Take a Pill, Dear

A mom in Maryland has created a placebo for kids.

Starting June 1, every time your toddler the hypochondriac complains of mysterious aches and pains, you can pop open a bottle of chewable, cherry-flavored sugar tablets marketed under the name Obecalp (read it backwards…) by Efficacy Brands (!).

After my co-worker Josephine Marcotty pointed out the story in the New York Times, I had to retrieve my jaw from the floor. Granted, I’m someone who avoids medication like the plague until I’m falling over (or in childbirth…same thing), but why would you want to teach a child there’s a pill for every ill?

And what if there’s really something wrong with them?

And how about a hug and kiss instead?
