A ‘Cycle Built for Two–or Three

In a prior post, we showed a Ural motorcycle and sidecar out for a cold winter spin. I had said it was a driven-wheel sidecar and Paul asked if I was sure.

This rider is rugged, so I found the bike again by Diamond’s Coffee Shop on Central Ave. This Ural is a powered-sidecar model. Pictured is the driveshaft arrangement from the motorcycle to the sidecar wheel.

There was another bike there this visit–a 1944 Harley Davidson WLA, stilled owned and ridden by its original buyer. Its sidecar is the typical non-powered kind.

Thanks for the follow up Kris. I see that the owner of the Ural must have a problem with accidentally engaging the sidecar drive. Either that or it pops out of position on it own. He has it locked in one position with a nylon tie

Good eye–I didn’t notice that when I shot the photo or when I cropped it down in iPhoto. (Maybe I was too busy with the largely unsuccessful effort to blur the license plate.)

Do you mean the Harley with sidecar? I can email you a couple shots.

The owner is a great guy. I’m putting him and his bike in a book I’m writing and we shot him and it outside when it was 5 below zero. The photographer and I were freezing but he didn’t mind.
