Properly Exhausted

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

“What’s that pipe under the car?”
“That’s my exhaust system.”
“I thought that ran between the seats.”
“Very amusing.”

So the B’s (’69 MGB GT’s) exhaust system got knocked off pulling out of Target Monday night. Good news was it fit between the seats like a pair of skis. Bad news was it was no longer attached to the car.

I had no exhaust hangers, so I had the good crew at TA’s Automotive up the street put it back on right. By right, I mean they pointed the exhaust clamps upwards where their protruding threaded ends couldn’t reach out and grab the pavement. Wish I’d have made that change before scraping it off in the first place.

Better late than never–at least, that’s one of the gospels I was raised on (along with, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all,” which is why I haven’t said anything at all about whoever originally installed the exhaust system on this car).

Here’s the bummer: Rear mounting strap held on and flared rear valence before snapping. Ouch!
