If alcohol isn't in your bloodstream then it won't be in your milk. If you're safe to drive then you're safe to nurse. Kim, your experience just goes to show the woeful inadequacy of lactation education provided to today's health care providers. I'd never waste money on a test like this.

I don't drink, but I can't believe anyone would tell a nursing mom to pump and dump for 24 hours after drinking...you don't need to p/d at all. From everything I have read, it's safe to nurse even after a couple drinks. If you have a few, wait a few hours. Pumping and dumping shouldn't be necessary unless you drank nuclear waste.

I had a nurse tell me to drink beer in the evenings and it will increase my milk supply. I'm not a big beer fan, but I was hoping wine would have the same effect :)

I allowed myself two glasses of wine on Thanksgiving and waited an hour to pump after consuming each one. Baby has since consumed bottles and everything seems fine.

Interesting. When I took a nursing class through my hospital when my first was born (who alas, did not nurse) I was told the safest thing for me to do if I decided to drink was A) plan ahead and pump untainted milk before hand, and B) "Pump and Dump" for 24 hours after consuming my last drink.
