fact.
Bobby Valentine. Good one. I read a story about his Sports Bar in Connecticut. Some chicks went up and beat up a girl while she was singing Karaoke. That made the national news.
If I gotta see that fat red face of Ron Gardenhire in the dugout next year I’m gonna blow a gasket. For real.
Hahaaha Ryan Zimmerman? and for nathan??? wow dude, what color is the sky in your fantasy land?
package morneau and nathan together and get some new blood in here- i can live with cuddy at first…..
Getting to the playoffs shouldn’t be good enough.
I’ve said this before-Gardy may have taken the Twins as far as he can. Maybe someone else can actually get some wins out of this team in the playoffs?
This will be our 9th straight loss in the playoffs. I was wrong earlier, my bad.
Gus They were very lucky to win the division.
Best hope for Kubel is a K. Better than GIDP
i love how the announcer says fisted. one time this series he said…. and it’s fisted into the hole…. nice.
Rally time!! Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Bobby V is coaching in Japan isnt he?
Yes, Gus. but the goal should be to compete for a World Series, not hope to get lucky. If the Twins were in the East or West they woulf have been under .500 IMO.
Hit #1, Cuddyer. Kubel and Young hit, two outs, them Punto wins it with a GS.
Yesterday morning Steve Philips was on ESPN radio saying how Gardenhire should get Manager of the Year. These guys in the national media do not watch every Twins game. They see the Twins make a nice little come back and assume it’s all Gardenhire.
How about the 9/10ths of season they played sub-500 ball?
mj1,
If they trade Morneau now there would be no chance Mauer signs.
If Mauer walks, then I would be more open to trading Mr. May.
Yes, the Twins would be 3rd place in both the AL East and AL West with their record in the regular season.
fan on the field
yeah walter nice call on Kubel you loser
Twins sign Mauer for $25mil? The Yanks have that much walking around money in their pockets. Hopefully we can get some help from Rochester next season.
Lmao
hah, did a fan just run out?
If anything, Gardenhire could be Manager of the Month(September).
9 Ks in 14 ABs for Kubel–4 Ks tonight–he get’s the sombrero. . .
Have another beer .
Funny. The guy running in the outfield.
That fan was wearing a Blyleven Jersey! Perfect..
LOL, pubel…nathan/pukel/punterrible/cuzzi all yankee mvps for this series.
why do people do this at the dome? I grew up in Baltimore watching the Orioles play, and i have only seen one person run on the field in the 10 years i went to O’s games.
valentine is done with japan after this year
9 Ks in 14 ABs for Kubel–4 Ks tonight–he gets the sombrero. . .
Was that Blyleven sporting his early 80’s powder blue gamer???
That fan wanted to see if he could make it around 3rd without getting tagged out.
Make that Double A for Kubel.
Kubel should spell his name with a backwards ‘K’ on his jersey.
Fussface, care to make that interesting? It’s not about the moolah for Mauer now…it’s about playing for a team whose ownership actually wants to win, not just settle for screwing over the blackmailed fans and Hennepin County. Gus, even in a state filled with ugly girls, someone gets to be its representative to the Miss America contest.
Our rally monkey!
kubel really folded under the pressure of the playoffs.
Kubel should get to keep the sombrero now — a record setting performance
Ha! Number 28 with the powder blue throwback jersey. They don’t usually show fans who run on the field.
If it wasn’t for the Vikings being 5-0, I don’t know what I’d do with my life.
He should have tried to do a Spider Man up the baggie!
That fan should be our new baserunning coach. Good jump, good form
Thank you mlb.tv for showing that me.
I got kicked off the Metrodome field in 1982. After the game, though.
So dose Kubel get paid for tonight?
Way to make him work, Delmon!
Attaboy!
hit him in the junk!
DY dp.
That fan wanted to see if he could make it around 3rd without getting tagged out.
that’s funny shaun
how many k’s is that in the 3 game series - 35 or more?
C’mon guys! It all starts with two outs!
I wonder how the Yankees will respond now that they’re done facing minor league teams in the playoffs.
..the champagne is chilled….glad our plucky little club could deliver it to them personally.
