Mommy Loves Disco Too

Now why didn’t I think of this?
I’m sure everyone of us with even a drop of entrepreneurial blood smacks ourselves on the forehead every time yet another season of Baby Loves Disco rolls around. The afternoon dance parties for babies and toddlers started by two Philly moms is in its third year and has Minneapolis firmly on the circuit. Host moms now throw Baby Loves Disco events in 26 US cities, Israel and the UK and Temple University’s business school is rapping on their doors, trying to study their secret formula.
No secret really: Mix some disco favorites, high-energy kids and exhausted parents and there are days when you too will willingly fork over $12 per kid not to have to plan the playdate or cube the cheese.
Today’s Strib profiles some of the tiny dancers who stepped out Saturday afternoon at Bar Fly in downtown Minneapolis. The next one’s on March 22.
Have you been to Baby Loves Disco recently? How did you like it?

I have attended Baby Loves Disco twice, and my daughter loved it. My only reason for not going again, is the extensive drinking by many parents I saw going on. It’s fine these events take place in nightclubs (at 2:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday) - but when you are out for an afternoon with your kids, do you really need to drink alcohol to have a good time?? They should make these soda/juice only, but I’m guessing the nightclubs wouldn’t hold these events if they weren’t making the real money by selling liquor.
Is it $12 per person or do only the kids pay? I have thought it would be fun to go, but $48 seemed like a lot of $$ for something I am not sure how much the kids would enjoy…
We’ve always wanted to go, but the cost has kept us away…
Walking kids pay $12 each and crawlers and parents get in for free. You’re right - it can add up. Hmmm…maybe Cribsheet should host a free dance party…And Heather, that point about booze is very interesting. I don’t remember seeing a lot of that the one time I took Zoe…
