Mother’s Day Countdown
Posted on April 11th, 2007 – 1:34 PMBy Kay Krhin
Looking out the window at the snow flying this morning, Peter and I came up with a new term for April in Minnesota. Spring-ter. Ugh. With the frightful weather outside, it’s hard to believe Mother’s Day is just over a month away. But indeed, it is.For my first Mother’s Day last year, all I wanted - desperately wanted - was to sleep. All night. Great idea in theory. Didn’t happen. Even though my husband got up with 3 1/2 month old Ben and a bottle. I was so used to being up at midnight, 2 am, 4 am, 6 am, I just got up anyway. Later that day Peter sent me out the door. “Go! Shop by yourself, no baby, no stroller, no carseat - just you.” It was lovely. I bought some new running shoes that I had my eye on and took our dog for my first postpartum “run” to break them in. I say “run” because I looked down and saw Chloe just strolling along beside me as I huffed away. I wasn’t moving as fast as I imagined. It’s just as well. I had to turn around and head back anyway - as one side effect of birthing kicked in. I’d heard rumors of it, but of course it wasn’t going to happen to me. Um, I went wee wee wee all the way home. Kegels ladies!
Onward to Mother’s Day 2007. As Peter and I work different shifts, a day spent all together is really what I want. But then a Cribsheet reader recently sent this web site to me. Coolmompicks.com I was impressed with all of the nifty gifty ideas for Mother’s Day. For Mom, Grandma, Mother-to-Be, or hint-dropping. There are unique ideas and mostly feature independent businesses. Hmmmm maybe I’ll have to accidentally leave that page up on our computer screen at home…
