Toddle with me

When my oldest started learning to walk, I remember being amazed by her determination to keep picking herself up, no matter how many times she fell and cried. I remember thinking how so many of us lose the courage to try as we get older, acquiring somewhere along the way the ridiculous notion that as adults we’ve learned everything we can learn. And the first time she turned around on the sidewalk and started toddling away from me, I thought (heart in my throat): This is just the beginning.
In this poignant piece (free registration may be required) from the NYT mag yesterday, D.T. Max draws a starker parallel with his toddler’s first steps and his own walking disability.
