Found this bizarre entry on SFGate’s parenting blog, The Poop.

A 4-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital for being “severely lethargic and inchoherent” at preschool. As it turned out, she was drunk from licking the hand sanitizer her teachers put on her hands. According to Snopes.com, the site that tests urban legends, this is completely possible. 

The girl’s OK, but her school banned hand sanitizer after the incident. 

Hand sanitizer has its uses, but young kids might be better served to use the soap and water, if for no other reason than to practice a clean habit.
