Unwanted Thirtieth Anniversary Corvette

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

I’m doing a little house cleaning lately and have decided that I do not need an Official 30th Anniversary 1983 Corvette in my garage. I never drive it–ever. I don’t think it even has any miles on it.

I’m willing to let it go very, very cheap. For a song maybe. Or less.

In fact, if anyone has an authentic Mickey Mantle baseball card, in exchange for it, I will relinquish to that person all right and title I have to this undriven 30th Anniversary Corvette.

All I ask is that before you agree, you take a quick look on the internet to make sure you like the way the official 1983 model looks. :^)

So out of the 44 made, how come yours has never been driven? How did it get from Bowling Green to Minnesota?

Where can I find a photo of the car?

Yeah, my offer leans heavily on the 30th Anniversary Edition (and quitclaim deed) language

I think Jules Verne would have enjoyed my garage. While it looks small from the street, it has the capacity to hold one of every automobile that doesn’t exist. Someday I hope to sell the whole collection on eBay.

If somebody will pay thousands for a grilled cheese sandwich resembling the Virgin Mary my Complete Collection of Non-existent Automobiles should be enough to retire upon.

Sorry Charles, your message initially went into the spam filter on the website and I just found it.

Reportedly because of some quality control problems, GM never released a 1983 Corvette and officially the model doesn’t exist. It’s the 30th Anniversary Corvette that never was.

Some 40-odd (44 says one site I found quickly; 47 says another) cars were assembled as prospective 1983 models but GM destroyed them. Apparently the revisions or improvements they made took long enough that they decided to skip ‘83 as a model year and go directly to ‘84. One of the 40-odd cars assembled for testing is at the National Corvette Museum. It is still owned by GM, according to the description below, and was never sold. Photo here:

My post was a bit of a trivia quiz; hope no one is too disappointed. Just meant for fun.

If you’ve got the Mickey Mantle card, I’ve got the quitclaim deed. :^)
(Apologies for the nerdy law humor.)
