Big Bowl

Before marriage, my parents bowled together on group dates. I remember my father’s gold-plated trophies crowded on a shelf in our home growing up.

Bowling is so quaint, so wholesome…it only seems fitting that we’d now be doing it with our kids.

When our friend Sherry suggested a bowling party, we jumped. How could we refuse the chance to, as she so enticingly put it, wear shoes that thousands before us had worn??

So there we were, shortly after New Year’s, six families, spread over three lanes, at Flaherty’s in St. Paul.

We had a blast. Beer, pizza and minimal physical effort. And after the smoking ban, blessedly smoke-free air. What more can one ask for in indoor family fun when it’s subzero outside?

They even had lane bumpers for the kids. No wonder Zoe beat me. (That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.)

Here’s proof the kids had fun too.

Do you take the little ones bowling? Where?