Some of these posts are quite funny. I have to laugh reading posts that rip on the guys who, without their contribution, this team would not have had a sniff of the post-season. Yes, Nathan struggled. Yes, Kubel struggled. But you know what? It’s sports. Things don’t always go the way you want them to. If they did, it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun to celebrate when things go right.
Kubel and Delmon thought that game last Tuesday was the end of the season apparently.
“Yes, the Twins would be 3rd place in both the AL East and AL West with their record in the regular season.” Yes, but the Twins play in the Central. The 1987 Twins would have been in fourth place in the AL East.
No secret Twins have some holes to fill. It may be an interesting off-season. It was a fun year, except for the embarrassing last 2 games.
very sad performance to end it and a wonderful pitching performance by carl…i hope hes back….
Last out will be who, Harris? Look to Lardy to throw him under the bus at the post game interview.
I think Span is the only one coming out of this series blameless.
For the record, Harris is the last out ever in the Dome.
OMG - what a play be Jeter to end game
Its ok Nathan sit there and sulk, when you realize how much money you have, you wont feel to bad for very long.
Wow am I sick of hearing about Jeter. “Ground ball to Jeter, how apropos.” Chip Caray needs a beating.
hard to swallow….s h i t
BYE-BYE GARDY. Disgraceful performance.
Harris for the last out in the dome!
Typical MN finish. Swept in the 1st round!
Thanks 2244, I agree!
A fitting team for the last season in the Plastic Palace.
Hopefully this will convince the F.O. that they have some holes to fill.
Its been a blast peeps. thx for all the virtual arguments. see yall on the flip side.
..oh, and one more thing, FIRE VAVRA?!?!!? HAAHAHAHA
Holy cow how did Jeter make that play? Seriously incredible!
Torii Hunter-kick this crap out of these guys for us.
Gardy drives me nuts some times with this pitcher management,,, ie putting Nathan in when he clearly doesnt have it. But for him to even win this weak division, Gardy is doing something right. The real problem is cheap CArl Pohlad running this team from his grave, and Bill Smith his toady doing his bidding. This team to up the payroll another 20-30 million, and get three more key players
Yeah, whatever.
I’m sad to see baseball leave that place. Two World Championships, unbelievable. I will never ever forget that, such a big part of my life and my two fine son’s lives. I just can’t believe we won TWO World Championships.
Unbelievable.
Mauer sitting there in the dugout watching the Yankees celebrate…his face looked like he was saying to himself that he’d be doing that in NY pinstripes in ‘11.
seriously, way to many K’s in a 3 gamer
ya lets hire Wally Backman to replace him lol
Kubel
2004 Playoffs: 1-7, 2K’s
2009 Playoffs: 1-14, 9K’s
Worthless. Utter garbage.
I’d take three Punto’s over that trash line. Even with the base running mistake.
Way to rollover and play dead for the Yankees, I guarantee the Angels won’t do that! Angels in 5, let’s go Hunter and Company!
Here’s what I think.
I pulled for the Twins all year, and this is what the fans get.
In Games 2 and 3:
Nathan looks like a college pitcher.
Gomez doesn’t know the rules of the game, as in being tagged out for no reason before the base runner could touch home plate.
Mauer, yes, is cheated by Cuzzi out of a double. But then he singles, refuses to go to 3B on a hit to right, plays station to station baseball, then only goes to third on a single, then takes a stroll home on the final force out of the inning — giving the Twins zero runs with the bases loaded and behind by one.
Nathan? Is this where I can use the word “impotent” in his choke in Game 2? Just want to know — without challenging his manhood.
Nothing better than Punto, though. He violates the cardinal rule of baseball — never make the first or last out at third base — oh, and he only represented the tying run in the bottom of the 8th.
Gardenhire — I like him — but he refuses to even argue the fair ball double in Game 2 — he sits his butt on the bench and does nothing.
The Twins not only deserve to lose == they should give an apology to the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers and Leyland actually may have actually tried to beat the Yankees.
Oh, and as part of the collapse, the Twins give up 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th and now it is 4-1.
The Twins used to stand for something, and I was so excited about the move to the outdoor ball park. These Twins need to be buried in the ruins of the Metrodome — bring back the Washington Senators — and let the Nationals return to be the Montreal Expos.
As in Apocalypse Now: “Nuke them, nuke ‘em all.”
