Closing Time – with a twist…

Chalk yet another one up for “I did not know that.”

Here’s a Twin Cities-pop-music-baby-related piece of trivia for you brought to my attention by my friend Angela. She went to Dan Wilson’s concert recently out in the Seattle area - and learned that Semisonic’s song “Closing Time” is really about getting kicked out of the womb instead of the bar. Almost sounds like one of those urban music myths. But she heard it right from the former Trip Shakespearians mouth.

He told the crowd that band members hate it when lead singers have a baby because they always write song about it. He felt compelled to do the same, but thought he’d try the approach with his band of hiding it in plain sight. He said is basically about his baby being bounced from the womb, with the chorus being sung by the baby.

So read the lyrics again – and you’ll listen to the song in a whole new way.  “Closing Time-This room won’t be open ’til your brothers or your sisters come..”

But this made me stop and try to think of other baby inspired songs. Off the top of my head all I can think of is “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, and that Creed guy’s “With Arms Wide Open” as far as baby related songs.

What are some others?
