Flat Stanley

Once again asking advice of our Cribsheeters. I recently recieved a “Flat Stanley” in the mail from my niece, Grace, in Illinois. I am in need of a plan B. My first thought was to take him to the Walker Sculpture Garden for a classic Spoonbridge and Cherry shot. But alas, that’s temporarily just “Spoonbridge.” Not as much fun without the cherry on top.
Where should I take him around here? Where have you taken a Flat Stanley?
I need inspiration!

Whenever we have visitors, my mom *always* thinks they need to see Minnehaha falls. And of course, who comes to the Twin Cities and doesn’t visit the abomination known as the Mall of America? Flat Stanley could have a great time riding rides (do you need tickets for him?) and playing in LegoLand. Great photo ops and souveneirs, too!

(I’ve never heard of Flat Stanley before, but this is great! I want my kids to have a Flat Stanley!)

How about the state capitol? Or the MOA?

What about one of the big Snoopy/Peanut characters - aren’t there still some of those around town? Of course, I cannot think of a location with one now …

I’m not much help since I took him (actually it was a flat version of the child) to Spoonbridge and Cherry!

If he/she is a baseball fan you could take Stanley to the dome. That was another idea for ours (the flatty itself was wearing a Yankees shirt…).

Is he from somewhere warm? How about an outdoor ice rink?

I’m home sick today. I’ll think about it as I hallucinate…

I’d get creative and just take pictures of the flat stanley in your home and then photoshop him into different environments. We’ve received a couple flat stanleys (great book, by the way) and have done this. They have been to Disney World, an African Safari and even the moon without me even leaving the house! The teachers were really impressed too. One even thought the pics were real until she came to the moon one.

Flat Stanley would love the Stone Arch Bridge, the Como Conservatory, the North St. Paul Snowman, the Mary Tyler Moore statue downtown, the Cathedral, the Basilica and the governor’s mansion. And none of those places would cost Flat Stanley a thin dime. (Well, maybe you could throw in a few bucks at the conservatory.)

Flat Stanley should also try on ice skates. And if he had arrived earlier, he could have gone ice fishing.

There are some pretty cool bronze Peanuts statues at Rice Park in St. Paul.

I had a Flat Stanley once from my cousin. He came while I was traveling a lot for work, so he went to Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and NYC, as well as Minneapolis, before returning to Texas. She was pretty stoked. But I like the idea of the Como Conservatory here, and the Mary Tyler Moore statue. He could go to the MOA and just pose if you don’t want to buy ride tickets.

I heard on the radio the other day that there was a Flat Stanley on the plane that went down in the Hudson. He wrote back to the kid about it.

Don’t do that.
