A couple of event alerts from Cribsheet types:
1) The first Liz Logelin Memorial 5k walk/run is happening this Sunday (Sept. 21) at 1 pm, wherever you happen to be. Matt and friends are hoping that if enough people in enough time zones join in, they’ll pretty much be walking around the world for 24 hours.
A Minneapolis group will start walking at on the western edge of Lake Calhoun near the volleyball courts by 36th street.
Details here and T-shirts here.
2) Guest blogger Sheletta of Mocha Moms is helping organize a fundraiser for a friend with cancer. Here’s the e-mail from Sheletta:
It’ll happen Sunday, Sept. 28 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pi’s Restaurant & Bar in Minneapolis and features heart wrenching speeches from cancer survivors and a workshop by renowned Mayo Clinic hematologist Dr. Timothy G. Call.
Edwina Bruce, one of the event organizers originally planned the event as a fundraiser only for her friend, Bereatha Jasper, who was diagnosed with Sarcoma. Bruce soon realized the event needed a broader message. “She’s a single mother—and the same week she found out she had cancer, she lost her job. As if having cancer isn’t enough—now she has to worry about mounting hospital bills and the fact that she has no income or insurance.”
Bruce says watching her friend handle chemotherapy courageously, and seeing other women go through the same thing, led her to do more. The all-day event is called “Cause for Care” and will include healthcare presentations and early detection tools. Women can come together and share their experiences and encourage one another.
“These politicians are talking about helping the uninsured,” Bruce noted, “but my friend is living through this crisis.” For more information, go to Cause for Care.
