Your Mama! Free Event at Lake Harriet Celebrates Moms and Motherhood

MOMbo’s Nanci Olesen hosts second annual Mother’s Day Celebration

Madre, Mor, Hooyo, Niam, or Mama: Whatever you call her, she’s exceptional. This Mother’s Day, Twin Cities families can put Mom on a pedestal – literally! – during a free celebration of mothers and motherhood at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. Radio host Nanci Olesen and friends will honor moms with an hour of music, prose, poetry and puppetry.

MOMbo’s 2007 Mother’s Day Celebration will take place 2 p.m., rain or shine, at the Lake Harriet Bandshell on Sunday, May 13.  The second annual gathering will feature a mother lode of talent, including Twin Cities actors Thomasina Petrus and Leslye Orr reading the Mother’s Day Proclamation for Peace, written by Julia Ward Howe in 1870.

The Brass Messengers, The Twin Cities Women’s Choir, Thomasina Petrus and singer-songwriter Kate Lynch (and friends) will fill the hour with music. Olesen will emcee again this year, sharing some stories and history of motherhood. Heart of the Beast Theater’s giant puppets will add a colorful presence, and the original multitasker EVERYMOM will make her annual visit.

After the show, families are invited to put their moms on an actual pedestal and snap a keepsake photo. All readings and songs will be interpreted in American Sign Language (ASL). Everyone is welcome.