Ahhhh, the national humiliation. Don’t you just love it
I won’t mind if Joe Mauer signs with the Yankees and wins several World Series with them. The Twins have blown all their chances to do anything this decade, so it would be fitting.
And I definitely DO NOT want to hear A-Roids thoughts after the final game of the greatest sports arena in Minnesota history. So shut the ef up.
I remember how the Twins winning in 1987 made the Vikings loss in the 1987 NFC championship bearable.
Maybe the Vikings can repay the favor this year.
Gardy won’t be fired. Not the Twins way.
To echo some points, will the Twins fill the holes with the additional boost coming from Target Field?
Jbiowa– You know what the line will be— Morneau, Neshek and Bonser will be back next year– that is like a blockbuster trade!
why would Mauer want to stay with this team? The fact that he grew up here is not enough. Its a shame with a player of that skill having to be on a mediocre team year after year. Pohalds, Fat Arse Bill SMith: DO SOMETHING!
Actually, Baker (game 163), Blackburn and Pavano were all steadier than I expected. And even Duensing showed a lot of promise. Most of the bullpen … not so much but there were some good innings out of the BP as well.
Was Kubel in the lineup the las three games? An automatic out for sure! Saw Mauer talking to Crede in the dugout, telling Crede how good he will look in Yankees pinstripes come 2011…
Mauer will re-sign here. He walks on water here and the media pretty much leaves him alone off the field. He’d face way more scrutiny in NY or Boston.
We lost because Petite is a better christian then Pavano. There was nothing we could do.
Hey TBS. Target Field is across downtown. Not across the street.
Mauer isn’t going anywhere and thank goodness for the Vikes.
Two other mediocre teams that were in the playoffs besides the Twins; Cards and BoSux. Geez those two teams suck also.
To echo some points, will the Twins fill the holes with the additional boost coming from Target Field?
The draw of outdoor baseball will fill the seats next summer. No reason for the FO to spend ANY money. They will say they need to save all of it to sign Mauer anyway.
“This has to fall on the manager who has shown time and time again that he does not know how to win a big game.”
“how to win a big game” is identical to how you win any game.
If you don’t understand that, you are not qualified to criticize those who have actually been involved in big games.
Joe, se how Rivera does it, not that tough.
It would be fitting to have Joe Mauer’s plaque next to Derek Jeter’s in Moument Park after he wins 3 World Series MVPs with them next decade.
Ya how about that base running? Is that good coaching? The Twins cannot get the basics right! Fire Gardenhire. You simply cannot reward failure.
Twins now 2-16 in their last 18 playoff games. WOW.
Twins did not look ready for this series. Every time they make the postseaon they come out flat. Lay that on the manager.
Scary thing is that Punto may be back at $4 million per year. Problem is that if not Punto, Gardy will keep Tolbert and that is even worse [but it saves $$]. Gomez is too dumb to be a good MLB player, who plays 3rd base. is Nathan done? Lots and lots of ???
Always remember that the 2 World Champions featured a nucleus of players scouted, drafted, and signed by the Griffith family. The relevant organization (i.e. scouts, etc.) have ties to the Griffiths, not the Pohlads. Since they purchased the team, the Pohlads paid the bills and signed the checks, and maintained a miserly budget. Imagine this team with Hunter and Santana. The Twins have won 2 post season games against the Yankees (2003 and 2004), both were started by Johan Santana, and were played in Yankee Stadium. Here’s hoping that Torii wins a ring this year. Hasta la vista, Lil’ Nicky.
The starting pitching was very good. The bullpen was called on the hold some thin leads. The offense was a shambles.
“telling Crede how good he will look in Yankees pinstripes come 2011″
ANYONE in pinstripes looks like sh*t.
“The draw of outdoor baseball will fill the seats next summer. No reason for the FO to spend ANY money. They will say they need to save all of it to sign Mauer anyway.”
Then they’ll make Mauer what sounds like a credible offer only to have the Yankees make an offer that tacks on two years and doubles the dollar amount. It’s called the Torii Hunter strategy.
WJ-
Twins offense always sucks in the playoffs.
Seems like the Twins’ bats just stop working after the regular season.
Who is at fault for that?
Mauer would die of stage fright in New Jork.
