One of our readers wrote to inform us about a seminar coming up October 6-7 at the U of M Conference Center. ” Journey Into Life: What Babies Want Us to Know.”  I had never heard of peri-natal psychology until I read a description of the event.

It reminded me of a friend’s discussion with her 7 year old son’s pediatrician concerning some behavioral issues he was having. The doctor inquired if he had a traumatic birth.  As a matter of fact, yes, he was born via emergency c-section, the cord was wrapped around his neck along with some other complications.  She said that experience couild be a factor in the issues he was currently having. I had never considered that how you came into this world would have any repercussions down the road.

I’m still not sure about how I feel about that. I know it states the examples given are generalizations, but I hope my baby doesn’t use drugs as a solution to stress because I chose to have an epidural. This school of thought is new to me. I am intrigued yet skeptical.

I’ll turn this over to you all to discuss, if anyone can offer further insights or examples, please do. Or if you  disagree let us know.
