According to this article the above Chili’s jingle had been one of the most prevalent “ear worms”. You know, those songs or ditties that get stuck in your head and won’t go away.

I was thinking of this when one of our regular Cribsheet commentors, bsimon, mentioned in the Ralph’s World post below that he had one of Ralph’s catchy tunes stuck in his head for days. I realized that parenthood has increased my likelihood of an ear worm outbreak ten-fold.

Surrounded by kids songs, CDs, shows, and toys that sing is ripe fodder for ear worms. Even a Mozart movement can get annoying if it plays over and over in your head.
One of Ben’s singing toys in particular has engrained itself in both my husbands and my head lately. This overexuberant gingerbread man sings a song to a samba-fied version of “Someone’s in the Kitchen with Dinah” The toy also sings sporadically on it’s own without pushing or prompting. But the “possessed toy” topic is an entirely different post unto itself…

I recently spent a Saturday morning with my niece and nephews and the Disney channel was on in the background. From “Hot Dog, Hot Dog, Hot Diggity Dog”…with the Mickey Mouse Club (a song by They Might Be Giants btw) to “We’re the Doodlebops, We’re the Doodlebops - oh yeah. ” It was a virtual worm infestation that lasted at least a week.

My current earworm may be a result of Ben’s first attempts at words. I have had “Da-Do-Do-Do Da-Da-Da-Da” by the Police going through my head. Or perhaps it’s because Peter just scored us tickets for their upcoming show. (!) At any rate - it’s all I want to say to you Da Do Do Do Da Da Da Da…

How about you? Any maddening ear worms?