It would be fitting to have Joe Mauer’s plaque next to Derek Jeter’s in Moument Park after he wins 3 World Series MVPs with them next decade
Well they’ve only won 1 this decade and that was in 2000 and they are aging all the time. I’m not convinced they’ll beat the Angels this year.
I actually don’t see Joe in pinstripes. I hope he’ll be in Minny but even if he isn’t, I just don’t see him going to NY.
bite me tpawlenty. hopefully your imaginary friend has better things to pay attention to around the would than a baseball game. oh… that’s right. your friend hasn’t been paying attention to the big acts of god……… like tsumanis that kill thousands of innocent people.
Just think next year with all the games on one network and MLB with the stupid starting times we could have October baseball in 30 degree weather and games starting at 8:00 p.m. We will miss the Dome!
Walter it would help if we didn’t wait til the final day to make the playoffs. If we could get a big lead in the division we could coast into the playoffs and do some damage. Er, wait, that happened once and we didn’t do anything then either. Guess we’ll have to wait a little longer.
“ANYONE in pinstripes looks like sh*t.”
Especially our Twins!
So whats the over/under on Baby Jesus re-signing with the Twin?
Thanks, Bill Smith … for nothing. If anyone should lose his job, it’s BS!
I was a fun season, but (from beginning to end) we away far too many games.
… and we’ll see you next year!
Seems like the Twins’ bats just stop working after the regular season.
And it lasts until at least mid-May of the next season.
Interleague play and September are the only times this team shows any fire.
Memo to Chip Carey. “When the Twins move across the street next year” Are we playing next season at Hubert’s? He was just awful during the series. I never realized how bad he was.
Maybe Gardy shouldn’t always be so fixated on “having fun” and “go out and enjoy it” and try to take care of business. That ‘have fun’ attitude might work in 5th grade soccer, but it’s obviously not working in major league baseball. 2-16 in the last 18 playoff games is hideous!
Post-game cliche’s for everyone! Yay, mediocrity!
My point exactly sy, but Mauer is going think long and hard about the FO getting some players to get them past this point.
There is no joy in Twinsville.
Funny to read all the Twins fans who have such low self-esteem that they don’t feel they deserve to have Joe Mauer on their team.
THAT’S pathetic!
Why don’t the Twins operate our Big Gov’t and just start printing money to afford expensive free agents.
TBS/TNT is bad… David Aldridge and Craig Sager are NBA guys… Brutal..
Bill Smith did a great job in late-July, early August. But doing a good job for two weeks out of a long season is not enough to make up for his pitiful performance the rest of the year.
Hey, that kind of sounds like our “Manager of the Year” Gardenhire.
Why don’t the Twins operate our Big Gov’t and just start printing money to afford expensive free agents.
That’s how the Yankees do it
Great ninth inning fo the Twins pitchers! Leave Gurrier in and it might have only a one run game going into the bottom of the inning.
Boo-hoo.
We are so inferior to all things, New York.
Joe Mauer deserves better than pitiful, pitiful us.
DIDGUSTING!!!!!
Well it was a hell of a ride! 3 games out with 4 to play. I think anyone that follows this team on daily basis knew our depleted offense would finally be exposed. 6 runs in 3 games. Tough series for Kubel and Morneau and Crede could have made a big difference. Base running, situational hitting and 9th inning pitching was just horrid. I guess I’ll try and forget this series and just think about how great the Detroit game was and I was there to see it. I didn’t want to drive 670 miles today round trip and watch the Yankees celebrate. At least I saw the Twins final win at the Dome and the North Stars last win at the Met Center.
Maybe Chip Caray sucks since he is sober when in the both, unlike his granddadday?
Some observations:
1. 2-16 IS deplorable in the last 18 playoff games.
2. Many faces we see on this year’s Twins will be gone next year.
3. We will miss the Dome much more than we imagine. It was built for a reason.
4. We have too many major sports attractions in this market. Someone has to move out to allow the remaining ones to thrive. Gopher football, Gopher basketball, Gopher hockey, Wild, Timberwolves, Twins, Vikings. Name a smaller market with all of those major programs competing for attention. Name any market.
the twins have poor starting pitching. a poor bullpen (with a great closer who performed poorly) and a lineup missing their 2nd best hitter.
the yankees are a bunch of hall of famers. add steriods to that mix and BAM.
see you at target field!
