Made in China Fears

First food, then toys, now bibs. The Made in China scare is spreading.

Now I’m someone who continued to shop happily at United Noodles even as reports of tainted food from China hit the news. Nor did we throw out Zoe’s Dora the Explorer suitcase or kitchen set after Mattel recalled part of the range from toy store shelves. (Here’s the recall list.)

But baby bibs? Turns out some vinyl bibs sold at Toys “R” Us stores under the brands Koala Baby and Especially for Baby may have lead in them. Regulators say the levels are low and safe unless ripped and swallowed, but some safety advocates question why there should be any lead at all. Here’s the story in the New York Times today.

How have you reacted to the Made in China scandal? Are you checking labels more often? Have you thrown out toys? Stopped eating some foods?
