It’s All Relative

As we’re all thinking of family, near and far, this Thanksgiving, I thought I’d share a link to this fabulous blog - Relative Choices: Adoption and the American Family - from the New York Times.
Some really lovely stories, a few of which will make you cry.
I read somewhere that Minnesota is a hub for foreign adoptions, though I guess you don’t have to look too much further than the nearest park to see that.
We haven’t adopted but my husband, with his American-German-Swedish looks, has had well-meaning strangers look enquiringly at his American- German-Swedish-Malaysian-Chinese daughter and ask “Where did you get her?” To which he answered confusedly: “Her mother is Chinese.” Which of course did nothing to clarify the situation. Anyway.
A very happy Thanksgiving to you and your families, in all their various shapes, colors and configurations.