I choose to believe that Bill Smith is coming into his own. As Walter said, he pulled out some good acquisitions in late summer.
The question is how much is ownership going to let him spend. Does anybody know what the revenues would be based on the % they’ve always applied?
On Gardenhire, I ranted much earlier. I will NEVER understand why he kept putting Morneau in the #4 spot from August 15-September 14 (except for the games Justin was out). But I’ve now accepted that they won’t take the move to Target Field away from him — they’ve made him the face of their advertising for Target.
do you think this could be the year of tha all LA series? Would love to see the Dogers in there, except the fact they have Manny the steroid man…
we can hate the yankees……… and how i hate the yankees….. but the twins chumped it again. 2-16 in last 18 post season games under gardentired. he doesn’t play the game… but there seems to be a trend here.
Gardy should have been fired last year. Now with a new stadium, this Denny Green of baseball will probably be around another two years.
Make way for Scott Ulger. Maybe he can win a playoff game!
Well the Red Sox and Cardinals got swept as well. We’re not alone.
sy, no, it’s more like we have so much respect for Mauer that we don’t want to see him toil away, wasting his immense skill in the prime of his playing career on a low-budget, fake team with ownership that only cares about lining its pockets at the expense of everyone else’s hopes and dreams.
Mauer has to be our trump card here. As many have pointed out, Cheap Carl running the team from the grave has no incentive to go out and spend money when people will come to Target Field anyway next year. Mauer needs to put the fear of God into the front office, and let them know that he is GONE if they dont do something to make this team competitive beyond just winning a weak division. Maybe we should feel content to win divisions many years. but Mauer and Morneau are in their prime NOW, and now is the only period i nour generation when we may have the chance to have a top team by adding just a couple of other pieces.
the twins great closer “always” plays horrible in the playoffs, mighty casey. i would like to see angels and rockies.
I actually think Jim Pohland will spend some money. After all, he’s playing with dad’s cash.
nicky feels bad but it’s harris’ fault.
make that Pohlad…
i still can’t believe it. couldn’t even win one out of 10 games against the yankees.
gobbledygookguy says:nicky feels bad but it’s harris’ fault…………. funny. and nick had a great series too… before that. tie run would have scored in the bottom of the eigth with that fly to center too.
Orlando Cabrera hit the final Twins home run at the Dome. Hope he is re-signed.
Now, Now. The Twinw had a GREAT season, made the playoffs. Punto made a small mistake tonight, but as Caray said: Punto is a grea player, THE heart and soul of this tqm. He will lead in 2010.
Twins swing at way to many first pitches, even Mauer did. Also, way to many strikeouts making the Yankee pitchers look better than they really are. Anyone can win 19 games with the kind of run support they get from that overpaid bunch of….
good nicky it’s the fans fault!
I say no to Cabrera, go out and get JJ Hardy from the Brewers. Figgins at third and O-Hudsson at second next year.
ryan zimmerman at third. defense and a bat. watched him play at college in virginia. he is the one. trade nathan now. he has turned into everday joe… and certainly can’t step up in playoff pressure.
don’t hurt yourself cuddy patting yourself on the back!
h20face, said that on this forum just recently about getting Zimmerman.
Hardy I can see. Brewers want pitching and I can’t wait to see Glen Perkins on his way out.
Figgins? Forget that. Will cost too much even though he would fit in well here.
O-Hud. I doubt that since LNP will be cashing in that $4 million next year.
Steve H. I like your thinking on Orlando Hudson. Figgins is going to get 10 million a year..so it won’t happen.
Gardy threw Anderson under the bus for all the pitching changes. Said put Nathan out there was a “stupid situation” and words to the effect all those ptiching changes is what Anderson wanted.
Who is managing this team? Gardy or Anderson?
It is pretty pathetic when your DH is a kid named Morales, why wasn’t Buscher in this game tonight? Think he could have done better than the kid, would have been nice to get Delmon in from second. BTW, the Yanks had a DH who could hit the ball out of the park.
negativity on this board is absolutely hilarious.
Mighty Casey, did you enjoy seeing the overpriced Yankees go 10-0 against the Twins? I sure didn’t, where is there anything positive in that 0-10?
Yeah buff it was interesting.
