Road Trip (follow up)

Thanks to everyone who offered up valuable rest stop advice for driving with a baby through Wisconsin. I will have to save your recommendations for another trip. We had to make a judgement call and Ben ended up staying home with dad as he was too sick to travel. He had a double ear infection and bronchitis. Peter brought home a nebulizer from the doctor appointment. I thought it was going to be one of those “L-shaped” inhalers. Instead I came home to find Ben sitting in his high chair with his mouth wrapped around this baby hookah pipe contraption. But it did the trick, he’s now on the mend.
So I made the trip alone, as I had to go celebrate my best friends wedding. And a lovely wedding it was. But leaving them behind was difficult on many levels. First the guilt of feeling I was abandoning my sick baby. And the emptiness of being at the wedding alone without my two favorite guys. Then there was serious pain for not pumping before I went to the ceremony. I was running late, I thought I’d be fine. Nope. Hugging people goodbye at the end of the evening was excruciating. Oh, and when Madonna’s “Express Yourself” came on during the dance, it was just a cruel, cruel joke. Thanks Madge!
I turned around the next day and hurried back to the boys. They survived without me just fine and mama got a chance to reminisce and get her groove back on the dance floor with her old college cronies.
