Babymooners

2007 is nearing its end and Merriam-Webster held an annual contest for word of the year.
Among the contestants is “babymoon.” The last hurrah, when baby is still as portable as your carry-on, you don’t have to pay extra for a seat, or worry if he’s bugging fellow passengers.
I didn’t know that that was the term for what Peter and I went on before we had Ben, but it fits the bill. We had to get in one last mountain fix before baby. Destination? Breckenridge, Colorado in the summer when I was about 4-5 months pregnant. Got the okay from my doctor that the altitude would be okay. I was a bit melancholy that I could not partake in the hot tubs, alpine slides, or local breweries. However I really really enjoyed, the Belgian waffles at the breakfast bar, the scenery, and the deals. Ski villages are a bargain in the summer months. Our suite was $75 a night as opposed to upwards of $400/night during peak ski times. We also got in on some great summer deals for cold weather gear.
Did you go on a babymoon even if you didn’t call it that? Any recommendations for our readers?
Right now, somewhere tropical sounds pretty good…