I know Andy is the pitching coach, but he isn’t the one walking out there make the changes.
Gardy also defended Punto by saying he had his head down and that’s why he missed the sign.
While true, why wasn’t his head up?
couldn’t even win one game with the yankees all year. ahead in every one. no moxie. can’t take the pressure. where is torii hunter when you need him.
NO EXCUSE FOR PUNTO’s F-U. none. nada. zip. the dumbest professional base running play of the year in all of baseball when you include the circumstance. THE WORST. real pros always look at the coach there.
True colors shown. What a jerk.
Torii Hunter is in the ALCS going for his first ring.
I wish him well. That being said, the Angels paid him much more than anyone else thought he would get, so the Twins had no chance to keep him.
just venting walter…….. love the twins…. just trying to do something other than killing myself because of the pain. and it was the dumbest baserunning play of the season in all of baseball. if there was an espy for that category he would win. at least then the twins would have won something in the playoffs.
torii is proving to earn his pay totally though…………
and it was the dumbest baserunning play of the season in all of baseball
did you see game 2?
anybody that throws the ball back at the pitcher after he gets plunked like that is tops in my book! and his foundation to further the young ballplayers is epic. torii is the man.
I would say Punto’s bonehead baserunnin was worse since it was later in the game.
The Twins actually still had a chance to win game 2 until Nathan imploded against the big bad Yankees and the Twins forgot with the bases loaded it’s ok to score some runs.
i don’t know….. that was a slip first… carlos looked to the coach…. like he was supposed to…. and slipped.. like maurer around first base when he hurt his hip….. so not as blatantly unprofessionally dumb. plus, punto gets paid 4 mil to not be dumb. my vote goes to nicky.
All things being said here, the following is true, Anderson runs all the pitching, Gardy even said so, Anderson was a bad pitcher and a worse coach, Vara has no clue either, either those two go or all three must leave. Sure we we were injured and alike, but Gardy made a lot of mistakes during the season and his players do some dumb things. Being the good guy and hustling is not always going to cut it excuse wise. This team needs a wake up call. To win the pathetic Central is no longer enough for this team.
filthym
I 100% agree with you.
AL Central titles don’t put trophies in display cases.
Need to put a real World Series contender on the field next year or I worry what may happen with #7.
good call filthy46. nothing personal.. i like them as people… but they have history…. and it is not good in the playoffs……
Gardy is the constant on this team since 2002, players have come and gone.
So from the 2002 ALCS on, the Twins either have won only 1 game in each playoff series or been swept.
Somewhere that has to fall on Gardy-whether he goes or shakes up his coaching staff.
In addition when healthy we have the M & M boys and if we add an infield piece and trade Nathan and Perkins we can get some depth. Maybe that Gibson kid could be a plus and that young kid who will eventually play short. We do not need to spend too much money but we need to get over this hump, there is no reason to constantly fail in the playoffs. Gardy needs to change the mentality of this team as well, we seem to accept losing to the BIG BOYS, these guys have to get pissed off, starting now…
if they would show up and at least lose 3 games to 1…. or 3-2… or 4-1 or 4-2…. or 4-3…. you know …. win at least one game when they get to they playoffs under these coaches….. then i would say they might be able to render those intangible attributes and be inspirational enough to do it one day. but 2-16 in the playoffs? that is history and fact and painful. and pretty embarrassing for them i would think.
filthy46, it seems like no team wanted to win the Central, Sox faded and the Tigers were just pretenders. Th Twins got hot at the right time, while the other teams were losing. What will it take to get the Twins to that next level? It’s going to take a bigger payroll to make this team good top to bottom, but will they spend the money?
Why are these so-called successful years always so disappointing?
Sure increase the payroll some, I agree, but we have good young pitching and more depth coming back from injuries. We need to see Guerra in spring training, he throws bullets and WE NEED A POWER ARM THAT SCARES PEOPLE, Nathan is done in my book. The pressure is too much and he is a nibbler far too much, his greatness as an intimadator is done, his trade value would be fairly high and thrown in Perkins. As I said throw in one other solid piece and you are set. THE PLAYERS WE HAVE MUST STEP AND DEVELOP THEIR GAMES IN POST SEASON PLAY AND MANAGER AS WELL 2-16 AGAINST VARIOUS TEAMS IS DISGUSTING…
the dumbest play…. the absolute dumbest including any category that could be concieved of…. the very dumbest play in all of baseball this year was milton bradley’s throwing the ball into the stands in wigley field after he caught the second out with runners on against us …….
