Standing Womb Only

Baby #2 is going to his/her first concert in utero next week. As the date draws nearer I’m getting more and more excited. July 3 has been circled in red on my calendar for months and months. The Police concert at the Xcel Energy Center! I wanted to go so bad to their show at Comiskey Park in Chicago back in ‘83. I was too young, no friends who could drive. My older brother went and I was so jealous. The summer of 1983 WAS “Synchronicity summer.” Their singles were ubiquitous, although - I loved their earlier albums even more. Alas, that was the fair-haired trio’s last big tour. Until now…..nearly a quarter of a century later. Who knows maybe some of our readers actually went to one of their concerts in utero. (?)
This unborn child is going to get exposed to my affinity for 80’s music early on. The next show we’re going to is yet another reunion show - Crowded House at the Orpheum. (they are so much more than just “Hey now, Hey now, Don’t Dream it’s Over…)
OK Cribsheeters -tell us - what concerts did you take your fetus to? Or what concerts did your parents take you to while still rockin in the womb?

I took my fetus to the Pearl Jam / Tom Petty show last summer. While the Husband and I preferred Pearl Jam, the baby was really active during Tom Petty (dancing?)
I also took my fetus to Pearl Jam about 3 1/2 years ago. I was about 8 months pregnant and got some “what the heck is she doing here looks” but I had a great time anyway!
I went the Police concert in Chicago in utero! My mom is a HUGE Police fan.
I saw Spearhead when I was about four months pregnant with my first, and Michael Franti even kissed my belly! When I was 8 months preggers with the same little fella, I went to see Prince. Both were fun experiences.
Ah, yes Prince - he’s coming soon too! Unfortunately this fetus will miss his concert at the Target Center next week.
I took my fetus to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert last November at Xcel and he loved it!
We are taking our 6 month fetus to Sting next week as well. I bet he or she can’t wait!
I wanted to take my fetus to Beck back in 2005 but I couldn’t find anyone to go with me!
I was probably about 1 1/2 mos along with baby number 2 when I saw Green Day at the Xcel-general admission tickets and I was pushed right up to the front for a loud, sweaty, amazing show!!! breathed a huge sigh of relief when the nurse told us he passed the hearing test after he was born. Too bad the hubby wouldn’t have agreed to naming him after Billy Joe ![]()
I was five months along when we took our baby girl in-utero to U2 - a point where I could stand through the whole thing without swollen ankles! : )
Last year while living in the Washington, DC area, we were about 5 months along when we saw Joe Nichol and Toby Keith in concert. Then at Christmas we were at the National Cathedral’s Christmas organ recital and now our daughter loves the organ at church!
Our fetus was 5 months when we saw Rascal Flatts in Orlando last year!! To this day, he LOVES Rascal Flatts.
Daughter No. 1 experienced Weezer at the Fargodome at about 6 months in utero. Daughter No. 2 was exposed to the Hold Steady at First Ave. as a four-month-old fetus.
Let’s see. While on vacation in Nashville, we caught a Grand Ole Opry show I was four months pregnant then. Later that summer at six months pregnant I caught Alice Cooper at the Taste. We got back stage after the show (thanks to some old radio contacts I knew from college). Alice is a doting father and spent so much time with my husband and I because of my big belly.
A month later we saw Little River Band at Harriet Island. We sat on the ground and I wished the whole night we had brought chairs.
The last concert was Dwight Yokum at the Zoo when I was eight months pregnant. The seats at the Zoo are NOT conducive to large pregnant behinds. That was the most uncomfortable and last show of my pregnancy. We recieved George Jones (Mystic Lake) tickets as gifts from my in-laws for his October show which was two weeks from my due date. Given my level of discomfort and Mystic Lake’s level of constant second hand smoke I sent my husband alone. He still thinks it was rude not to use the gift given to us as an anniversary present especially since his parents bought the next two seats by us. I say he has never been nine months pregnant and my in-laws must have forgotten over the last 35 years what it feels like at the very end. My daughter was born 9 days after that missed show.
My son went to Motley Crue when I was 1 1/2 months pregnant. It may not develop great music taste in him, but I sure had fun!
When I was pregnant with my daughter, we went to Steve Vai and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Mary Chapin’s opening act was Mindy Smith - she autographed a CD for us that says “Paige - Welcome to the World. Love, Mindy.” My husband suprised me with the CD in between sets and I cried! I’m currently 4 months pregnant and we just went to the Tool concert last week. During this pregnancy, we will also be going to Alison Krauss and Union Station, Steve Vai and Rush.
My little one went to hear the Strokes at about 7 months in utero and at 8 months in utero we bopped to Murs! It was great to stand there with her and feel the occasional movement from her, of course she mostly slept during the Strokes.
one week before our son was born I attended Barbara Streisand with Il Divo. Not the type of music I would normally enjoy but thought it was a rare chance to see Babs and that I should take it!. It was enjoyable. This little boy has a mellow sweet personality but a big booming voice and loves music (all types).
I was about 11 weeks along when we went to see Kenny Chesney….then when I was about 6 months along we saw Dixie Chicks and he only kicked once….he was in awe of the music.
i was 9 months pregnant when i took my fetus to see Gwen Stefani at the Xcel center on june 5th–whoo hoo! we had a great time. ![]()
Exposing them to music of all kinds is great, just be careful of the volume! We were set to go to several concerts when I found out that the noise level can actually stress the fetus, and they may be moving to try to get away from it.
I was about 4 months when we went to see Low at First Ave. (last December). Then this past Saturday night we took her (now two months old) to see Low down at the U of M (of course with good ear protection). Her eyes lit up…maybe she recognized some tunes from the last show!
fabuloso el recital, estaba de vacaciones en minniapolis, lo vi y me emocione mucho, soy de argentina, rio negro.
