“Like that mirror? Fifty bucks.” Those bullet taillights strike your fancy? They’re yours.
We’ve been talking here and at the British V8 website about our favorite salvage yards–those everything’s-for-sale museums of automotive history. A few of the yards folks have mentioned so far are
French Lake
Rohners in Willmar
Weekly’s in Grand Forks
Windy Hill
Do you have a favorite salvage yard, or a favorite memory of one? What is it and what sort of cars did you see?
You’ve already listed all of the ones I like, and have been to. Another one that doesn’t have so much old stuff, but is reasonable is “U Pull R Parts” in Rosemount. If you’re looking for parts for a daily runner or an engine for a project, this place may be for you. They have lots of different types of both domestic and foreign cars to get parts from. My son found a Mr Goodwrench crate motor in an older Chevy pickup he bought for $125. It’s in good shape and cleaned up nicely. It’s amazing what people will throw away.
And it’s good what people will throw away too. :^)
You’re right. What’s amazing is that when we pulled the oil pan, it turned out to have a 4 bolt main and the heads have big valves.
Sweet!!