Having Redmond catch with Mauer at DH today might not have been a bad idea. Redmond is 2 for 3 with 2 BB against Pettitte.
Nathan sure wasn’t pitching well in the latter part of the season, I think he lost confidence in the fast ball. It didn’t have the zip and movement that it usually had. Seemed to not challenge the hitters as much and was nibbling.
it always feels to me like the current management trades away or defeats those with the real spirit that it takes to step up in the playoffs. gardy tried to change garza instead of coach him to be his best…… he was already an alcs mvp, with his very next management team. bartlett shines……… just a couple examples.
Twins need to get Cantu from the Marlins to play 3rd base. He is a number 4 hitter for them and is attainable.
need maurer’s arm… if you wanted redmond in the game… it would have had to have been dh.
I will end it here, the Twins need to make some adjustments to their philosophy and what they expect around here. Their goal should be to win a WS and the front office must decide realistically who can help us not only reach the post season but put a team and a coaching staff on the field that has the mentality and moxie to get after it and turn around our post season play. Yes we can spend some money but as I said the attitude they take to Target field must be different, after this series, they should be somewhat embarassed and pissed off at themselves and the Yankees. I want to see them play with a chip on their shoulder and talk about it as well. Soft is for ice cream boys, it is time to toughen up and expect more from yourselves, sometimes more than a good effort is required, see you next year….
someone on the team needs to be a captain… and bang some heads…. more mentally than physically speaking hear.
Kevin H, I thought that as well, Morales hasn’t been doing the job as DH lately. I think even Buscher would have been a better choice.
it won’t hurt as much tomorrow i suppose..
go angels…….. our feet are stained…… singing out
This series was an embarassment, and when the Angels take out the Yankees quite easily it will be even more of one.
I think the Twins will be favorites in the division next year, with healthy Morny, Slowey, Neshy & Boofy, but we all know the team will not spend any real money. O-Cab had some good moments, but he’ll be offered more by somebody. Pavano did well enough to get a contract the Twins won’t match. No chance do we lock up Mauer this offseason. We may sign him eventually, but its gonna go down to the bitter end.
They gotta get rid of Nathan though while they can still get a decent trade package. He’s proven he cannot be relied on to ever get that big game pressure save, so what good is he?
The organization has to do something. We have shown(or Gardy has) that we are incapable of beatng the Yankees, Red Sox and Angels. Well, those 3 teams all spend the money and are not gonna be going anywhere. Year after year we can contend in the central, but if we can NEVER beat these teams, then what is the point? I know game 163 was exciting, but with the way this ended I’d have rather they lost that 4th game at Detroit and ended the dome era by sweeping KC. Instead the dome is closed out with the Yankees celebrating as we go down with a whimper. That’s almost as bad as the Tim Brewster masterpiece against Iowa!
Gardy will never be fired, but he simply has to change his approach to ever be a big time manager. His teams play scared against the marquee teams. The TK Twins relished the pressure, the Gardy Twins fold under it every single time.
Punto is a Great Player?! Did someone really post that in this blog. WOW, someone really had too much Twins Kool Aid! I suppose the person that posted that would rather have Punto then say someone like Robinson Cano?? The team has lost 9 consecutive playoff games and people are saying this was a great season. This team won the worst division in the MLB. This team lacks starting pitching, a middle infield a Left Fielder and a 3B. If Billy Smith can improve those areas this off-season they may be able to break their playoff slump.
h2oface,
My comment wasn’t directed at you but toward a certain member of the Twins.
The Twins got beat by a much better team - period. That being said, we could have done better. Never a fan of Gardy - don’t think he manages a game very well and his players do not appear to be baseball savvy. In his defense, he does not have a great roster to work with. He has a pretty good roster - not great. Needs a bona fide #1 pitcher. Need to sign Joe, O Cab. and Pavano. If those 4 things happen, good things will follow.
coyotetom-very realistic post.Joe C,you and LaVelle should find a way to have a blog for true fans, not social misfits!
