Mother’s Day Guilt?

My husband asked me what I want for Mother’s Day. We’ve had some very sleepless nights in our house lately, and without hesitation I said, “Take the kids away for a night so I can have some peace.”
As soon as I said that, I realized that I was asking for my family TO GO AWAY for Mother’s Day. Now, I don’t really want my family gone ON Mother’s Day, but a nice treat for me as a Mother’s Day gift would be to have the house to myself for an evening and a full night of uninterrupted sleep, which can occur at any time between now and the end of May.
But I feel guilty. It seems like a non-motherly thing to request, especially for Mother’s Day. While we laughed at the seemingly inappropriate Mother’s Day gift request, it got me wondering if I was alone in this request. And alone in my guilt about it. What do you think? Maybe my chronic lack of sleep is messing with my mind.

R, don’t feel guilty - you are not alone! I am so right there with you. We’ve had several sleepless nights in a row. The owly bags beneath my eyes have another set of bags, and those bags have carry-on luggage. Layers of exhaustion. In fact I did a similar post on this very topic last year. A combo of alone time and family time seems to work best for me.
How about you all - what are you asking for (or giving) for Mother’s Day?
